  1. So then who's going? I'm there on Friday and Saturday morning. I usually met with 5shires and silky and the like. It would be good to meet up with some other folk. I'm bringing one of the mechanics from work who's been in the job for 30 years +, so you might well be able to ask him about some mechanical issues with saws etc. Anyway it will be good to meet up with new members and and some of the older fraternity that give some advice. Looking forward to meeting some new faces. Andrew
  2. I'm reapplying for my licence at the moment due to epilepsy. It's probably been 10 years since I've driven on the road. All I see as a passenger is crap drivers, and I'll be honest I'm not looking forward to getting back on the road. Driving definitely seems to of gone downhill.
  3. I've just tried the Panther carbon and the Ally one's. Both very comfy with top velcro and the standard straps on the bottom. The carbon had the medium gaff and the ally had the short. I didn't find that much difference between them apart from weight, and if I'm honest it doesn't seem much when you're wearing them
  4. I know for a fact there's been numerous increases since last September, hopefully his dealer has been nice and done it at last years price as he's already paid. We get told not to sell the engine unit only (other dealers might have a different manufacturers agreement) so only order the full kit. I have to say their not the best for communication, we haven't even seen the area rep for nearly 3 years.

    Personally I don't like using them, I find it harder to sharpen in the field when they've been ground. It is expensive and don't really see the point unless your milling and have a massive bar. As for being a bit of a faff to take the chain off, I just think it gives you a good opportunity to clean the saw. I have to say if I was sharpening the chain on the saw in a vice, I would most likely take it off anyway and clean the bar and saw afterwards
  6. I'll be following this aswell. The only folk who have complained are the one's who assumed it would be a 3/16 file like other .325 chains

    They flew over us twice about four weeks back. They were pretty low, see the pilots clear as day
  8. We got some clutch arms made to take the 2270 bearing instead of the 2260 (I think I've got got that right) made the job far better. Trying to get some more, but folk are asking daft prices. The original fella has now retired and hasn't got the tools unfortunately.
  9. I think he should start a new thread on these pics, and put all this behind us. There's a similar hospital near me which has mostly been demolished now. I remember going into one of the old boiler houses as a kid. They look very similar if memory serves

  11. There is the option of the AL300-4 which can be fitted to the van. Not sure on the connections for it as I haven't seen one as yet. It charges 4 batteries at the same time. It also plugs into the mains.

  13. We shall see. Went back in work today to find my chain had arrived, all good me thinks let's go do some cutting. Only to find out that the files are on back order till the 11th. Not much point having a chain I can't sharpen!
  14. You probably could file a standard RS chain with the hexa file, but could you be arsed for a few quid saving. It's not that much tbh. I'm not expecting miracles, just want a quick easy sharpen when I hit something (not that it's hard to do with standard RS) I'm hoping it's a good and quick alternative to square filed chain.
  15. Has anyone tried it properly yet. Only had one customer order some so far and not that many ask about it. I've got a 20" loop ordered for my refurbished 441. Going to see how it goes and deliberately blunt it to see how easy it really is to sharpen. Just a bit of good old product testing. Just a shame I've got to pay for it.
  16. The automowers only do 35 degrees and like a pretty smooth surface, might not be up to the job
  17. That would be a great resource. I get numerous new starters coming in to the shop asking how to tie stuff, be great to direct them to this. I can't say I get much time to show them face to face. Although I do try.

  19. You might well be able to find the serial number stamped on the engine. It's on the underside of the engine usually visible through a cut out in the plastic casing.
  20. I used the app for years, then started getting problems a couple of years back when I got a new phone. Started using the mobile site instead. It's far better than the app was, but that's my opinion. I have to say the new update is great

    Any shop worth there salt should have a chain for that. It's stuff like brake bands and the like that are no longer made I think. It's .325 1.6mm. So stihl chain 3639 full chisel or 3686 semi
  23. I just use the main site through my Web browser on the phone. Works smoothly for me, better than the app ever did imo

  25. In my experience oregon or husqvarna chains aren't the best to spin up. I find the rivets to be to long compared to stihl one's. I find the oregon/husq tie straps can shift whilst doing the first rivet and damage the strap. I always swap out for a new one in this case, and I spin halfway to try and stop it happening, then do the second and finish off the first. I tend to make in the region of 150 chains a week. Looking at the picture it's been slightly over spun, which can quite easily happen.
