  1. Ok I forgot a comma, once! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Read mine carefully, your access TO the logs! For every log you have to walk up the hill, attach the winch to the log to pull it out, then walk down, retrieve the cable and back up to get the next log, assuming you cut the logs at the same time, and not cut and winch, which would probably kill you! Also, a bar that size, you're talking husq 3120xp upwards, so 25+kg, plus a full combi can (you'll need all 5l of fuel) 8+kg, wedges, sledgehammer, slings to choke the logs, so expect 50kg of kit to carry, so as I say, can you access from the top of the hill when you cut the logs up? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. I assume you'll access the wood from the top of the hill? If you're going to hike up a steep bank with a 42"+ saw, swing it around for a few hours and then march back down, good luck, especially as you're going to need to go up and down for each log! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. That's because you live in the arse-end of nowhere where you're snowed in for 6 months and Sweden is closer, so husky chain would be more readily available Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    frankensaw

So a frankensaw is a saw with a different top end? I was under the impression the top end needed to be off a different crankcase model? If not, I have a fair few of those... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. Yes, the reference was to air injection, there is no other practical way to pre-filter the intake air without loosing volume of air intake. And yes husky takes more off stihl than the opposite, or at least enough to pay researchers to come up with revboost, crank stuffers and carburettors smart enough to know what you had for breakfast Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Correction, stihl rent 2-mix, m-tronic and what ever they call the air injection, in return, husky rents elastostart... And gets zama carbs at a cheap rate, which they sell back to stihl at a premium. Stihl only started renting husky tech after the buy-out fell through in 2006. Husky still have the edge in tech, and I imagine they will for a good while, unless stihl drop the 4-mix and go more with the fuel injection system. And yes, it is true, you may only use something that somebody else has patented if they give permission, as they would definitely sue each other if they didn't get royalties for their creations Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Envy, greed, lust, gluttony, wrath and pride could all be husqvarna saw names, but stihls are all sloth Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. I'm sure he has although he's been surprisingly productive on here recently rather than just squabbling with TCD about which is better out of husky or dolmar... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Kind of difficult when the opposition has already patented the only practical filtration system Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. When did they obsolete it? I only got mine about 6 months ago, then had to have stihl send me a load of extra parts as the assembly was incomplete Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. I don't mind, I generally avoid working on toppers as the compact design frustrates me when you have to take it all apart to get the bit you want to fix, although saying that, the stihl 1110 and 1111 series isn't much better! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Here we go again... Jon don't believe everything you read, some things are fictional, like the bible Windthrown, welcome to the site, have fun trying to understand English, and Jon-speak... Niko will be along shortly to tell you that stihls are crap and over-rated Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Yes, run aspen, then go to your dealer and order part number 1111 007 1025. FTR I run aspen in my 090, 051, 08s, 020avs and soon the 041 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. That's a husky though, they don't have bolt-on, bolt-off options... Although yours looks much nicer than my welded combi-spanner option Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Does the ring enter the port? I'd have thought dropping the gasket would have allowed the port to be lowered and the base of the port to be widened also, if the top can't be, so it forms a sort of trapezoid shape Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. You've got to widen the intake or it'll bog like hell! If the saw is blowing more out, it needs more in! And make sure the muffler is opened enough or you'll be fitting a new piston! To measure the squish, get a decent length of solder and twist it into a twin or quad strand, raise the piston enough to cover all ports and feed the solder into the cylinder until it contacts the wall, then raise the piston to TDC and back towards BDC, pull the now-squashed solder out and measure. 18. The software just tells you the mix ratio, engine speeds, run time, number of starts, etc. it also has the master reset button, that is all it offers. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. But stihl sell dual ported mufflers, which have to be tested safety-wise and as it is a possible option a user may fit, so the conformity cert would have been tested with it fitted Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. No it won't, the software that husky sells is only for resetting the carb Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. I agree, the whole point of a ported saw is it has more power, either for pulling a bigger bar (like 16" on a 200t) or more power in the cut so you can lean harder on a saw or have it hold a higher rpm, they also sound better, and if you're worried about the extra noise, wear bigger earmuffs! Fuel consumption isn't increased that much IMO, but what we do in the uk is what the Americans call a wood port, and a very basic one at that, so it minimises additional stress on the saw and fuel consumption isn't increased much either, the work would maybe shorten the life of the saw by a few hours run time, but not enough to notice. The race porting on the other hand, shortens the life considerably, but the saws run for a few seconds then they're left to cool, and rebuilt after. The PUWER conformity means it meets emission regulations, after all, the safety features still work fine after the saw is ported. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Well, I've just gained another saw, stihl 041av (points ignition), so over the coming weeks it'll have a new full wrap handle, fuel lines, carb kit, air filter, dogs and chain. Smokes like hell currently and won't idle for long (which I think is an overly retarded ignition) but after I reconnected the throttle linkage it revved up nicely. I've also found out every bloke in Essex sounds like Geoff! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. The modifications can shorten the life of a saw marginally, well porting, compression increase can, muffler mods extend the life as the engine runs cooler, there are about 5 of us on here who actively port saws, wes (wyk) being closest, otherwise your options are spud or petermate, you're best trying spud. 24. Vietnam is a good place to try, the yanks took loads over there. Try glyphosate or something like bayer longbow Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Unfortunately, drives me damn wild too, as I know that once it gets clogged up I'll be handed the saw! Last time I had a saw back, all that needed doing was winding the idle screw in! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
