1. looking to repaint all three vehicles (2 need tidying anyway), two are white, but different shades and one is faded red. As I've always liked old landie grey and also saw a grey vito that looked good I'm thinking of a full change in company colours. Dark grey vehicles, chipper and polo shirts. Anyone out there suggest a good colour? Also does anyone have an idea of cost for a transit cab respray? Have been quoted £600 !
2. have to agree with combined tree services, love landies, always have but my transit has a big tool store, carries a bulk load and 3 people dont have to be in a relationship to sit in it!! Also zero internal stowage space. But..... they do look the part.........
3. I am on my 4th tranny (sounds just wrong!) and no.1 didnt rust, 1986 single wheel petrol, no rust at all. no. 2 88 twin wheeler, total rust bucket no. 3 2000 single wheeler, rust bucket no. 4 06 twin wheeler needed lots of welding under door step, behind cab and rotten wings! next time round its Iveco. Was told once that the vin plate tells you where manufactured and to only buy the German made one, but dont know if this is true!!
4. I know it sounds mad but try Pickfords . A couple of years back I had a Danequip stump grinder moved from west country to Leeds for the princley sum of £38! they said i would have to wait until the next delivery to my area (8 days) and it would only drop at a commercial premises.
5. Had one for quite a few years, excellent, just know its limitations. Paid about £1400, 8yrs ago, needed to take out 30 conifers on a huge rock garden with no access so chose this one. The biggest problem is lack of weight (only bought it for lightness!!) so it tends to walk backwards whilst grinding. We have other bigger machines, Danequip and Vermeer sc252, but this one is very useful. KEEP IT SHARP:thumbup:

7. Can anyone give me advice re where to get a tool locker from? I'm looking for one to go behind the cab, fixed to the chassis, in front of the tipper on a transit. Ideally in my area (Leeds) and not too expensive, had a price 2 years ago for my existing transit of £2000 !!!, so built my own. Replacement vehicle now so need a decent box, full width, cab height and about 20" ish wide. Maybe someone out there has a secondhand one?
8. Hi I am filling in an insurance proposal form and am stuck on the replacement value of some kit. Have looked on internet but no one puts prices on. Need replacement, new, cost for; vermeer sc252 or current equivalent Dosko 25hp self propelled (now 691) Timberwolf TW18/100g approx prices will help thanks
9. cornish wood burner, really good idea. will check out wheels on monday and see if I can fudge a puller. cheers
10. Hi can anyone give me advice on removing the wheels from my self propelled dosco grinder. Its quite old and the wheels have never been off. They are keyed and have a circlip on the end of the axles. We took the circlips off and soaked the ends in oil, lots of hammering and swearing latter and nothing!!! we put blocks of wood behind the wheels and used car jacks, blow torch and lump hammers but still nothing (unless you count misshaped wheels!). Maybe real heat?
11. driving a 2b, been there, old perkins diesel really b####y noisy and gear change like stiring wallpaper paste. 'like a box of chocolates, you never know what (gear) your going to get'
12. Used an entec cyclone unit years ago and it worked well, maybe a secondhand one? there must be plenty about. To be honest we just chip into a bag hung from road pins, some clearing up but..
13. just a small point regarding single wheeler transits. I have both twin and single wheeler. The gross weight on the singles are only 3100kg The single wheeler with alloy dropside carries more than the twin with toolstore and tipper body. Legally we can only carry 2 bags of sugar on the twin!!!!!!!
14. yep, its a danarm 171ss. I,m still using one in a 18" planking mill. 1971 and still happy, put new crankshaft oil seals in recently and a carb rebuild.
15. about 25yrs ago I parked next to a small van at a forestry show that was sign written; Tim Burr, Forestry
16. Cheers Rover. Thats exactly how I feel but needed to know what others thought
17. I know this will be a normal practice for some and a no no for others but; We have recently begun stump grinding for other people (only done our own till this year) and am picking up plenty of work, doing stumps for many landscapers, property developers and several tree surgeons. I usually have a cheaper rate for contractors and a higher rate for private customers and its working fine. We price the job, do the work and bill the contractor. They then charge their customer accordingly, all is well. I have one contractor who is happy to pass the work on to me but wants a 'good fee', I have been running my own company for 20yrs and havnt been asked for a fee before although have gratefully passed on 'a drink' for lads giving out my number. I will be told by many to wake up and realise that this is how business works! comments please:confused1:
18. Probably hit the nail on the head with tyre size! Had a Landrover on 9 x 16s years ago, when I put 7.50x16s on it was a different beast
19. PIT was a miss spelling!!!!! meant to type ply. I have used phenolic ply fpr years on trailers and tipper beds with no probs. Figure there must be a reason why tipper manufacturers use it all the time. Will go ahead and put bearers in at 17"
20. I have started a build on my transit. Steel frame bed and corners to chip box with ali planking as sides. My previous tipper was built on the top of the tipping mechanism, resulting in a high bed, so the plan with this one is to incorperate the tippling frame into the bed floor. (think this makes sense!) I have been quoted for the alli planking from service metals, bugger, 2.6 metre sides and tailgate only is going to come in at about £700. Still really fed up with ply sides! My question is; Can anyone advise on the spacings apart of the floor supports? Need to find a happy medium between weight and strength. Using phenolic plt on floor. cheers
21. doesnt need to be over 3.5t! My landrover with 9m cherrypicker comes in at about 3t and is exempt. Spoke to vosa and dvla and sent all details off to them.
22.

are you still looking for a picker in Leeds?

Matt

23. may be wrong (usually am!) but it looks a lot like something Ive seen on a military base for winching gliders up / balloons down,
24.

how much do you want for those jacks and where are you?

cheers
