Out of interest is this website just for protection of tools within the UK or can it be used in Ireland and other countries? Great idea and well done on the set up.

Its a misfortune i think. If you say the council has strict management regime for there trees id imagine it would have been looked at in detail once in the months prior to failure but saying that at times there may not be many detectable signs of decay. Dont be worried about it just know your questions and take your time in the tree and do everything safely and youll be fine its not a race once you can get the man to the ground in reasonable time and being safe about it youll be flying good luck !

When working in mud or water i had chainsaw trousers and boots on with waterproofs over them and got a roll of duct tape and taped the waterproofs tight around my boots and then i could go any depth of water and not get wet feet/chainsaw trousers muddy or any saw dust down there

I got public liability insurance in the UK to do tree surgery in ireland and i dont have my own company or anything just yet. Considering the quote i got for worse insurance in ireland was almost double what i got it for in the UK I wouldnt look towards the few insurance companies that deal with this industry in Ireland. Unfortunately I cant help in relation to the type of insurance your after but im sure there will be somebody with a bit more knowledge along soon to answer your question. Thanks Darragh

Diagnosis of ill health in trees is a great book A lot of information covered but getting one of the old editions is next to impossible. New edition was published by AA or ISA i think

Dont think its been mentioned yet but paintball would always be worth considering just get in some obstacles like scrap cars and all dig out bunkers and then get some paintball guns it could be worth a shot if you in the correct area well either paintball or airsoft

Hi I'm currently doing an investigation project as part of my coursework in college. This project is looking at machinery in the aboriculture industry and the newer technologies getting put into chainsaws and such today.So as part of the project I have decided to try and get some opinions from arborists around the country/world to establish the opinions of the newer machinery that is coming into the industry as well as how you think future machinery will be performance wise. I have come up with a few questions that I think will give me the necessary opinions of arborists who work with this machinery for a living:001_smile: Is the machinery that is under the new EU regulations regarding exhaust emissions matching up to the standard of machinery that was used before the regulation came in i.e. 200T vs 201T Do you think the newer models are improving the standard of work in the arboriculture industry or is it staying the same? What impact do you think future technologies will have on the standard of machinery being produced ? As eco machinery creeps into the arboriculture industry do you think this will have a positive or negative impact on the industry ? if you had the choice of a brand new ms460 or a brand new ms461 which would you choose? i know some of the questions on here are a little bit bland and some are difficult to answer but i would really appreciate if you were to share your opinion on this even if it means answering a single question as id rather ask professionals about it rather than the people in my class who wouldn't really have enough experience to comment correctly on the machinery. You can do but as far as i know the more qualifications you gain the higher chance of getting employed. Theres a list of most of the qualifications that are available to be gained through nptc although alot are forestry based click on the NPTC to see the qualifications NPTC

Hi Liam Im at college now in my second year doing arboriculture You need to look into level 3 arboriculture courses at a college i suppose or you could look at apprenticeships in it through a college. There is the option of taking the tickets for felling and climbing and such seperatly but it will cost alot more but you will have the tickets quicker. Personally i picked college because you get more knowledge out of it and more things to put on a cv. Hope this helps

Great idea and if produced would be something i would defiantly buy As a student this year I would have killed to have a book like this, as finding information like this on the internet is a painfully grueling task and is extremely time consuming. Good look in the production I am sure all will go well and will be successful

When i did mine it was a case of if the tree had clearance underneath it go all the way through then come back up through the top if not it was the opposite way around but it all comes down to the way the tree is sitting and what way the tension and compression is on the tree

yeah he doesnt look in the best of shape in the new series its a terrible thing that can strike so fast lets hope brad swilley and james can pull some logs for him this series

I ran my old tm 125 mx bike on the stihl hp oil at 50:1 ratio and had no problems with it at all and it didnt effect performance at all, it done just as well as all the other oils i used and ran quite smooth maybe give it a shot and see what u think of it sweet bike by the way i envy you
