    Walnut

Never laid walnut but did some elm a few years back and that takes some beating for Devon style
  2. Having talked to a local stove supplier and having emailed a few stove manufacturers the ideal standard is 20% or lower but no talk of a lower maximum threshold from the stoves makers. Esse were the only ones happy with 25% for the max. At least 20% is just achievable air dried. All ours that were super dry in the summer have gone back up to 19% now but stopped there.
  3. I think the only issue is that the indicator on the dash does not see the trailer lights. The lights themselves work fine at least thats how it is on my Hilux. Since fitting an LED trailer board to the processor I have had no bulb issues unlike the built in filament type ones which were always loose or blown.
  4. I use the smaller Sellway bags and they hold around 13 litres of charcoal (measured in a bucket) Cost is around 50-60P per bag but that's all printed up.
  5. Riko had something similar called a Spitfire I think. Saw it demoed at a show. Not bad but made a lot of waste/kindling
  6. Whats the plans for the boards Stu?
  7. If you do a search on Google there are plenty of log lifting arches on trailers so maybe something similar on the truck?
  8. How about the injustice of IHT! You worked hard and pay all your taxes your whole life and end up with a nice nest egg which you would like to pass onto your kids but no the government wants a chunk of that as well and for what, dying? If you blow the whole lot that's fine but carefully saving is penalised.
  9. Yes, when I posted the link I was not holding up as gospel. Can't imagine they are impartial
  10. Kiln dried is just a process for drying. It is a system that is capable of beating air dried given enough time and energy but no guarantee of quality.
  11. This any good? http://www.woodheatassociation.org.uk/is-biomass-heating-causing-urban-air-pollution/
  12. Because 20% is more than dry enough for quality logs. Never seen a stove that is not happy with logs at 20% and never had a customer complain that our logs are too wet and we have sold a few. We have been over this many a time but it won't stop me pointing out you can have your super kiln dried logs but as soon as they come out the kiln they are going to start taking up moisture until they reach equilibrium with their environment and that will be 15%-20% if you live in the UK.
  13. Anyone got a heads up of what's in the final paper? Can't find the old thread on it so thought it best to start again. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46823440
  14. In the world of windsurfing the Wind Wizard is held in high regard but I just use a cheapy off Ebay. Perception of wind speed and reality can be quite different.
  15. Where is it going?
  16. You need to opt-out. Dead easy
  17. Tips covert perfectly just but most fall through the sieve! I do tend to cut off the worst of the spray. Still trying different things as not been at it long. As to the retort thus far avoided sharing it all as I have moments when I think it might make me a few bob and then there is the rest of the time haha. Not got any pictures to share at present but when I do they will go on here for sure.
  18. Yes, the ones I have had just have had either small metal brackets hooked over cage frame and screwed in or screws going through the metal into the pallet. Some of the wooden pallets need some extra slats as the gap in the middle can be too big and logs escape.
  19. Fine so far. It's just mild steel and been left out in the weather which has more destructive than the burns themselves. To avoid it rusting away stainless would be good but comes at a price but if I make a second I will probably give it a go. Could easily run two at a time so could be converting the best part of two cubes a day.
  20. I have to store them outside and the wooden pallets have a short life but easy to replace. Not had many problems with the metal ones apart from the odd knock while learning the ropes with the new loader. If you can keep them in the dry I would use the wooden ones as they give better ventilation.
  21. Will probably just post up my idea for others to copy if they so wish. Works fine just I would probably need CE marks to sell them and that could be tricky and not sure I have the heart for that sort of thing.
  22. Looks way too good to end up in a woodburner. Try posting on the woodcraft part of Arbtalk https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/forum/75-woodcraft-forum/
  23. They don't pull like a chipper. I did a test and holding the end you can stop it feeding. Quite handy when one end is too big to go through the machine. There is a safety bar that if you have a kill switch on the tractor you can wire it in.
  24. 10-12cm long at that diameter. You do get some smushed bits when the wood is twisty.
