    Thanks, good point. The house is accessible to a transit van sized vehicle, and the paddock is optional! Will take some pics when I've managed to gather the wood together.

    Hi all As above, really. I've got a few ash trees (small to medium, and and a few big old trunk sections - but they can and probably will be left to rot) felled into manageable chunks, but I have tendonitis and don't really fancy logging and splitting them myself at the moment. Anyone in the Chepstow area with a small ish processor (access not wonderful) who'd have a look at it / see what they could get done in a day? I can probably move it all into one location if that helps, but said location is up a steep bank and through a 9' gate into a paddock, so this may actually make matters worse! Thank you.

    Cheers all. I don't mind how it looks, I just want it to last. But I guess even dry and cracked, it will outlast me! Will slosh some oil on if I get a chance.

    Thanks. I don't mind the grey, but there are cracks and it just looks dry and tired.

    Hi all We have an oak beam (external) on our garage, and it's looking rather grey and pale and cracking. I'd like to give it a coat or three of oil or something to protect it. I've got teak oil and linseed oil - would either of these suit? Or is there something better by Osmo or whoever? I'll sand it back then apply something by brush I think... Thanks.

    Done a bit of googling, and you seem to be right. Have seen the odd rat here, but not seen any bigger holes with the spray of material as you describe. Hopefully they're living elsewhere! Probably the stream...

    Yes, lots of tracks and runs in the grass, and lots of mice! Mind you, we might have voles too, we are near a stream and woodlands. The ones i think are mouse holes are maybe 2/3 golf ball size? Table tennis ball size, maybe!

    Isn't that quite big for a vole? Rat? Have similar in our paddock, unless they're just big mouse holes.

    Anyone used the Lidl one? I'm guessing with a 6.5m/s chain speed it's fairly slow?

    Yes - I like the idea and handiness of a battery saw, but the cost (for a decent model) once you factor in batteries and chargers is maybe 3 x a basic spec petrol saw...

    What saw is it? I was pretty keen on getting the Einhell 36V battery saw, but they don't seem to be making them any more, only the 18v one with much slower chain speed and short bar. I do need reasonable performance, maybe 10m/s plus chain speed. (I have a Titan mains elec saw, 15m/s I believe, and it's a very competent cutter - but I'd like a battery version...)

    What splitter is the hydraulic one, Stubby? I like the two way splitting, and it looks beefy. What's the tonnage?

    Just to say I've got two pairs of cheapy tongs from Ebay, similar to those posted, and they've worked well for me! No trouble at all. Nothing has bent or twisted and I've dragged some biggish chunks around. Personal use only though, so nothing like the use a pro might give them...

    When I play it there's still no picture, only sound. Could be me, but most videos on here seem to work.

    Can't see the video, can only hear the sound? A tree fell in the wood next to me yesterday, barely a breeze - but the ground is soaked, as you say.

    I try and bring mine in a day or two before I use them, and also try and sit them in front of the burner for an hour or so before I put them on, just to get rid of any lingering moisture before they go in the stove. Even logs that I've dried for 9 months in a polytunnel before burning can still seep a bit of moisture when stood in front of the fire. I presume that's moisture they've reabsorbed in the damper winter months as I'm pretty sure they were fully dry at the end of summer. I do live in a damp Welsh valley though.

    I had a tree pack or two from the WLT. No site survey or maintenance requirements or anything, just ordered and paid. (They will give some advice on specific packs too). I was happy with the trees and shelters (and the price), though quite a few of the stakes have rotted off at ground level now - don't seem that good quality.

    Cheers all. Will try some logging with the Titan tomorrow and see how that goes on the wrist. Will get a battery saw at some point but might have to use a bowsaw left handed for now!

    Cheers chaps, looks a good little saw for the money and easier to get hold of than the Aldi specials.

    Good point, thanks. I'd assumed that elec would be gentler. Having said that, my petrol saw is a cheapy spear and Jackson (Chinese wodowmaker) so anythjng should be an improvement. Also good point, cheers. Will see if I can get my hands on one to try.
