  1. I went to view one at my local dealer, I thought that the head was really bulky in comparison to the petrol variant, so I didn't invest, still wondering what to do like you, will keep an eye on this post thanks welwell
  2. 24" for my 576xpg with a 8 pin drive sprocket and a large air box fitted to try and dial out the bogginess that blights this chuffing saw. The 25" bar had noticeable slower chain speed on a normal 7 pin sprocket, so much so that I went and bought an 18" to see what the difference was... Hope this helps you
  3. nice, Id like to see where my new dolly comes in a race with those two saws

    Old Verses New

I have a w reg landy and if I could have afforded a newer one, not been scared of buying into a shiny leak free thing then I would. All the money you spend in up keep, down time, IMO, is simply not worth it. You get to look at your business rsther than being constantly I it re sorting out knackered old parts which should be doing a job but all they do is fall off and cost you money. Old lanys an anagram for "buy newer Japanese....lol, god I wish I could
  5. Hi Jon, you had an 880, is it better than 395 for general big stuff or would you just have an 880 for milling? All the best
  6. I was in the same boat as you. Ask Shavey about the dolmar. It handles really well, nice balance and feel and rips through so well. I bought a 9010 and am well pleased. Ask him for a demo, very nice chap, he will sort you out no problem all the best
  7. 550xpg for warmth..... then hope the 261 is fixed now lol
  8. I started off with a Stihl ms 290, great saw, bit heavy for starters I know think. Try one that feels the best in your hands, something nice and light so you will find it easier to stick it where you want to! ms 241 ms 201 rear handle, or something which maybe cheaper, one of the entry husky saws 40cc+. If I started again I wouldn't go with an all rounder as when you get more into it you start picking up saws for the specific jobs you get. Enjoy good luck

    Dolmar

:thumbup:Thanks Andrew, fired it up just before it went dark. It has a bark and once warm its response is good, spinning up quickly. It seems light at the back sending its weight forward but balance is good and doesn't feel as nose heavy as my mates 660 with a similar bar size on. Side covers are metal, not what I am used to, gives a Tonka toy aspect to it like its going to last!!! Roll on happy days:biggrin: Big thanks again to Andrew for all you did in sorting this for me and Rob D/Lawrence for sorting the bar chain combo. I would recommend them to all here:thumbup:
  10. Spud,I hope this is the best place to ask? Ive just been reading about the work done on a ms150 in another thread and the thought crossed my mind to ask you if you can do something similar to my t435? All the best Nathan
  11. Hi Jon, Im sorry got no idea but griff at tyseley 4x4 will tell you if you give him a ring! cheers
  12. yes your right, I can see now its light, solid rears groved and drilled:thumbup1:
  13. lol no, the last owners never really changed the discs for years just pads so when Griff came to take the discs off with the hammer the disc sheared off the middle bit!!!!! They were changed as I kept on moaning that I was having to stand on the brakes to stop, especially with the trailer on at 6-7 tonne
  14. Drilled and vented all round Jon:thumbup:
  15. Hi Jon, Ive just had vented discs all round, Don't ask me what make they are, as wejust wanted "uprated brakes". Griff at Tyseley 4x4 in birmingham sorts my truck out as and when. Very accommodating, give him a bell on 0121 7067362. If you give him my name he will be able to let you know what he did. All the best Nathan

  20. I was just finishing a little job in someones front garden on Friday and a chap I know comes out and says , Have I seen whats going on, a few doors down? I listened for a while and the sounds of a small floor saw rings out, so I took a look. The rope looks like the blue nylon sort from a hardware store blowing around in the breeze. The scaff looks like its been done by someone whos been up them before. Not too sure what the plan is but Im going for a walk later to be amazed...:confused1:
  21. We have to fish it out of the pond(windblown willows) take down mature pops, plus others and drag out with tractors onto headlands, then I hope it will be burnt, just keeping the cord wood.
  22. this is fab thanks guys
  23. Cheers Stubby, How do you feel about the vibes on the 395? Is it just a case of, they are there so just get on with it, as they are relative to the power size cc of the 395 or is the 390 significantly smoother in its use? Is the 390 faster cutting than the 395? I can go with a 28", 30 isn't set in stone Many thanks:thumbup:
  24. I am trying to get my head into making a decision about a big saw for 28/30" work, so either a husky 395xp stihl 661 dolly or Makita 90cc as an alternative? not sure these two are in the same league as above?? but as an all day lighter option? I have read loads of previous threads, the take home comments being the husky is faster in the cut, the husky has less vibes. The 661 on paper, however, should be better the 395. that's it. So the confusion? Well I don't believe the paper figures, entirely, however but would love to be proven by anyone who uses said saws. last week I used my buddies 660, cutting pops and willow on a 30"bar. I found it heavy but balanced and really felt the vibes. it did keep on cutting through though. Impressive. So If I find that vibey what am I to make of the 395, should I be looking at the 390,/ dol/ Makita??? The 661 has half the vibes on paper as a 395 but folk are saying the 395 feels less than a 660. I am going to need a 28/30" bar for all day working soon on a big contract so, big wood, big saw needed. Its Pop, Willow, Birch Alder in difficult wet woodlands. Loads of standards and windblown to deal with, very excited and apprehensive at the same time. My local dealer is good for stihl and husky, says that Makita parts are slow to come through. They also said that older saws can become more difficult to service with parts. To add into the mix, the latest "edition" of the 661, is it ok now??? Its a lot of dosh to outlay, I have found that the husky 550 and 576 have made me some money, bettering my 290 and 261, so I am trying to say that, its important the saw works not wanting to start touch paper... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your thoughts
