  1. Yeah that was the plan. I do like fresh carved mushrooms but figured there might be a bit of a demand for rustic weathered ones to go straight into gardens and blend. I love the smell when i do it too.
  2. Only thing I have done really. Got some big stuff knocking about so might have a go. Did other mushrooms which i have put in the woods to moss up. Oh and an egg
  3. Erm is it my eyes is the gate in the first pic opening towards camera? If so, shouldn't the spring be on the other side to work right?
  4. Hill climbing. Deadlifts and squats with weights. Even short sprints up an incline then a slow return and repeat will make a massive difference.
  5. Something mounted onto the framework of a sankey trailer can work well from what i have seen. Tough frame, same wheels as landy so balanced too. Been looking into it myself.
  6. Not often walked. There are new trees being planted in the direction it might fall. They might lose the opposite large branch which will reduce pressure on the tree. Hopefully lengthening its life
  7. Hilarious. The ad one is brilliant. That david thorne is evil
  8. Ok. I'll suggest that as an initial option. There's still plenty left and in good condition apart from the rip. hoping to do some woodturning out of what has fallen
  9. Yes it is. Its in the middle of the woods. Near fromes hill on hereford worcester road if anyone knows where that is
  10. The path is about 40ft away. There was a bit of included bark above what went. I thought if they lost the large branch on the opposite side it might balance it out. Reduce the stress.
  11. Hi chaps. On a woodland craft course this week and have been asked my opinion of a beech tree. Its pretty sizeable. The original ( bear with me) trunk would have been nearly 2 feet. Recently a large bough came down ripping some if the trunk with it. Theres not a lot of branches on the side that came down now but on the other is one sizeable one. Its about 50ft tall i should say. The wood is owned by a collective and they wanted to know what the options are. Its not near a road but quite near one of the main routes through the woods. They wanted to keep it if possible as theres only 1 other beech in the wood. What are your thoughts? Thanks
  12. +1 agreed
  13. Yeah but of all those people that usually moan they say they'd rather it went in the nhs. Funny that being as how half the new hospitals are money pits financed by private finance initiatives that gordon brown brought in. Norwich hospital for instance has to pay back £150million. But hey ho lets spend it there!
  14. Or be able to Nice ash most of what i did today and probably only did a few tonnes.
  15. It's worth having a look at gumtree too. Also check the papers for local auctions. Few husky's came through local sales sub £100. Well used but working. Get them services and sure they would get you started.
  16. Complain. Not to customer service desk but write to supermarket hq. Be sure to tell them you felt it was very poor quality considering it was " butcher's selection" and misleading. You might be surprised at the response. Complained to asda once and got a voucher.
  17. I have used a maul all day and my back is wrecked. Ice pack required
  18. Thanks. Good to know. We're not a pro outfit just need firewood for at home and trying to save my old dad struggling when i am away. He will insist on doing it. We have a little hydraulic splitter but in the time it gets through 1 log i have split several with my wood grenade. In all honesty welding a wood grenade on instead of a wedge would probably work better
  19. Thanks. We are looking at wood no bigger them 18" max. Cherry, birch, beech and ash. Been offered a diesel conical one for £250 on a table all set up. Guy bought it but it scares him as its pretty boisterous i think. Done right there should never be a reason get hands near the cone when its operating.
  20. With a trooper have to be a little careful. Look at whether there are obvious signs of a changed windscreen. Is there silicon under the rubber? Check for wet front carpets. They are steel bodied and prone to rust along the A pillar if scratched when removing old screen. Damp runs into footwells. I think the ecu is under passenger seat or the cd changer if it has one. If its been looked after will pull like a train. Ford rangers are tough. Chassis isn't an issue but bodywork on older ones can be. Of course we are looking at right hand drive motors. Are there any left hand drive variants available on continent? Pretty sure there are cheap pickups in spain right now.
  21. Rather interested to see how this so called protest will develop. Strictly working class ex-miners mixing with blatantly upper class students just out to make trouble (as usual). They'll end up fighting i imagine. These young yobs always spoil any legitimate protest with violence and vandalism. Not sure how that will sit with miners. Personally i think you have the right to your protest. Its not going to affect the world but if thats how you want to express derision about the events of 30years ago fair enough. Respect to you. I hope that following the funeral that maybe there can be productive legacy and re-evaluation of where those communities can go forwards now.
  22. Looking with interest at this thread. I split by hand at the moment. Wood grenade and sledge and i have a manual two piece thing that is great on small logs. We saw some of these flywheel ones that look brilliant ( not the madcap home made ones!) but not for sale in this country. We are going to make a conical table like stubby's as they split anything.
  23. They are capable but the towing capacity is not that high which might affect you with a tipping trailer as they are slightly heavier.
  24. Personally as a tax payer i am prepared to bequeath £1 of my taxes to see her get a proper send off. Pretty sure there are 9,999,999 more people who would too so bollox to those that say they don't want to pay. She's was alive 30 years after resigning and there hasn't been half of the bile spewed over the years.
