  1. We have just milled two lorry loads of this stuff for ec forest products in Sussex they might be after some more. Worth ringing them, there part of the venables lot
  2. We have some 45mm olive ash and some 4" not sure about 2 though. We are milling some ash in the next week or so so ill make sure I mill some for in the future.
  3. Unfortunately all the while the timber was waiting it would not really dry, it literally has to be planked to start drying properly. We have trees that have been dead a year or so and are as wet inside as they would have been when felled. All be it the sap would be dry the heartwood definetly is green still .
  4. There going to be worth a lot of money I a few years to the right buyer, drying will be a very long process but well worth doing slowly and safely! English oak planks and burr seems to be very daughter after at the moment what with so much European timber coming in to the market. Lovely pics
  5. Would love to charge 35 for out beams, not even graded is that much!
  6. As above we biy western red from euro forests for around £3
  7. We're lucky the sawmill is also a farm, all our sawdust goes straight to cattle bedding and the rest in the muck heap and out when it's all spread. Never had a problem with it going out on the fields or as bedding
  8. The biggest Thibg we have found is with any blade you need to let them rest, once they have gone blunt we take them off then leave them at least 24 hrs before setting and then grinding. Honestly we haven't had a blade snap in ages and the life we get out of our blades is starting to annoy our blade supplier lol
  9. Yeah a tree this big wants to be cut to it's best potential
  10. Love seeing things like this, good work from all involved
  11. The work will come you need to just get your name out there, word of mouth soon spreads stock 8x8. 6x6 are always useful in various lengths. You can never have the right stock but as long as you have trunks to pick and choose from, it won't be hard to full full future orders.
  12. The trees I've milled have been ok, we get a lot of farmers bringing slabs from timber that was blown down on there land which em they were told to mill rather than just log and that apart from being hard doesn't seem that bad.
  13. Wicked video there, funny cos were still dealing with the odd bit of timber from out last hurricane back in the 80's!!
  14. Roughly 1-4 a tonne per load, but prob only just under an artic load there so only really coat effective if your local.
  15. Depending where you are, we sell slab wood, bundles of larch 20 a bundle. Were down In Sussex though
  16. Does anyone have any English oak dry planked and must be fsc?
  17. Oh I'm not doubting that it's just the colour and shading
  18. Looks lovely that bench, it gives the appearance of shakes in it but it's obviously not
  19. Any photos of it, never heard if it before
  20. From experience the best burrs are on the out side so trim one side then once the burrs start reducing, turn it again and take off more, then again once they start reducing turn again. We usually take burrs off at 1.25" but it all depends how nice they are. And like j says stack well and store well
  21. The other (grey) sawmill is the new woodmizer wm1000 we bought it to break down very large logs, the throat cut is 1.7m compared with .7 of the woodmizer lt40
  22. If it's kindling why does it have to be precise?
  23. Actually there is a bloke who might be able to help, he was telling us he had a massive planer
  24. We can only plane up to 10" I'm afraid
