  1. I think you can (and if you can't work out how, you are very short of cunning)
  2. Hi Kevin. I haver never seen on either in use, or in any regulatory documentation. I can feel a little research coming on. TBH I stop for lollypop ladies (and gents)..... I am not sure I would take that much notice of that! Maybe it depends who is holding it:sneaky2:
  3. Type "stop go board" in google Got this Metal Stop / Go Board » Product £60 - not bad for a first attempt
  4. Download free copy here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/safety-at-street-works-and-road-works And check out page 98 (I think)
  5. Check out the streetworks 'red book' (2014 version) and you will see that this in no way meets the requirements. You may as well just chalk 'Would you please be a sweetie and stop for the nice tree cutter' on a sandwich board.
  6. Each of the links will take you to a page of the NPTC website that has a description of the award, and a load more links. Some of these links are background theory and training, but the link that ends in (IND) 0714 (generally the bottom one) is the actual assessment document that you are assessed against. Best of luck!
  7. Frank, if you are interested in seeing the content of the assessments, tap on the red hyperlinks in the quote below.... I put it together for some American / Canadian fella. I thought it was quite good - I guess he wasn't that impressed as he didn't even bother to acknowledge the post Still, cant remain bitter
  8. Sorry Frank.... ahemmm bit of an aerial rescue derail there.
  9. Best system is to not have an accident
  10. That will be why I used the expression competent rather than qualified then!
  11. Forget the 'contract climber' rubbish. You should have a competent climber, and a competent groundsman capable of performing aerial rescue. Just as you should drive at no more than 30 mph in a 30!
  12. It's also a legal requirement to have a safe worplace (health and safety at work etc act) And a requirement to identify hazards and implement suitable controls (managemet regs)
  13. Nope, legal requirement under work at height regs.
  14. TVI's charcoal? it's really an art! ('though the leather gear makes it quite tricky.) this thread, he sure hopes, will be just like Jon's phone and end up becoming a sticky.
  15. ... told the coxswain's boat, "Now don't be blue but i'm buying an old church canoe. see, the Vicar's is quicker, thicker and slicker and 5 inches longer than you".
  16. Hi Mr Dude. One option is for you to joint the ever expanding UK 'redneck' tree lopping fraternity.... ....and a think we may have seen a taste of that side of the industry earlier in this thread. If you want to do the job in a professional manner, you are going to need to collect a few bits of paper. The UK chainsaw competence system consists of training, and then assessment. Anyone can supply you training (within reason)- the biggest player in the UK is 'Lantra', but the assessment can either be undertaken by 'city and guilds' or 'Lantra'. Between the two organisations, the assessments are identical and interchangeable (you can do some with Lantra, and interchange with city and guilds, but most people use city and guilds for historical reasons..... shop around, get the best price). Once, the assessments had nice easy names like CS30 CS31, CS38 and CS39, but they have now given them stupid long names and indecipherable long numbers, sorry) For basic tree work you will need: Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting (was CS30) https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=333 Felling small trees (CS31) https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=334 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (CS38) https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=337 https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=356 Chainsaw from rope and harness (CS39) https://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemedetail.aspx?id=350 A link to the Lantra equivalents is here... http://www.lantra-awards.co.uk/Downloads/Training-and-Qualifications/Forest-and-Arboriculture-(duration-etc).aspx I am not too sure who will be your nearest assessment center, these are not a million miles away Tree Surgery Training Sussex & Kent | Chainsaw Training Courses Sussex & Kent | Approved by Lantra & NPTC Tree Surgeon Training - Kingswood Training Services - Kingswood Training Services other than that buddy, I don't know nuffin..... yeeehar and saddle me up a greased pig.
  17. He has got be be a 'hoarder'. Just check out Cessna's vid on Euro wood stacking types: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/81859-educating-some-customers-how-light-fire-3.html#post1219104 ('course, maybe wrong...... I did watch it with the sound turned down, and I don't speak French )
  18. Nice reduction there, well done.
  19. Why? do you think he is using this commercially? Surely this is for his own private use. I think you will find that the HSE doesn't give a kippers dick for what people get upto in their 'own time'
  20. Forget posting on here, what about posting the details on here.... Contact the Myth Busting Challenge Panel and go for a far wider audience! Could you imagine the shame of having you work blasted and slated by the HSE themselves Go on diff, DO IT! I have made the offer before, and I will do it again. "If you don't want to deal with the HSE yourself, PM me the details, and I will enter it onto the panel - free of charge" Go on, go on, go on
  21. Christ, your health and safety buddy isn't called 'Norm' is he? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/76443-has-world-gone-crazy-5.html#post1145098 Ask him a trick question about ballpoint pens and try and catch him out! I gotta say, Diff, what with your brainless health and safety man, and your clueless crane driver mate, you do seem to attract some fruit loops. Is anyone you work with normal
  22. Apply for lower tier license in the link below. https://www.gov.uk/waste-carrier-or-broker-registration. If you only carry 'your own' waste, and it is logs, brash and chip, it is all you need (and it costs £0.00, which is not a bad price). Carry a bit of rubbish (like a fence panel you just broke) and it will not be adequate though! PS: DON'T ring the council!
  23. That's the spirit.
  24. I assumed nuffin
  25. haha. Evening Kevin. You don't think he would tell A and E that he injured himself logging in the garden whilst using an electric chainsaw he just got from B and Q?
