Dan before you spend any more money changing bits you need to beg steal or borrow a hydraulic flow/pressure meter. Piped in line on the ram you are referring to will tell you the line pressure in that circuit along with the flow rate, eg. for arguments sake if the ram comes under load and stops but still shows flow and pressure through the meter it would indicate the seals are shot in the ram. If the flow stops it will then show X amount of pressure in that circuit. Just takes all the guess work out of this sort of thing. Bob

Bought some of that Ferrex cordless gear from Aldi to stop the lads on landscape from taking my dewalt gear from the workshop out on site , bit of a confession here and have to admit its actually pretty good. Its a 20v/40v system where the 20v gear can be used with the 40v batteries I have used the drill, screwdriver rattle gun and grinder, I also thought I would try the 40v chainsaw as they only need it to cut up the occasional sleepers and fence posts. The 20v/40v 5amph batteries last forever on the 20v drills and grinders, in the saw they also last as long as the batteries on my stihl battery saw that I keep in the machines. We used to Chris but the return for handling it is poor when you consider the time, labour,machinery and yard space involved. If we bring in contract climbers we tend to go for teams, I prefer a climber to come with his/her own groundie and kit. Climbers/groundstaff are far more productive if they gel, £350 a day for a decent climber, groundie and all their own kit is not out of the way around here. Bob

The 500i engine was trialled in concrete saws before it was used in a chainsaw. Chatting to one of the lads in HB`s the other day about the 500i, he reckons they have sold quite a few and there have been no reliability issues, being ex job he still gets to use one on occasion and reckons they are a very nice saw. Anyone here ran one long enough to pass comment ? Bob

You could always trim the wall back two feet both sides of the tree and get some railings made to bridge the gap. If the railings transoms were incorporated into the brickwork it would add some rigidity , if they were brought to the face side of the wall that would give the tree another 9" of movement. Tree looks like it could do with losing a bit of weight roadside though. Bob

There are only really two choices with rhody. Get a decent slew with a power rake, grub the lot out and burn all arisings , cheapest way is mulch the lot and spray off the regen. Bob Or mulch and spray off regen

Al your circled gizmo looks like a sender unit for a leccy oil pressure gauge , if it was mine I would forget about the dipstick for now. Just drain it of oil and refill with a couple of gallons of fresh oil just to get it running. Bob

At a guess I would say the spare brass terminal on ignition switch is an earth 592 × 353 592 × 353

Its no problem knocking up a new wheel, I have an old clunker of a lathe and mill so it wont cost more than about £30 for a decent blank and a few hours of an evening to spin one up . I just need to find something I can measure and copy. Bob

It gets used a lot and has not missed a beat, teeth are ok but the bolts supplied break quite often so I have upgraded them. I bought a load of spare teeth but as soon as they are gone I will redrill the wheel to take greenteeth. Bob
