  1. I have a team working in Lincoln for the next 2 days, anyone have a site to offload a 7.5t lorry of woodchip?
  2. We are doing a job in Hereford tomorrow, Conifers plus some willows. We could do with somewhere to off-load some woodchip about a 7.5T lorry load. May also be some Conifer wood to get rid of. Can anyone help?
  3. If you can get a grinder to them, I wouldn't even consider pulling them out, unless you can park a vehicle and winch near enough.
  4. I live in Kidderminster, I'm not after doing the job but if you want me to pop in sometime and take a couple of pictures, check the access, etc. I'm happy to do that and email them over.
  5. This sounds about right - Any trades call out fees are more than regular rates, especially if has been advised to work on them previously. For us a call out is just a make-safe, then quote to go back and finish the job as usual.
  6. I've had one for a while for kayaking, good quality videos, mines playing up at the moment although I think it may be the cheap memory card!
  7. I quoted that a few weeks ago, there was a caravan underneath when I looked at it..! and as I recall the access wasn't the best for a vehicle.
  8. I've had the reverse situation where I've looked at a job and recommended a MEWP, only for the climbers to look at the tree and opt to climb it instead. I think to go for a disciplinary hearing the employer would be looking at "refusing a reasonable request to carry out a task" - If there are several climbers of varied experience all saying too dangerous, then surely it is not a "reasonable request". Depending on the size of the company, how is the disciplinary hearing conducted and who is going to be sitting on the panel that has some decision making authority. - They may find that the panel consists of the boss, who's decision will be - [cue Alan Sugar impression] You're fired!
  9. In both cases it was scrambling round in conifers and the strop was rubbing over branches, but I am happy to admit that some elements of both of the above may also come into play! Most of my climbing is now into and out of vehicles and into my office chair! - probably safer that way.....
  10. I've dropped a saw out of the tree twice using srewgates and I don't climb very often. Rock and Run do triple lock carabiners for £6 each! - compared to the cost of a climbing saw, seems like a no brainer to me now.
  11. Take photos too, it's surprising how piles of brash seem to grow between viewing the job and the lads getting there to do it!
  12. Visited a site last week and this twin stem Alder was one of the trees - as you can see one stem has been completely ring barked, there is also a deeper wound on the stem. There is about 4ft of the stem, with no bark, on the lower end of the wound - the bark is starting to flake off however the top of wound is showing adaptive growth, with good callous wood growing around the bottom of the remaining bark. Anyone seen anything like this?
  13. I have a little Husky that does this all the time - Someone showed me that, instead of messing around filing the drive links flat. Just fit it back to the saw but VERY loose, then give it a few revs, the links will seat themselves back into the bar, then just tighten up and carry on as normal.
  14. I remember reading that most manufacturers tune their engines down to allow for running on poor quality fuel in other countries, as the fuel in the UK is pretty good by comparison it's fairly straight forward to rectify the fuel map, which is what the tuning boxes or a remap does. I've had one fitted on a BMW 320d and a Jag tdci and both worked a treat at ironing out the flat spots. Would love to put one on my TD5 Disco, but as it technically belongs to my boss.....?!?
  15. Will need a truck to collect????
  16. Found this today on one of our vehicles! Oyster fungus maybe???
  17. Just had on of these through - "I want to use you, but the price is a bit high" My thinking is well yes, we're a professional outfit with all the necessary insurance, qualifications, approved contractors, etc, etc. The guys who can do it cheaper, you obviously don't want mooching around your house and garden! That's what you pay for.
  18. Chipper spec has higher noise protection in the ear defenders.
  19. I did a bit of paddlesports coaching for a local centre, every time I got a call I'd ask "Coaching or Fun Session" - it was always fun session! - There's only so many times you can get kids to sing 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes' whilst standing in a canoe!
  20. Arbor - Frigus testicularis - Tree of Cold Testicles - Erect in form, with full plump fruit during the flowering season, but shrivelling during the colder months.
  21. Came across this on a site we look after, got me stumped. Several areas of fungus on old wounds and cavities. The fruiting bodies are firm and woody, break apart like cork and I would guess perennial as they are covered in moss.
  22. That's a bit cheap I reckon, it's not as if they grow on trees you know..!!
  23. I have been asked to look at getting on this course in order to take over the inspection and recording of all our kit (6+climbing kits + lowering + Rigging, etc) The course prerequisites suggest either CS38, 39, etc or 5 years experience. although exceptions may be made in some cases / supportive roles. I have only CS30/31 but have been working for a professional company for nearly 2 years, this has seen me move from the groundwork and now taking more of an office based role, quoting, estimates, prepping jobs, organising teams, etc etc. I have done a bit of climbing (and a past history as a rock climbing instructor) and have a reaasonably sound knowledge, allbeit not the tickets to back it up. Basically I'm after any advice from providers of this course (or those who have taken it) to help decide if I would be able to do the course.
  24. On my 30 assessment I threw the stick into the top of a locked barn cos I was sick of the bloody dog, it disappeared for about 10 minutes, then returned with the damn stick! Top bloke though gave some great tips on my 30&31. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
