  2. As long as you get to pocket your 80%. Once you have given a cut to the bank, suppliers, labour costs, the tax man, Esso, and fixing the stuff you broke, you will probably walk away with less than the gardener. Ohhhh, pass me the asprin.
  3. This It can be hard to spot a numpty till after the event!
  4. How very rude! I will have you know I dabbled with a Blake's hitch this very week.
  5. Yeah, yeah, OK. I admit to climbing with a tuning screwdriver But I also climb with a smile:001_smile:
  6. I have to admit to never using a 201. I have used a 150t, that was ok (in a silky saw kindof way) but you do feel a little Emasculated . I really wanted to like the 540 (after all, my employer provides them for free) but I just don't enjoy using them - maybe I have a lemon (oh wait, three lemons). Anyway, I dug out the best of the knackered 200s that I amassed when I was self employed and rebuilt it to factory fresh..... oh happy days! (The TR6 is growing on me though, well....just a little!)
  7. What? more gutless than the most gutless top handle I have ever used. We have 3 '540's languishing in the back of the pickup, that never get used due to the '200t's that we keep up and running...... how bad must a 201 be!! 540, sad face. 200t, happy face.
  8. No need for apologies. Your satirical reply to the deleted post on this thread was a bit thought provoking - I pondered the pointlessness of everything for an entire dog walk in the moonlight. On reading the other thread, it seemed like attempting to raise your kids safely is probably the only thing that really worth doing with your life. Using your quote seemed at good way of making this point, but in hindsight is was a bit lame. I can see why leaving your name on it caused you offence - it wasn't meant to be petty point scoring, but I agree it comes over that way. I do indeed suffer with a lifelong character flaw, in that I really struggle to grow up. On a positive note, It was far worse when I was younger. Anyway, this has all got too confusing now, so i'm going to take the advise of a certaing 1980's kids tv show and... Cheers
  9. Hi Joe. Andy Perkins first comment was post 17, but it got deleted. Now it’s gone, the second Ty Korrigan post looks like a rather strange comment! Dunno why it was deleted, maybe because he swore!
  10. Well, on balance, I think you have done ok. 44 posts on your thread, only two of them criticised, and one of THEM got deleted If somone produced a tree like that on a 'Cs40' training or assessment, I would be perfectly happy with it. It is indeed tree shaped! My point really was more to do with the fact that the majority of amenity arb is pointless, but there is a view often touted around theese parts that a bit of tree surgery is the most important thing in the world. Cheers.
  11. I think all the old lady was after was a bit of reassurance that her tree was not about to fall down on top of her or her neighbours. I see nothing in the origional post to suggest she was not perfectly happy with the tree untill the door-to-door tree cutters turned up.
  12. Glad you noticed he asked for criticism. Not much point making any though, as the criticism got edited out. I think the point is that there are many 'pointless' things that people do, but most of them don't involve seperating an 'old lady' from her cash. Personally, if I may be so bold, I would have told her to save her cash as nuffin really needs doing to the stupid tree.
  13. Congrats fella... All of a sudden statements like this: Will make no sense at all. Enjoy and treasure your new journey with your son and good lady. Its the most worthwhile thing a human can do!
  14. I was thinking something like one of those little mesh guards to stop the local yoofs throwing stones at the bulb of a security light!
  15. ahhh yes I guess lightning would make more sense (I'm a bit slow this morning )
  16. +1 or as they say these days, "word"
  17. Never heard of lighting protection, what is it
  18. Proper, working plummer terrier. Built to murder rats, and designed by a Welshman:thumbup1:
  19. Do you give your saws names? If so, I guess this one isn't called lucky!
  20. Full chisel, all the way and on everything. If you need to use semi, you should be in florestry, not forestry. FC is loads eaiser to (properly) sharpen as it has an easily idenifiable working corner that can simply be honed to perfection. - semi seems 'more forgiving' to sharpen because if you do a crap sharpening job, its only mildly crapper than it is should you do a good job. Regarding the final cuts in unclean wood, use a knackered chain, or even better, use a shorter bar and chain and work your way around the stem (as in the forestry felling photo thread).
  21. But what if the new employee is say, more proficient at deploying ladders and setting out fences etc, but turns out to be lousy at labouring because it is 'below' him, or he is a puny little weed? What if, instead of dragging brash, he gazes at his phone all day, facebookin' and instgramin', pretending not to notice the ever increasing pile of mess? Who ends up draggin then? Don't underestimate the benefits of a grafter!
  22. That's an excellent fact. I am interested though, in the source of this information. By my reckoning, since 1974 (random date ) the population: Lives longer. Has better general health. Is more affluent. Am I missing something here?
  23. As an employer, you have a duty to provide whatever information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of your employees. (The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974) The problem is that although you can 'outsource' things like training, you can't outsource supervision. Unfortunately, if you have set him to work doing things that you don't really trust to do without injuring himself or others, it is hard to argue that he is under a suitable level of supervision. For this reason, all the training in the world may not improve you situation with him that much. If you want him to do more skilled things - he is going to require more supervision (so you may as well just do the thing yourself in the first place). Are you in a position where you business could support a third (more skilled) employee?
