  1. Don't mention it, you're welcome.
  2. Also stumbled across this, which might be relevant:
  3. Fair. What does a litre of petrol cost? Logs sound far too cheap there, though I suppose there are a lot of woods about.
  4. How does the heating oil price there compare to the UK, if the Scandinavians do oil hearing?
  5. Thanks GP, will send you a message.
  6. Excuse poor quality, took them off my facebook page.
  7. I used to live on a hill outside Bristol, and when the red arrows came to do displays at the balloon festival and other events nearby, they'd fly low and fast over my house as they were turning to go back to Ashton court. I didn't even have to leave my garden to see them, will see if I can find a pic.
  8. That's smart. Wouldn't even need to be so highly finished, I'd be happy with a rougher look.
  9. 👍A bit more hopeful then. Guessing sweet chestnut would be pricier?
  10. Probably a bit too far I fear. Would need to be delivered probably, unless the bench could be disassembled and fit in my car.
  11. I was thinking of having a gap between seat slab and back slab. But I do rather like that, with a higher back.
  12. Huh. I was hoping it wouldn't be that much just for a couple of slabs, a couple of back supports and some legs. But I suppose timber costs have gone up. Will see what I can find.
  13. Thanks. I'm not a woodworker, I'm an idiot! Could probably make something functional myself with a chainsaw, but don't really have the time or the wood, or much skill. I imagine we'd have a £200 or £300 budget - definitely thinking of a rustic option.
  14. As above, really. Toying with the idea of a birthday present for me! Something fairly rustic, long lasting wood requiring minimal care, but not too pricey. Larch? Sweet chestnut? I imagine oak would be a fair bit pricer. Doubt I've got anything suitable growing here, so don't think I'll be able to provide wood. Will have a word with the wife as to budget... Anyone near Chepstow who could make such a thing? @Squaredy, I seem to remember you're near me, and you make wooden things? Cheers.
  15. We get plain white ones here, beautiful things
  16. Looks like a plume moth? We get them in the garden occasionally
  17. Thanks. That doesn't sound too bad, considering. And yes, with prices only going up at the moment payback isn't likely to take too long for those who have the money to hand.
  18. I'd be interested to know what sort of quotes she's getting and for what size of system, if you wouldn't mind? My understanding is that what was a 10k system before the pandemic is now 15k, or even more. (That's for panels and batteries)
  19. Unfortunately, prices for solar panels and batteries have gone up a lot since pre pandemic, and all the decent installers are booked up for months. Still tempting though. Hope I've got enough wood for this winter anyway.
  20. Don't their wings make it hard to weave the rope?!
  21. As I've commented elsewhere before (in fact that's my thread above I see!) electric splitters have their place. I've got a knackered wrist so can't do much axe (X27) splitting any more, so borrowed a 6t forest master duocut. On easy splitting ash the axe (with a tyre to hold the logs) is definitely quicker, but the FM was good - very few things stalled it, including horrible gnarly stuff I couldn't have done with an axe even when my wrist was good.
  22. Didn't know that, thanks. 👍
  23. Fair. I thought for my level of usage there was no point in buying one of each. I will get a better set of bits, and some new screws and see if that helps. I do indeed have a dad box of screws and odds and ends that will come in useful one day😀
  24. Thanks Sime. Yes, it's brushless. Never used this one too hard, but the front of the chuck has dropped off from time to time, I thought it was user error. Removed the chuck and the internal torx screw seems tight. Will try some better screws and see what happens!
