    Aldi saw

And your point Dr Pedroski, or is it p1ss taking.

    Aldi saw

At £79.99 it's going to attract the wrong type of user in my opinion. If chainsaws were a minimum of say £300, it would put a lot off. I paid £300 for a stihl, about the same on PPE, and then went on a chainsaw course. I'm only a part time user for firewood prep but treat the saw with utmost respect. I think long and hard before starting the engine and the course taught me things I would have only picked up the hard way. I've seen people who should know better, gardeners etc, using chainsaws without a hint of PPE and it gives me the shivers!
  3. Same with Safari on Apple IPhone, but ok with Google which Ive downloaded from the Apple store on my IPad.
  4. Just to add, I've got an MS211 with 16" bar, but find it slightly underpowered for my needs, I'd recommend something more powerful.
  5. Sure you can buy cheaper than that, think I paid £290 6 months ago from TH Power Products, Burscough

    Fuel Mix

Got some Aspen today, stihl ms211 ran straight away, no adjustment required. The difference in exhaust fumes is brill, stinks to high heaven with forecourt stuff, Aspen is so much easier on the nose, if not on the wallet !!

Makes absolute sense so I'm off to buy some Aspen as well. Many thanks Derwen

    Fuel Mix

Ok on a roll here, checked a previous thread on the forum and see two things that maybe happening with 'normal' unleaded / oil mix: "fuel going stale" and "oil breaking down". But this Aspen stuff (if you can pick it up conveniently) is pretty expensive stuff, might be better for me to mix normal petrol and oil as I need it. At least the oil won't break down if I'm mixing just before use, and even if the fuel deteriorates it can't damage the 2 stroke engine, can it?

    Fuel Mix

Just to add to my previous post, can someone please clarify for me, is it the unleaded fuel that deteriorates or is it the oil - if it's the fuel how does this cause 2 stroke engines to become knackered. I can understand it if it's the oil that's deteriorating, and what/how does Aspen survive better? Many thanks in advance.

    Fuel Mix

+1 , yes many thanks to all. Am I glad I read this thread, I'm getting rid of my old fuel/oil mix. Unaware of the pitfalls I could easily have damaged the engine on my newish Stihl saw.

    Fuel Mix

As a part time chainsaw user, how long can I safely keep and then use my petrol/oil mix? Went on a chainsaw course and I think the instructor said 1 month. Is that correct.
  12. Are they effective ? Out of interest, how do you calculate 15 ton for one of these?
  13. What make is it Arbor8, and what diameter will it deal? Sounds good, can't go wrong at £89.88 and still giving service after 3 years.
  14. Looks like the Scheppach OX T500, but 100 cheaper, is it rebadged by Axminster or a chinky copy I wonder. Balfor AV5 Looks good, with an exposed external ram, but twice the target price at least. Can be used either horizontal or vertical and has a decent oil capacity.
  15. For domestic use. Looking at a scheppach ox t500 and ox t700. Has anyone experienced either. The 500 has a 5 ton rating and 700 a 7 ton rating. In retail price the 700 is nearly twice the price. Also just within budget is the Ballario and Forestello AV5. Can anyone give me advice on what to purchase (I don't own or have the use of a tractor). Thanks
  16. Hi, I'm a new member, although not in any shape or form a professional, I'm here to listen and to get advice from those who know better. Having a wood burner I'm interested in the conversion of trees to logs. Have myself a chainsaw, PPE and have been on a course to learn how to use it with safety in mind. Now looking at a log splitter and appropriate advice.
