  4. Its time to replace the 'greedy boards' on my transit, looking for advice. Usually I have used 8x4 sheets of 18mm ply but I have come across another product that looks a better bet. Ecosheets, recycled plastic sheets distributed nationwide from Animal Arks Got some samples with an idea to use it for the base of a green roof project on a latge cycle store. sheets cut with circular saw or handsaw and can be screwed together. ??
  5. TGB how the hell did you find that post? Definitely Oregon chain, marked on side as Oregon and in Oregon boxes, not Stihl (everything else I run is Stihl) 23 on drive link, 25 on depth. need to buy some calipers/ vernier gauge! Also anyone offer suggestions as to cheapest ripping chain for 088? cheers
  6. thanks guys they are Oregon (sorry didn't say) 3/8ths 72 link and probably were meant for 056 stihl. My question was; did anyone know what the 23 refered to as other Oregon chains have 25 on the drive link. I thought it would be a simple case of looking on the Oregon site but they don't mention 23. someone out there will advise me!
  7. I have two old boxes with Oregon chain loops in. The chains are micro chisel, 72 links but they have 23 on the drive links! what pitch is this? I believe its 3/8ths but cant find 23 on oregons site may be a stupid question.... thanks
  8. I'm using a Danarm 177ss in a stihl planking mill, it works well enough, but my mill is only 18". I have a longer one, again stihl, but I cannot find a suitable bar. It seems no one makes a bar with the right pattern, Oregon did but not for a while. Can anyone advise me where I can get a bar or does any other make of bar fit? BIG PLEASE
  9. I am using a Danarm 177ss as a milling saw and cant find a bar to match the saw! No one seems to produce a bar with the right pattern, can anyone advise me please?
  10. bit late with this but.. my chippit did the same, now has a twin cylinder Petter diesel 28hp fitted. works really well, engine note doesn't change!! Had to do some maths to work out pulley sizes to get speed right.
  11. just bought a secondhand sc252 and have to go and collect it. I need to fit it inside my van or on my trailer but both are short! Looking at the pics it seems that the 'steering' wheel and draw bar can be removed, is this the case? If it can then what would the overall length be? Would be really grateful if a kind soul would measure theirs for me. Using a Dosko at present and have a purpose made trailer for it so will do the same for the Vermeer, copy the factory trailer. Unless someone has one of these trailers they are happy to part with? cheers
  12. Hi Guys I have a Stihl mill (unused) and a Danarm 171 (1970s) that is also unused, army reserve stock, (still in wooden box) and wondered if I could marry the two? The Danarm is over 70cc and 3/8ths chain. I normally use stihls but wondered if anyone could advise on the use of a Danarm.
  13. Thanks guys, seems I am doing it right!
  14. Yes spotted that, almost identical to mine except that looks like a Spencer cherry picker, a bit lighter! As a result of these discussions I may be removing picker and making it trailer mounted

    turfing

Hi guys, silling question time! Can anyone give me advise on laying turf on sand. I have been laying turf for 30yrs, strip old, rotovate, etc etc, Just looked at a job, multiple lawns on a large housing site and project manager suggests stripping old lawns off, putting river sand down and levelling it then laying turf onto the sand. He says hes had this done before and its quick and less mess. I like the idea but am not sure, certainly quick and easy and easy to get levels right. Obviously grass likes sand and will grow fine but the roots will have to get in deeper to find food and drying out could be an issue. Please comment. Am I the only fool whos still doing this the hard way?
  16. Thanks Little Steven, very usefull. Treequip, The rules regarding MOT and red are confusing but I have had long phone conversations with DVLA and Customs and excise.... If the cherry picker comes in at over 3500kg then is Special Vehicle and doesnt require an MOT, as landy is under that weight I would have to supply all details to them and they will grant special rules (subject to being assesed by commitee). The item of equipment has to be perminantly mounted and relies on the base vehicle to be opperated. Pretty much the same with the red, as the picker is powered by the landy engine it can be run on red. It can only be used for purpose!
  17. Cost of the restoration will be low. Runs fine, needs welding, painting, brakes doing, all stuff i can do. The picker needs all new hydraulic pipes and some new control cables. Guess about £1500. Biggest worry is testing and legality. Used to have it registered as mobile crane, ran on red and MOT exempt. Can anyone tell me what the LOLER test consists of and some idea of cost?
  18. Hi guys, I'm new on here but have been in Trees for 30+ yrs. advice please.... I have an old series landrover with an Acklift 9 meter cherrypicker mounted on the back. The hydraulics run from the gearbox and also power a huge hydraulic winch mounted on the front. I havent used it in anger for about 10yrs! Decided to restore it and get it back on the road this year (I know its old but I am emotionally attached to it) and fit a new engine. My problems are... a. is it a good idea? b. Insurance, stupid quote from NFU c. will the picker pass LOLAR test? Any advise/ comments please
