  1. I was reading some the the previous messages specifically sections about protecting my milled timber from fungal attack. I think the general consensus was Wykabor Power is the way to go, but i can not seem to find it for sale anywhere on the net and i am sure when i first looked a few years ago it was. Has it been withdrawn? replaced etc? if so what is the best alternative? also, at what point are the boards sprayed? straight off the mill, cleaned of sawdust then sprayed before stickering? I have cut up a few tonne of oak and i am getting away with that ok air drying at the moment. It might be a different story when it comes to kilning but i ahve a few bits of spalted beach, cherry, birch and monkey puzzle which i am going to dry undercover and need to treat. thanks, John
  2. Big J, you mentioned on the first post on the thread about treating every plank with Wykabor, is this done by spraying diluted solution? do you do it as soon as it comes off the mill before stickering and stacking? thanks, John
  3. tree was on a clients property, a local company came in, dropped it and cleared up, I moved the big bits so no nuts about unfortunately. What sort of uses will people want monkey for? wondering what thicknesses to mill it into? any suggestions?
  4. above / below are photos of the 3 smaller sections of monkey puzzle. the biggest bit is still on site, it must be about 2 tonne as my tractor wont offer to lift it and will will manage 1.5 tonne not too bad. the diameter of the 3 sticks i have out are as follows, dont think they were as big as i remember.... 2'10" - 2'7" 2'4" - 2'3" 2'3" - 1'10" any advice on how best to cut it so timber is not wasted would be much appreciated, if it has to be cut into a big block and dry for some time, so be it, how much time etc. Thanks, John
  5. yeh, good point, timber is oak, and i know it really does depend on the quality of the board as to how much it has cuped, just looking for a guide
  6. devon!!! its a bit of a trek for a few boards sorry. yeh know lot of my mates and brother and sister all went to newton rigg college, they all loved it.
  7. hi, i'm might need some 2" thick boards to make window cills from, where are you based?
  8. that looks absolutely class, can i ask what section the legs and side rails are?
  9. Hi, i am putting together a cutting list for window boards, i want to end up with them about 1 1/2 inch thick and they are about 14" wide, i was thinking of getting 2" rough sawn boards, would i be about right loosing 1/2" planing both sides?
  10. Hmm, don't think I'll put a blade through them until I have a bit more info on how to get the best quality boards. I'll take some photos of logs and post them later
  11. Hi all, I am milling a large monkey puzzle tomorrow, 3 lumps at 10ft long each over the 30 ft it tapers from 3ft 6" to 2ft 6". im not sure what it will get used for, any advice on what thickness i should mill it? if it can be milled too thin or thick and have problems drying? it has started to go a little brown around 12" across the middle of the heart on biggest section but is still solid. I am not sure what it is goin to be used for, most likely table tops, window cills and anything else i could persuade people to buy it for!!!! thanks, John
  12. I was scanning a few old posts on here and it was mentioned about a select double cut mill, i was intrigued and looked it up, what a beast it looks and ..........theirs one for sale in uk, someone buy it, get it set up and let me come and perv at it Select Double Cut 4221 Horizontal Bandmill Log Deck Outfeed Deck 4016 TCR New and Used Sawmill & Woodworking Machinery & Blue Diamond
  13. i take it there is no log turner on this? or can you just not see the mechanism in the photos?
  14. the mill in devon was cheaper? can i ask how much it was? i have spoken to the guy and he seems pretty genuine, he was up for me coming up to take it away, usually scammers want to 'post' it to you without you coming to look at it. He has some old 3 phase tools as well
  15. Thought i'd post this ad, I spoke to the seller about the Arrowsmith Kiln, but unfortunately it had already sold!!!! i dont think it seems very bad money at all considering it has a 5 foot slabber too, i am tempted but at the moment i have unlimited access to a old LT25 so dont need the outlay, and a fancy a band will if things work out. Lucas Portable Sawmill Model 8. 8 1/2" cut Plus Slabbing Attachment will cut up to 5 Feet wide | United Kingdom | Gumtree
  16. dont want kiln dried for outside spiral, want it for inside on my house but had another job in mid if it was suitable for outside to half transport, but does not lot look like its gonna be viable for the decking, prob not even if its filled with preservative.
  17. Is it kiln dried? anyone know how durable it would be outside for a decked area?
  18. what thickness did you mill them at? any idea how long the tree has been dead before milling? I may have an elm butt too look at but think it was cut in the 80's so imagine it is rotten but dont know how it lasts, or if it has been lying in mud out out of the ground
  19. i know it would be more money but i was thinking of putting something a bit bigger than the B&S 11hp on currently, something like a honda gx V-twin 20HP, or convert it to either hydrolic using a hedge cutter motor or 3 phase electric. with an engine at 1k, plus blade plus paying £3000 top of estimte that puts it at £4300 ish, i could get a new lumbermate LM29 with electric motor for £4800, prob a Hudson for a bit less for a smaller mill
  20. no sure stan, i think philp has had the mill as an ex demo model from woodmizer late 90's but not 100%, i'll ask him when i see him next
  21. After a bit of guidance again.... A friend of mine who cuts up my saw logs unexpectedly offered me his woodmizer for sale, the only problem is neither of us know what it is worth, It is a LT25, i think it was manufactured in 1995, seems a good machine, everything is manual, which does not bother me for the amount i will use it as it will be easy to fix. two problems are that it has been stated to me by the owner that the engine is on its way out and the blade tensioner does not hold in the position it is set it, i presume it is a oil seal as it does slack after a minute or two. Any advice would be helpful to see if we can strike a deal. Please see photos below PS it has spent all its life under cover. thanks in advance John
  22. i think they had a 238 (well quite a bit bigger one that 28inch max log) on ebay for ages that look mint, ex demo, think it was about 5,700 ish INC VAT, i wish i'd had a go at it now, but always seem to fail to save enough money before i can get one. it was quote a bit bigger and looked a lot beefier than the 228
  23. Hi Lee, out of intrest are the prices from just saws who are dealers for hudson, or from hudson in america directly? if direct from america are the mill the CE marked version of the mills? is this 'in uk price?' thanks, John
  24. it was on ebay about 6 months ago, but cant remember where, i judged a book by its cover and passed it by as i though it was a fairly old racksaw affair that would be a lot of hassle, but after looking into it it looks a fair machine. from what you guys are saying some scammer could have copied the photos and description when it was on and then re-posted, i have seen this done with a lucas mill earlier in the year, i knew that was a scam as i spoke to the guy the first time around and he was in wales, the second time it was way up north scotland with stupid cheap delivery and no feedback, seen that with a few felder woodworking machines too, but this is bolton, so not to far, might be worth bidding on and going to collect with cash to see if it exists!!!!
  25. iv had a look on the manufactures website and it looks like a nice bit of kit for the money, but i presume it will not be that good for planking (compared to a bandmill), more for cutting larger dimensioned timber?
