  1. So we have large piles of soil mixed with smaller rock kicking about. I could do with separating the rock as it would be handy as hardcore and the soil could be spread on our fields. Now I am wondering if I could make use of our loader which has a 360 pallet rotator. Thinking about making up a decent sized drum of heavy duty 1" weld mesh attached to the rotator and loading it with the tractor. The rotator does not turn quickly but does this matter? I don't want to balls up the rotator but it's heavy duty so I am presuming it would be happy enough spinning away for a while. Anyone any experience of trommels and what does and doesn't work?
  2. Wonder if it's something along these lines
  3. Seems odd to me to presume that rich and successful are the same. I only know a few rich folks. They are miserable and stressed beyond belief, rarely see their kids and will probably die young from a stress realated illness. Daft buggers if you ask me. Mark beat me to it.
  4. Straight from jotul.com UK "The best wood for burning in your wood stove is to mix both a variety of soft and hard woods"
  5. Sorry to hear this Stubby. Hope things work out for you both. All the best Beau
  6. I will on occasion. Wood is getting expensive to buy in for our logs so if all the variables are in its favour why not? The variables are wood type, locality, access, the amount of tidying up required etc. So if it's some rotten alder at the bottom of a steep bank and needs to be left immaculate not a chance. On the other hand, your neighbor says "come clear this beech trunk sitting on my drive and I will clear up the brash" I am there in a flash
  7. Felt bad doing it but looking up old invoices we had held the price the same for four years and we all know costs have been going up a lot in recent times. No stickers here and proud of it.
  8. That's our experience. Supply dry logs (18-22%) and they come back time after time. Can't say they are put off by a price hike either as we put £10 more on a single cube this season and we are about to sell out.
  9. Sorry, you can't get out now. What you got?
  10. I was a bit put out when a rep at a demo commented on my "retro bike". Kind of like the fact it's retro now. Do you still ride?
  11. Spot on Alex. That first section of the path has some good drifts on it.
  12. Could have Murdered a cup of tea but would have never wanted to get back on the bike afterward ?. From the sounds of things, it was just madness on the roads on the moors today. Hope the sledging was good
  13. Yes, a very bad case. That picture is not mine and no way would I fancy navigating through that on a bike
  14. Simple equation. Find your closest weather station on here https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap Sometimes worth checking a couple of station as you get the odd one giving strange readings Set it to look at the last month or two's humidity and temperature. Then put the numbers into this https://www.woodworkerssource.com/shop/mois.html and you have the best you can do. Looking at few sites in that area 18-19% is about as good as you can get in the winter Can't get 15% here unless sold in a nice summer
  15. The higher parts of Dartmoor had a decent amount of snow. Sadly at the weekend, everyone wants to see it but there is simply not enough room if everyone parks on the road. Mountain biked offroad from home to avoid adding to the chaos. Pretty hard going and plenty of walking was involved.
  16. Don't get much cherry but I would say slower drying than most of the white woods but quicker than oak. Your call as to which pile it goes in ?
  17. That looks fabulous. You should be pretty chuffed with that
  18. Your preaching to the converted J. We have them on all year round on the Volvo. Better in the wet and the snow and ice. Doubt they would have helped Mr BMW as you can't teach stupid.
  19. Got to see what must have happened today. Almost straight flat road with a slight right-hand bend. On the bend, there is now a snapped telegraph pole in three pieces and the beamer is parked up a 100yards further on. Suspect plenty of speed must have been involved. Cars stuck all over the place going up on to the moors today. Gave a lift to one chap who is going to need a hoist to get his car out.
  20. Yes, plenty cant drive in a dusting of snow. Went past a written off BMW just up the road. There must have had at least 20mm of snow ?
  21. Meanwhile, on the continent, they are clearing the roads to make sure the kids get to school on time
  22. That's more like it Matt. Only a few soggy cm of snow down here
  23. Grey and overcast with 3.5C now. Lovely yesterday so we bunked off for a walk on Dartmoor
  24. It will depend greatly on the wood you get. We had a screw type splitter but I had endless trouble with fibrous bits holding together and having to have a hatchet handy to finish the job. If you have some nice straight sycamore that just goes pop when you show it a splitter you will be fine regardless of the length.
  25. Around 26 cubic meters.
