  1. I don't know if Gabriel's found one yet, so drop him a line! A chance for fame and glory Books called Sylva have a habit of sticking around for a while...
  2. A cheap mobile phone hidden on your kit can be used as a tracking device. Not ideal, but it means you can find something if it goes. Otherwise, it might be worth a browse of the External Works catalogue: Security posts / bollards - Product profiles - on ESI.info
  3. I've used most at one point or another - I'll give you a shout the next time I need some! One small point - in my experience NOTHING is more likely to encourage people to start fires than advertising an extreme fire risk. These signs have to be used very carefully.
  4. Ask him to submit a plan showing each tree marked
  5. That looks very useful, thank you.
  6. There's at least one (and a good example, as well) at the Whitehall end of the Houses of Parliament. I seem to remember that they can be a little frost tender though.
  7. That's a good point. Irrespective of any legal position, the decent thing to do would be to help clear the mess up.
  8. Are there any regulatory constraints to draining wetland or converting permanent grassland to woodland in Ireland? Even if there are, 0.5 acres might not trigger anything anyway, but you may want to check. That aside, alder will work for you.
  9.
  10. I had a case a bit like this in storms in about 2005 - a tree failed next to a used car garage, damaging 2 cars (Jaguars I think). The end result - no foreseeability so the tree owner was not liable in any way. The garage owner's insurance had to pick it up. The situation with the handbrake is a little different. If it's truly an act of god, then the owner won't be liable, but chances are that either the owner (for not applying it properly or failing to maintain it) or the manufacturer (for fitting a faulty component) will be liable in some way.
  11. Not to worry mate, thanks for getting back
  12. I really like those - have you got any more walnut boards to sell? I'll take 2 if you do.
  13. I'd agree with that. If there is no foreseeability, your liability is limited (but possibly not negated).
  14. http://www.ceh.ac.uk/studentships/documents/StephenCaversCEHadvert.pdf It's geared towards climate change adaptation, but the findings will of course be relevant to epidemiology as well.

    Stunted Oaks

Sounds like it could be wind damage, possibly coupled with poor nutrient availability. What sort of soil is it? Exposed upland areas often have oaks like that, like this on Birk Bank near Lancaster
  16. I reckon that flavour could work (but then I'm part jock). I have some chili and plum jam at home, and chili chocolate is getting quite popular.
  17. If Cheviot can't help, try Alba. 38 pence per tree at 100+ http://www.albatrees.co.uk/plantspricelist I usually use one or other of Alba or Cheviot.
  18. I don't think that's the same as class though, unless class has a new meaning these days (which it may well have). Class (to me at least) is related to an obsolete way of defining people's position in society, largely determined by birth and something that can't really be changed throughout one's life. There will always be divisions in society as some people will be wealthy, others less so. Some people will behave in an anti-social manner, some won't. I don't see this as being the same as class. There are plenty of incredibly wealthy people, pulling all sorts of strings - influencing the press and politicians, manipulating the way we think and so on - who would probably never be described as upper class, yet they exhibit many of the characteristics of, say, the Victorian understanding of the term.
  19. I'll go with that.

    Creatine

I used to use it but stopped after reading more about it and talking to sports scientists. It bulks up your muscles, but only by storing water in them.
  21. That goes way beyond what was described in the papers that have been posted. Conventional wisdom (and experience) says that the trees will be seriously affected. Have you told the planning authority?
  22. I'm guessing biodiesel would make a good chain lubricant and would be less inclined to gum up the outlet than veg oil.
  23. Possibly as a result of its high level of palatability and the consequent level of browsing it can suffer.
  24. This is quite interesting: The clones of common lime.pdf
