  1. Cheers diff lock I think you have got it, I will price up both and try to get some facts of the dealers.
  2. don't even try to compare the land rover to the land cruiser the land rover just doesn't come close.
  3. Two men in a pickup, no need to take big truck or chipper just clear the obstruction and leave the rubbish there, tools can be kept at home so no need to go to the yard. £250 an hour min 2 hours, have actually done this on more than one occasion, Called out 11 in the morning, wife was cooking I was doing sod all, shot out and cleared road of small dead hawthorn then back in doors before dinner was even half way done, send in invoice for £600 sit back down crack open beer grin at the telly thinking about what you are going to spend your money on......everyone's a winner. Even had one once not Christmas all the lads had been drinking same as me wife had to drive truck I went along for the ride found the tree dragged it out of the way with a rope on the pickup didn't even start a saw up, got home thought of a price sent in the invoice and no staff to pay, as the wife does it just for love, I have been to a call out we're there were two council trucks and four bods parked behind obstruction all flashing lights going to keep Jo public safe I had a quick chat and then walked up to the branch in the road picked it up and carried it off into the undergrowth it took about three minutes total and the council guys had been sat there for over an hour waiting for us to turn up.
  4. Machine will be used in Australia, the fuel is different over there every thing comes straight out of the pump no tax incentive on your red diesel, when I tell the ozzy lads about red diesel they can't get there head around the concept at all. Diesel and petrol are a very similar price at the pump.
  5. Sorry but I don't agree with either of you, I have owned many mainstream grinders and never brought spares from the dealers, New bearings come from a bearing stockist, belts from a belt suppliers and all things like hoses and fittings you can get anywhere. I replaced a whole engine on a grinder and I didn't buy that from the dealer either. I just wondered if the Germans had got it right when I think the yanks sometimes have got it wrong on some of the machines I've owned. Cheers Russ.
  6. Anybody got one of the JBM machines from Germany just had a look, they seem to have approached things a bit differently.
  7. Ok, we have to forget red diesel it doesn't exist in my world, So let's say I want to buy a 35 hp stumpgrinder what will be cheaper to run a petrol machine or a diesel one, does the diesel plod along and use less fuel, and is the petrol screaming its guts out or would they use about the same as they are both 35 hp . Would the diesel machine have more grunt or exactly the same as the petrol. My head hurts just thinking about this..
  8. Truck looks good, but get some catches on the doors for when you tip off or you will end up bending them. Ask me how I know.
  9. Forget the 7.5 ton and go for a 11 or a 13 ton same size wheel base fit in the same driveways but Carry 3 times as much very similar running costs. I have owned two 7.5 toners and one 13 the 13 you can just keep filling and never worry about being overloaded. Operators licence is easy to get and easy to comply with,I cannot understand the mindset over here about using a transit for tree work bloody use less,go straight out and get that truck.
  10. Mate of mine took there transit into the local green waste yard to tip, the girl gave him the weigh ticket it was 6500 kg is this a record? I will try to get a pic up of the ticket!!
  11. Take all your own climbing gear and a saw. Get a car sorted. Open the yellow pages make some phone calls. Start work. Easy as that. Been over on the Gold Coast for seven years. If your any good you will be busy if you are just starting out you had better get used to doing palms. As the average tree over there make the trees over here look very small. If you want to head to the Gold Coast let me know I have a few contacts.
  12. Always had a couple of sets of straights on my machines but I suppose it depends on make of machine and pattern of teeth layout on the wheel.
  13. If you are going to hire it out buy a bandit .and if your in the hire buisness why a second hand one, talk to your accountant a new one makes more financial sense.
  14. Copy the standard figment for your machine.IE the same as we're the finger teeth were.
  15. cheers for the input, now my next worry how do you think they compare in size to a nissan navara i have owned both and am just a bit unsure about trying to get it in tesco's when the wife makes me do the shopping
  16. anybody here run one i had one a year ago in oz but sold it and find myself having withdrawl symptoms,i am worried about the mpg how do you think they would compare to 110LR-Nissan Navara-Izuzu-Hilux cheers Russ
