  1. 6 years ago had a fence installed for me, the contractor used 4x4 wooden posts (treated he said). I didn't watch him do it but it was sturdy. Anyway, one of the posts has rotten at soil level and the whole section had to be propped up to stop the inevitable. My question guys, given that all the posts are likely to be the same, or just lagging a little, and will rot in time, do I get them replaced with concrete posts. As it is adjacent to a brick wall about 3' -6" tall I don't want those concrete in fill sections at the base, I'd like to see the wall and have the panels starting just below the top of the wall, if that makes sense. Any guidance would be welcome. Thanks, Steve.
  2. Makita 4030 is quite capable, i have one with a 16" bar, does the job, keeps the peace.
  3. Make sure you don't stray onto the 'favourite girl' thread, haha
  4. They split the sheaf surrounding the tendon, so I suppose there's not much to damage, I mean the tendon should be ok, it's just the wound that needs to heal I suppose.
  5. You've informed the police, have you?
  6. How long did your surgeon say? My wife had the op and it was about 6 weeks before she saw the improvement. Thing with injury (and surgery) is not to rush the recovery.
  7. Can't blame the Favourite Girl thread, different part of the glove would have given way, lol:biggrin:
  8. Great photography, those penguins are interesting creatures, highly watchable prog, well done BBC
  9. Yeah, you're right, England play away.
  10. 16 : 6 to Wales, great result if your Welsh like me. Both teams played a good defensive game and Wales suffered at the scrum, but to be fair the pitch was tearing to pieces so the front row lost their footing more than once. A fair result in the end, the stale mate was resolved by that extra bit of brilliance with an excellent piece of footballing with North picking the ball up and scoring in the corner. Well done Wales. Anyone else watch? Tomorrow's match England v Ireland at twickenham should be one to watch, both playing well so wouldn't like to call that one.
  11. The Italians played with passion and as under dogs everyone in the northern hemisphere was routing for them, I'm sure, apart from the French. The early try must have given them the feeling we can do this guys. Our welsh ref was good I thought, fair and kept the game going as well as he could. Contrast rugby with round ball football, rugby players can take a knock or three, play with integrity and treat the match officials with respect. The other lot cheat, go to ground in the penalty area if someone dares to look at them and then swear at the ref if it doesn't go there way
  12. I'm conscious of the situation and don't use a chainsaw on a Sunday as I don't want to upset the neighbours, well you have live together in the same road, don't you! Even on a Saturday I'll use the electric saw if suitable, and limit the amount of time cutting.
  13. Also suffer with OA in the knees, I've been taking liquid glucosamine for years and it does help. Copper bracelets sounds like a load of cod's wallop, but not tried it. But diclofenac available on prescription reduces swelling when required. In evolutionary terms we're living we'll beyond our sell by date. Once we're spread our seeds, as it were, and raised our off spring, job's done and there's no further purpose for us I'm afraid. What's wrong with replacement parts! if we're to live into our 90's or longer (they say that 100+ should be achievable for many who have just ben born with the advancement of medical science), replacement body parts will be the norm.
  14. It's totally bonkers to be shipping, but synically its probably just another tick in the box, UK government meeting it's green pledge.
  15. Does he chip and burn, or does it need seasoning first? There's been threads on here people asking how to dry chip.
  16. Been watching a programme about Drax power station which is being converted to burn biomass instead of coal, which is going to consume vast amounts of wood so what does this mean to forest management and the supply of wood for other purposes, especially if more power stations are converted. I've read that the UK tree production is unlikely to keep up with demand and therefore will have to import cord from the continent. I wonder whether this makes sense, all the transportation involved which in itself requires lorries, diesel etc.
  17. He probably drowned in the sea of sarcasm!
  18. Alex, what sort of software do you recommend - not too expensive mind you Thanks
  19. Although only cross cutting, I always wear my PPE including helmet, visor and ear defenders, apart from offering a degree of protection it also tunes the mind into thinking about the chainsaw and helps remind me about not being sloppy in my work. Treat it with respect and wearing PPE is a good reminder (for me).
  20. This should come with a health warning of course, you shouldn't use a chainsaw whilst on a horse, or anywhere near a horse for that matter, anything could happen, they're unpredictable at the best of times. Lol:biggrin:
  21. I've never been around when the sweep has done ours, and when I ask the mrs she hasn't a clue. I'm curious whether you stick a camera up to check, similar to the way drains are checked for damage etc.
  22. That'll impress the wife, get plastered for £5 and all those birds!!
  23. I'd just add that stacking of the more irregular stuff is likely to result in more air than the bag with regular specimens. The top image seems to be a fair compromise. You obviously get enough people wanting kindling, I just split a log with my trusted axe, works every time.
