  5. Morning all just a little up date on how things are going with Weaver he is coming on really well obviously growing and getting stronger but training is still at doing the basics at the moment and nothing to technical. i took him out the weekend hopping to get some decent photographs of him but I only managed to take one as my iPad crashed and just wouldn’t turn back on so this is Weaver just waiting to go and pick up trianing dummies. hopfully I will get my iPad sorted it doesn’t Lime the cold and just shuts down so will try again.
  6. Well this year is APF year along with a few other shows..APF this year runs from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th September went online last night just to double check dates and surprised to see you can order tickets and book camping so all done..going I on the Friday and Saturday and camping on same days and with the ARB SHOW now in April it’s always nice to look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.so who’s thinking of going or is it to early to be thinking about?
  7. All what has been said is all relevant and we all know how it works in putting quotes in and pricing work but only from experience and years of doing all kinds of different jobs,it’s not rocket science as far as pricing goes but it is the most important part of any business and crucial not to get it wrong on to many occasions. He has lost this job for what ever reason but it’s all a learning curve and like has been said just keep going and you’ll be fine, jus tdont under value yourself?
  8. Paul there could be a number of reasons why you didn’t get the job and obviously price is a big factor but also sometimes clients (meaning the general public) do not have a clue how much this type of work costs and the amount of work involved. you could have halved your price and still not have got her job,I did a landscaping job last year and when I sent in a itemised quote in saying a ton of building sand costs £40 the customer said he thought a ton of sand was £5 they just don’t have a clue. so what i’am saying is don’t change your pricing structure it’s just as you say,win some lose some.if you worry about that you were to exspenive and lower your price you will always be second guessing if your quotations are correct, just put a price in and stick to it unless they come back and ask how much for cash in that case you can decide what is the best cash price you can do.
  9. ?
  10. Hi Paul please don’t think I was being down on you and making it sound like your underpricing yourself.like I said previously we all have our own way of pricking and we we all charged the same none of us would get much work. Its really quite simple, you charge what you feel comfortable with and the margin of profit suits you and your happy with it. i guarantee most guys on here started exactly like you have with a van mineable tools etc(Did you read all my previous posts?) Anyway good luck with your new venture and am sure you’ll be fine, all the very best. wayne
  11. Not sure discussing dog shite is helping the lad who asked for some advise on pricing but guess it helps to know.
  12. You need to get on the zigzags buddy...good second hand ones on eBay I got one just before Xmas including the karabiners £140 for my secondary climbing set up and may use for double rope set up.
  13. Mike that’s far to many numbers and to complicated for me,I keep it simple as explained in my previous quotes. We all have our own way of quoting and we all win some and lose some but I have never and will never over price a job just to lose it for what ever reason. As the job poster has said we all starte of at the bottom with an old van a a shity old Unarmed chainsaw and worked our way up. The difference now is social media such as Arbtalk were these start ups can seek and ask for help from guys who have been in the business for many years and don’t mind passing on hard earned many years advise we’re in my start of days it was learn on the job and from your mistakes. We have given our advise be it in many different ways and views. At the end of the day my price for that job is based on what I know i’am capable of doing with the gear I have got and my method of work. I know I could crack that job out in a day wish in winter starts at 8am on site 8.30 start and got a window till 4 for tree to be down and chipped and work areas cleared by 4.30. £650 2 Man Team done. if you are a one man business just starting out with a van and having to make tip trips etc and novice climber that job will take you 2 days plus,so do you charge the same or more?? Lots of factors come into play but am sure for 2 days it would and should be more then £650.
  14. Make sure you don’t spoil her to much ?
  15. You price the job according to your capabilities and equipment....if you got a van and trailer and you making tip trips then your a mug if only quoting £450/£550...that is a 2 Man job and Chipper done in a day even logging up £650 done and home.
  16. I get we’re your coming from Marc but this job £600/£650 easy job,the client even wants most of the timber left on site.Tidy?
  17. My Arbpros in the first picture are around 2 yrs old and still got life in them...Arbpros are still around £180/90 and yes the quality of the Fitwells are as good as the Arbpros but only wearing them and seeing how long they will last will be interesting, they also look very smart.
  18. Nice job flatters..they look clean and healthy from the photographs, what was the issue?
  19. Again why? Ben please don’t think am being funny cause it’s not in my make up but I did just say we all have our own way of pricing work,I personally price the job and how long I think it will take etc obviously comes into it...but at the end of the day a tree is a tree and apart from how long it takes to remove it will very it still takes the same amount of time to get it down.this particular tree has 2 options but because one option is drop it close and the other option is to drag it 100yrds why mess about with the price, option A same money job easier option B same money takes slightly longer but in each case it’s still good money for either scenario..that’s my way of thinking and it works for me and most importantly as long as the client is happy with the price and agrees it really doesn’t matter.
  20. Why? The price is for doing the job not how long it takes.simple why over complicate it...anyway not getting into a job Priceing war the lad asked advice on what to charge and I have just told him what I would price it at,he doesn’t have to take the advice we all have our own way of putting a price on jobs....the way I do it has worked for best part of 40 yrs...so arn’t Going to change now.
  21. Hi Tom Well €170 which is slightly less expensive then the Arbpro but nothing in it really..I just liked the look of them and great feedback and I have just tryd them on and they sit lovely. But like I said no uk outlet so had to order from Italy but didn’t take long to arrive. THIS IS WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THEM H20 PROOF
  22. The thing about tree work more then most other jobs is time is definitely money, tree work you can charge to same for a 2 hour job as for a 5 hour job.so the price I would put on this job would be £650...that means same price if can get into the field at the back and drop the tree right next to the Chipper and get the job done double quick or if you have to drag it down the garden along side of house down path to Chipper parked on side of the road...the price is in the removal of the tree and not how far it needs dragging to get the job done and don’t forget most of it will be cut and left on site.
  23. Can you get on to that piece of ground at the back? If yes that makes to job easy,£500/£550 tree down to ground level and brash and waste removed(£400/£450 if he disposes of waste him or her self)and a extra £100 for time taken to cut into sized required logs, but don’t get confused between processing logs and just logging...processing would mean that you will split which you don’t want to do..£600/£650. The additional £50 to each price is up to you but no lower then the lowest price.dont ever start off by selling yourself short otherwise you will always be doing it.
  24. Hi Gary...sorry to hear your leg no to good at the mo and hope it all clears and you can get back to some kind of normality very soon...Try and make it down to the Arb Show or I feel not the APF and we can have a catch up and yes weaver will be with me??
  25. Well in need of a new pair of climbing boots to start off the new year so treated myself to some, been using Arbpros and have had 3 pairs and even though they are by far the most comfortable boots I have ever had to work and or climb in I just fancied a change so had a look around and found a company called FITWELL based in Italy but no uk suppliers. had a look at there range of boots and they have some great boot so decided to go for a pair of there Bigwall Climbing Boots and they arrived this morning..my Arbpros are looking a bit batterd so will see how these new ones stand up. MY ARBPROS LOOKING A BIT BATTERD NEW CLIMBING BOOTS WILL SEE HOW THEY HOLD OUT
