    Husky 254

Heya folks, I have an old 254 in my shed that I quite fancy getting running again. I know they are not the greatest for anti vibe but a good saw in its day. I am going to use it for firewood and dirty stuff. The problems. I can only get it to start if I yoyo start it by holding throttle on full. It seems to then rev up fine after a few blips on throttle but it will not tick over unless I adjust the H and T. But it is then it is idling far to fast and will walk or bounce about. Reset the carb and it will not idle and not start (unless yoyo pulled ) I have replaced the filters and the fuel line from tank to carb, cleaned out the top mesh and checked the top needles and float thing sorry for my lack of techy terms here. I am kinda feeling like a choob as I type this. I should know what all this is ! It does feel like it as decent compression when I pull it. It does not seem to have a lot of power (my 137 out cuts it) It goes through a tank of fuel in about 5mins revving or trying to cross cut. its got a newish 15" bar chain and sprocket 3/8 Oregon prolite and is sharp and dmg free. Would I be right in assuming the fault is in the carb ? It was not my saw from new I got it from a close friend who no longer does tree work and to be fair I do not think he has ever maintained it!
  3. It is manky here today, clarty mingin fool dreich dank miserable stuff out there. Hard driving rain mixed with sleet and very dark skies low visibility and a lot of hill fog/mist. If I had tree work I would still be raring to get out to it though I just love to graft lol. I love the feeling after a hard days graft in wind and rain to come home to a hot shower and a hot wood stove with a pot of hot soup on top of it. Saw this on my Facebook and thought of Silky Fox After reading his treemendous thread!
  4. I can try and help steer it back I have been climbing with some old but very experienced tree climbers between ages of 44 and 65! All fit and capable of competent tree work! But anyway the eldest was studying me and pointed out something to help me! I was suffering from a right hand sore shoulder from throwing for changeovers. Which was making body thrusting up the climbing line with prussic pretty painful and slow. What he got me to do was so simple and so obvious I could only laugh at myself for not thinking of it. He got me to reverse my grip on the rope from thumbs upward to thumbs downward. So simple so effective. The power I was able to put out this way turned the painful climb into one of speediness and enjoyment "This is how us elders can continue to do this work he winked" "Keep your movements smooth and slow"
  5. Inspired ! I have yet to see the new Spiderman
  6. Superb I got to admit its an amazing place. I have a soft spot for Glen Nevis for its amazing wild camping spots. It is puke here now with lashing rain from the driving winds.. Reminds me of summer lol
  7. Hi Jon sorry for late reply I am about 1100 meters above sea from memory! But that was not my photo the last one I posted that was from west coast! I am on the east coast I have my missus home from hospital now all went 100% in the operation and stuff was found and fixed so all good. 3 weeks min recovery for her so that is me grounded at home till next year lol. Weather today! OMG it looks like the end of the world, very very dark as in night time stuff. Temps are well up from yesterday (not got a reading) but I would estimate about 0 - 4 degrees. Strong winds and light - moderate snowfall.
  8. Was a cracking day like Today it is all dark and gale force with snow falling all day I think I just love it when its -10 or below the light is amazing as well.
  9. Ahh ok self tend as in like how the petzl pantin does it. I have to manually feed the rope until about 8 foot up then it no longer needs my hands shoving rope through it. I get it now. I too am just learning the terms Cheers muckers.
  10. Yeah I was going to mention that when seasoned hard wood sheds bark like a ..... umm cant say that lol but yeah bark on makes me think its green. I have no experience with willow (apart from planting it) and rare to see chestnut where I am So loving the info.
  11. here here! And not just flasks but for everything that is made these days seems to be a shadow of what used to be made. It is only getting worse as well. My coffee brewing is still awesome though
  12. I am also looking for a new flask after my missus destroyed my fav one with some herbal teas that tainted it and then she used it for curry lol but to be fair it is the v fat thermos food/beverage flask. I have joined in on the research now after reading this thread and I just found what I consider to be a cracking good tip ! Just wanted to share that with you all.

Scammell Explorer https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=scammell+explorer&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=aY3&sa=X&tbo=u&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=fflb&tbm=isch&source=univ&ei=Yz7IUIukJ4qm0AXZ6YGABQ&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1680&bih=947 How cool is this:

  22. I would like to know what it is about the "Prussik" that I was taught to use that stops people using it. All I here talk of are Distel and VT and Blakes and Khliem (not sure of these spellings sorry) I asked about them on my CS38 and can't say I was given a solid reason why they are not part of the course.
  23. OMG is that fate messing with you did you take yer snow kit with you Or thinking to just hire? I doing a snow dance for you Lecht are running but its still a fair hike fae the spittal. Grab the offer mate and use it later. Is that allowed lol
  24. Nasty.. Deeside is a nightmare for deer. In fact the only place I have hit deer when driving is Deeside. Braemar - Blairgowrie is a lot of fun to drive,. Or can be a total ballache I think it its starting to freeze here now with snow flurries. A lot brighter as well.
