  1. I thought that three times the tractor weight was the max as a rule. So three ton tractor and a nine ton trailer ish . Bob
  2. 15,000 hours without a spanner on the engine says it is And thats mulching hours, Bob
  3. I dont see why not we have , if its good enough for a sixpot perkins phaser turbo diesel tractor that runs flat all day it must be ok for a 300tdi. We have used Rye oils equivalent to Castrol MP plus in just about everything including the small stuff like stump grinders. Bob
  4. A mate has got an Alaskan mill and came over to buzz some oak down that wont fit in the woodmizer. Impressive piece if kit Bob Vid [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kolfZu7ztB8]Gary on the Alaskan mill - YouTube[/ame] http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=170626&stc=1&d=1417464036
  5. For a low hp tractor with a 2mt cut you are better off with the swing hammer mulcher if you inexperienced. A fixed hammer mulcher will take to prisoners and if you hit a stump, piles of concrete, old tyres and general rubbish it will be around the drum in a flash and you will be a while tugging it all out. A swing hammer will just deflect back, downside is the hours spent turning and sharpening them the flails. Fixed hammer is better for turning the mulch into the ground. 20k plus seems a lot for something thats needed once a week, why not hire both types of machine in on some of your work and see which one suits. Bob
  6. I am surprised the Monopolies commission or the CMA as they are now known have not had a peek at this. I am pretty sure there is a profit in chip if Stobart are involved, they just dont choose to share it about. Bob
  7. Probably right:) Its worth remembering that when buying a small lump of land that it is a lot easier to get sheds etc put up if you are 12 acres or more, you only need to submit the 28 day notice for any ag buildings and its down to the local planning authority to prove you dont need them if they want to object or refuse. Smaller lumps of land need proper applications put in for anything which can end up a complete ballache. Bobb
  8. A friend of mine got 12 acres of land off a farmer that backed onto a load of houses, he then bought the first house that came onto the market that backed onto his field and kicked the fence down. Instant farm. Bob
  9. Hammerchewers the lot of you This guy turned up today and wanted some logwood so I thought he best have a few sticks of conifer:biggrin: Do you think its a nice even load? And he had some of the log goblins gear on the way out.
  10. If you are serious about mulching you will need to guard the thing up. It can be quite brutal on the kit in deep lop and top with sticks trying to stab at just about everything. You will also have to consider junking the ag tyres for proper forestry ones. Also turn the wheel offsets in for minimum width . Bob
  11. Can you imagine asking one for a plate of chips Anyway there cant be many of them about because none of them have chimed in . Bob
  12. Well they are still out there loading this crud into their cars/trucks and trailers. They have shifted tons of it today despite the heavy rain and F1 being on ( Heathens). Down to the last few tons now Bob
  13. Spotted a log goblin in daylight, fifty odd pallet loads gone with about another hundred or so to go.
  14. What about our one Rhys, one careful owner and all that Bob
  15. I cant see what the fuss is about, filling in a tacho takes seconds. Keeping them with you for the last 28 days is not really a hardship. If the dvla and vosa wanted to give small industry a boost all they needed to do was extend the pathetic exemptions that apply to 3.5t gvw trucks to 7.5t, if they were harassed enough they probably would. Bob
  16. From what I can make out the only difference between fb and fd is in the levels of detergent , there appears to be no difference in the lubrication qualities. JASO Oil Specifications - oilspecifications.org Bob
  17. Well this old tosh is going well, I put out this lot today and it was gone in an hour so I put out the same again, that too had gone by tonight. Thats 9 pallets of logs gone in two days and I have only lost three of the pallets. I stuck the bargain basement moisture meter from aldi`s in a a bit and it read about 35 pc. Bob
  18. :laugh1::laugh1: I have lost one already. Bob
  19. The log Goblins are prowling. There is about 100ton of bogging wet rubbish rings of wood stacked in the corner of the yard which is mainly conifer, willow and chestnut. I wanted this gone so I started to stack it out by the gate on a pallet with a free sign next to it. I have never seen anyone taking it but five pallet loads have gone in two days. Bob
  20. Much truth in here, we helped another contractor with this tree and he used his little 1.5 tonner with a grapple to clear it all up on his own. He is 70 years old. Bob
  21. Breathing any exhaust fumes are bad for your health. What we really need is a cure for those suffering from cognitive dissonance. Bob
  22. There is a green waste station in Titnor Lane, Worthing . The Guy took shed loads of arb chip off us in exchange for logwood. Eurogreen 01903 906155 Bob
  23. I think the 4x4 tipper makes sense, get your trailer license , fit a tacho and you have a legal 7 ton gross work truck. Ticks plenty of boxes from where I am sitting. Bob
  24. All the diesel delivered now is low sulphur and has been for a year or two, it has to be because of all the new fly by wire modern tractors and plant. As Dean says it is missing the odd bits and pieces individual fuel suppliers blend in for a performance or emissions advantage. As for tracing red in white I think its all a load of bull. I had an old tipper truck which was used on the farm here as a dumper for about five years which was not road going so I ran it on red , someone wanted to buy it so I got it tested , it was low on fuel so on the way to the test I filled it with white diesel. on entering the industrial estate C+E were there dipping and I was dipped. There must have been a gallon of red in twenty of white and I was told it was fine so sent on my way. They may well be able to detect a trace but as others have said about cross contamination on delivering the fuel it would need to be over a certain percentage to be a problem. As for Red usage, its ok in any tractor or agricultural machine for the purpose of agriculture, forestry or horticulture with no mileage limitations or restrictions. I have posted this before worth a read. Dissecting red diesel rules - 10/02/2014 - Farmers Weekly Bob
  25. If you are going down this slippery path dont forget the barn doors, what the eyes dont see and all that. Bob
