  1. Instead of a power pack adding extra weight to the trailer would it be possible to run a dedicated feed from the towing vehicle to power an electric pump?
  2. Pensioner critical after Fort William ?chainsaw? attack - The Scotsman
  3. Might be of interest to some members John Lennon's son taken to court over $10 million New York tree war
  4. My friend experienced a trailer snake on motorway while driving a discovery with another one on trailer. The rear rims were knackered as the back end had been getting pushed around so much, things finally came to a head when front corner of the trailer dug into the motorway and tipped the trailer and towing vehicle.. Whilst the disco on trailer broke free and flew over towing vehicle to land on its' roof. Thankfully he was ok but both land rovers were write offs, incidentally a lorry behind saw what was happening, moved across both lanes to hold the traffic back and give my friend the whole motorway to try and rectify situation.
  5. The stroke processor has marks on the boom. Count the strokes.. Two full strokes is 2.5m pallet, two full strokes plus additional stroke to 50cm mark is a 3m chipwood/pulp and so on. Absolute simplicity, won't break any production records but just plods away and the tonnage mounts up. Ideal for a small company or estate
  6. Buy my kesla stroke processor instead for only £10,000 ! http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/forestry-woodland-management/57942-purpose-built-forwarder-thread-osa-fmg-bruunett-entracon-norcar-logset-etc-50.html#post1468110
  7. Not really arbtrucks but I liked the twin wheel base one
  8. It is a lot of machine for £10k, particularly when all the pins and headboard are there to make it back into a forwarder and then the Kesla could be sold if need be. I would do that myself but I'm reluctant to given that the processor was fitted professionally by JCC Engon. One rather crazy thought I had was to convert it into a firewood processor.. The saw can cut 45cm, there is a "splitting ram", there is a crane etc, et voila... One heavy duty firewood processor!
  9. Im selling this for £10k http://arbtrader.arbtalk.co.uk/listing/lokomo-919-forwarder-with-kesla-patu-stroke-processor/ No idea where the Stihl photo came from, never seen that image before. More machine pics are on this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/forestry-woodland-management/57942-purpose-built-forwarder-thread-osa-fmg-bruunett-entracon-norcar-logset-etc-50.html#post1446923 It's a tidy little machine, about same size as a Bruunett
  10. J, You’ll never get 40t per day in first thinnings, particularly at 15cm dbh which will give two pieces 3m chip/pulp if you’re lucky. - There are 30 pieces 3m to the ton. - 15 trees to the ton - 3 mins per tree to fell, sned, cut to length (very optimistic) - Equals 45 mins to harvest a ton. - A 10 hour day would give 13 ton a day…and that’s with not one break! So realistically going to be circa 10t per day harvesting and as TCD says there may be brashing costs too. I also think your figure of £32 per ton roadside for 3m is optimistic, you may be fairly near the Cowie chip plant so lower haulage but it still seems slightly high. I’ve been there and done that with heart over head thing re small scale forestry and I was doing ok with larger second hand gear until the £/€ really hit prices, fortunately I had a second career which actually pays more with less hassle… Albeit I still miss the woods on clear day. Anyway, I would strongly suggest you stick to milling – it’s what you know and more to the point there’s higher margin. Sorry I can’t be more encouraging
  11. Decided to sell the little Lokomo and Kesla stroke processor as I've fully retired from forestry these days, I had toyed with idea of splitting processor and keeping forwarder.. As you never know when might need it! Realistically that'll never happen and also shame to split as the Kesla was professionally fitted by JCC Engon. Great little machine which just plods away, the processor is controlled by crane levers so nice and comfortable to work. Well maintained and everything good and tight, excellent air brakes, starts on the button, ideal for a small estate or contractor. Headboard, bolster pins, rear extension are all there to convert back to forwarder if need be. Tyres all good except one and wheel chains for front included in sale. Willing to let it go for £10k plus VAT as it's just sitting in yard these days. 07825 138865 if of interest
  12. Ok thanks all for feedback, I'll maybe suggest they have look at few other suppliers and if they stick with Chesney's then fair enough, from comments above they seem a decent enough stove.
  13. Friends of mine have a chesney stove in their living room, they're now thinking of getting another chesney for their kitchen. the one they already have wasn't cheap, I'm no expert on stoves but to my mind it seems thin and tinny (to use a technical term!). Anyone else ever came across this brand and are they actually any good? Thanks in advance for any comments
  14. Come in with your trailer and take a pallet of four (or more if you want) and just give the forklift driver £20. They're at Newbridge so easy to get to Had rum in them so just need a rinse out
  15. Central Scotland Tom, doing some work (not tree related) in Edinburgh just now
  16. 200 litre drums, 50 available Looking to clear these out, of interest to anyone? Previous contents alcoholic spirit. Collection from Edinburgh, we can load lorry if required.
  17. Ok thanks, walked along it few times. Good to see it getting tidied up
  18. Is that the Water of Leith Tom?
  19. I suppose if not delivering then you have substantial time/cost saving, how many cube can go into an artic bulk trailer? I like the sound of that processor, particularly capacity and splitting force so will have a look on line. I actually work out of Edinburgh sometimes so maybe pop in and see it working at some point if suits?
  20. £27 per cube seems cheap given cost per ton at roadside in central belt.
  21. It might have been genuine sale and sold quickly but there was a few forestry items appeared same time, all in Scotland... Viewing wasn't possible funnily enough.
  22. Diesel and chain oil over paper. If you are doing multiple fires when you arrive in morning poke off the grey ash from existing fire till down to the glowing embers, then use a shovel to carry them to site of new fire. Couple shovels and you'll have heart of your new fire ready to throw smaller branches onto.
  23. Received the Stihl handsaw, thankyou. Whisky posted out last week
