1. Just been looking on Jones's site at the Portek maxi and the ultra. Anyone know what the differences is, apart from about £49 in cost.
2. According to the ancient Mayans that is. So that's it, the last day today. What are you doing in the final 12 hours, or possibly less. Go down the pub and imbibe a few pints of muscle relaxant possibly, or what?
3. Makita 4030 is a reasonable machine, 2000W, plug in and away you go. It's neighbour friendly as well which I think you and your community are searching for.
4. If I was closer I'd happily have it off you, as long as its not rotten!! Season and burn!!
5. Thanks Big J. I've had a number of so called professionals around offering cavity insulation (should diminish now the subsidy has been removed). When asked about bridging the cavity and transferring damp to the inner leaf, and just as bad or even worse, damp to the joist ends ( we have suspended ground floor) he could offer nothing to satisfy my curiosity so I declined. Like you I'd prefer a colder house than a damp house, and once in the stuff would be very difficult to remove.
6. I hesitated about cavity wall insulation for the reason you've given here, plus the cavity is there for a purpose is it not. When you say there are more effective ways of insulating, what do you have in mind. Apart from loft insulation, double glazing and curtains what else?
7. Sir Brad all the way, hope tennis or golf don't get it
8. First Briton ever to win the Tour de France and gold medal 9 days later in the Olympic road time trial, which is his 7th Olympic medal (more than sir Chris and sir Steve).
9. Sounds good, probably contain that hand spray stuff they have outside wards in hospital.
10. Only thing of course, novo is a virus, which is totally different to bacteria. (Ref antibacterial wipes in treequip's post above).
11. But there's a lot of con merchants who sell it on as soon as the cut surface is equal to or less than 20%, but the inner is still unseasoned (30+ %). Not anyone on this forum I'm sure, but there are sharks about, but they're only cutting their business off, as a buyer once bitten twice shy, that's why I prefer to buy 4' lengths unseasoned, cut and split myself and wait a year or more to burn.
12. +2, Makita well made, the 4030 with 16" does itself proud. Can pick up new for £150, but watch the chain oil, soon runs out and unlike a 2 stroke you don't get a prompt, need to remember. I've put a Dyno label "check the bloody oil".
13. Makita 4030 is corded, 16" bar, works well, recommend!
14. Safety 1st 2nd and 3rd. Get some professional training, which will force you to get your PPE, and treat the saw with respect but don't be frightened of it. I've got a Stihl MS260 and a Leccy Makita to keep the piece with the neighbours.
15.

Hi smithy might be interested if you could deliver to Southport.

16. The wood should be well seasoned now, or possibly CO2
17. Season the logs first, then chip!! Joking of course, we're talking waste from the chainsaw aren't we. Need to keep the surface are as large as possible and maximise air flow. On a constructive note, try seasoning in smaller amounts, 1" thick by as large a surface area you can make it, season then repeat?
18. Out of interest, every time you're asked to drop a tree do you check it's not on a TPO?
19. If anyone is interested, there was an interesting 1/2 discussion on Radio 4 this evening about ash die back, quite informative. Programme was called 'Saving the Species', Fire up the iPlayer Radio if you want to catch it.
20. There was someone on dragons den recently doing something similar, no takers, no wonder!
21. It's said that the best camera is the one in your pocket at the time, normally your mobile phone! The iphone 4 has 8M pix (IIRC) and the optics are not half bad either. Impressive photo Rob, where was that taken?
22. Looks like a launcher that's suitable for thunderbirds
23. Yeah, I've seen it demonstrated, quick and violent. I always make sure to the best of my abilities that I know where the upper quadrant is. Keep a bloody good grip front and aft, and check the inertia break each time I start up for the day.
