  1. my mate works in a scrapyard, they've got a cheque cashing office on site as well, easy way to increase the company profits- buy a hundred quids worth of metal with a piece of paper covered in numbers, then buy that piece of paper back for £95, not bad business when your buying thousands of tonnes a month. they still pay cash for cars, I suppose theres no law saying you cant buy a car then 30 seconds later throw it up in the air with a grab iv been going to the same scrapyard for about 5 years and they've always asked for id, but if you didn't have any that box on your receipt would just say none given, instead of driving licence/passport.
  2. 4 to 5 hundred miles a week in my 127 200tdi, a few weeks ago I did Hertfordshire to the peak district, 20 mile bike ride, then 20 miles of greenlining, then back home in a 12 hour period no problem(about a 350 mile drive) driven it to Scotland twice, once towing a boat, good fun. earlier in the year we were working in London, about an hours drive from our meeting car park, 3 times we went in my mates e reg, standard seated 90, no problems, 1 time we went in our bosses audi a6, when we arrived in that my back, legs and shoulders ached!
  3. thanks for the comments, now in the hands of the insurance company, at least as it was unmodified and he only got it 6 months ago he should get a realistic pay out....
  4. :thumbdown:it had a clutch lock, alarm and immobilise, we think it must have been targeted as they did it so quick:thumbdown: its been shared by at least 20 people on facebook now, in the last week amongst me and 2 mates with defenders we have acquired 2 tracking devices, 2 cut off switches and a removable steering wheel!
  5. we dug out a stump about 2 foot wider than that a couple of years ago, half a day digging a 4 foot deep trench all around it with a 1.5ton mini digger half a day digging trenches underneath it then a high lift jack under a stump of a root to lift it up and break the suction of the soil and up it popped:thumbup: I then had to split it in 2 with an044 and wedges to lighten it enough for the digger to be able to lift:001_cool:
  6. a mate of mine had his td5 90 hard top stolen from outside his house in hertford last night, its an oslo blue county spec, just been waxoiled, general grabber at2s and boost alloy wheels, reg no: av 03 kyh he only got it 6 months ago after months of searching for a mint one and hes absolutely gutted: thumbdown: if anyone sees it or has any information please pm me on here, thanks, William.
  7. a mate of mine has a 2003 ramsey 8000lb hydraulic winch(no winch wire though), control block, tank and pto pump for a defender he might want to sell, any idea on what its roughly worth? its ex electric board for the first year of its life and has done no work at all for the last 8 years, it does all work though, thanks, William.
  8. I had a 306 gti for a while, one day I was going down a country lane and a muntjack stepped out in front of me, after years of driving a hilux with bullbars and various landrovers with winches my first thought was that deers had it! then I remembered I was in the car not the truck.... luckily it had good brakes.
  9. G reg127 200 tdi tipper for everything for me, done about 3800 miles in 8 weeks, 650miles in the last 6 days, just need to get it on some better quality mud tyres (BFG or cooper stt) and add a bit more power for 70mph cruising, instead of the current 65. if I could only ever have 1 vehicle it would be this one.
  10. I do about 2 or 3 days a month for a friend of mine and his boss doing generator installation and acoustic hood installation, we get brought all our meals while working, car parking, hotel rooms when required, 2 course dinner and a couple of beers if in a hotel, our boss has rebuilt an engine each for me and my mate, we can use his workshop, spare materials and tools pretty much anytime, last Christmas we all went clay pigeon shooting and we get paid a full days money if we work more than 3 hours. in return we try and work as hard as we can, and quite often do 12 or more hours a day, and will travel a round trip of 4 or 5 hours a day if required. all together a pretty good deal for both sides.
  11. Ill try and get one up this evening, im not too good at that sort of thing tho!
  12. Not quite sure where to post this but I have put my 2003 td5 110 on ebay if anyone is interested, its a blue 2003 van, with no mot and needing maybe a days work on it, im only realy selling it as I will be losing its parking space soon. The opening price is £1250, thanks William.
  13. Lindsey porter in land rover monthly did a feature on his atlas tipper with all the extras, it had ramps, mesh high side s a winch and a tarp that went over the high sides, looked really smart and I think its quite a bit cheaper than an ifor.
  14. Nene overland have started putting in the 3litre ranger wildtrak engine in defenders, wouldn't mind one of them!
  15. Iv got 200tdi and a td5 and I belive you about the merits of the 3.9v8! Td5 and v8 fuel consumption arnt all that far apart and the v8s got aleast another 60hp. A td5 running at 180hp is a nice idea though:thumbup1:
  16. Iv had 3 or 4 170s with no problems, usually take 2 on jobs just in case/so I don't have to sharpen 1 halfway through the day. Going out to log up an 8-10 inch oak limb for a customer with them this morning.
  17. Nice little set up, how many spool valves do you need for a crane trailer like that?
  18. Just tugged it out with the 127, nice long strop to keep the truck out the wet bit, couple of pulls and out it came:thumbup1:
  19. I took the 35 topping the other day and had a small problem:001_rolleyes:
  20. Yes its a 35, I didn't exactly "choose" the 3060, it just came along at a price for which I can either use it or easily sell it on for a profit:thumbup1: we will have to wait and see how we get on!
  21. Thats good to know, but will it be as good as its older cousin?
  22. Just got this nice and cheap, picked it up this morning, haven't really used it yet though
  23. I think iv only used a bowsaw about 5 times in the 10 years since being shown silky saws at college! The last time was to get rid of an elder about 6inch es across and 10 foot high on a fencing job, only used the bowsaw as the hardware shop down the road was selling them for a fiver, cheaper than going to the yard for a chainsaw/silky!
  24. Not on a good one with helper springs, been picking up full legal loads and driving them about 10miles every day for the past 3 weeks in mine, no problem at al. Got another 15 tonnes to do this week. Having said tgat if you dont need (want?) To take it offroad its probably quite low down the list of tipper choices.
  25. Very nice, drive past your truck most days(iv got the multi coloured 127 tipper and before that I had a blue 110 van with winch and beacon on the roof). Are the hydralics for the snow plough or something eelse?
