    Face book?

    Big yellow machines
  2. I'll go with Orgel's second
  3. That's Meribel isn't it? I'm due to go there for the last week in March. I've done plenty of cross country before, but never Alpine. Looking forward to it!
  4. I agree, the subject isn't comparable - but I think the level is. Not quite the same (one is for professionals in practising the subject being covered, the other is essential professional knowledge, but from a separate profession). On the whole I feel I get more for my money with the IEEM, but there isn't a vast difference and they're different types of organisations. Different people with different desired outcomes from membership will see things differently - I am not saying one is better than the other.
  5. Yes, I suppose. To be honest, I was trying to find a peer reviewed article that reached the conclusion that most of us would expect - but without much luck.
  6. Someone I know is looking for a woodland near London to run a survival training day. He's a professional at this sort of thing, not just some walt who'll make a mess of your woods. Here's what he wants to do: He hasn't been too specific on location but within about 20/30 miles of the M25 is probably what he's looking for. If you think you might be able to help and need any further information, ask away and I'll get answers for you. Thank you.

    Help

I can't believe some of the replies! I used to work with a guy (I'm sure some of the Arbtalk members from Lancashire/Manchester will know him) whose father had his head cut off by a shattering blade. His wife came home and found the dog faithfully sitting next to the decapitated body.
  8. Similar study with similar findings: FILL SOIL EFFECTS ON SOIL AERATION AND TREE GROWTH.pdf
  9. I like that turn of phrase
  10. Good answer. For the horse's mouth info http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/faq.htm#q7
  11. Probably worth mentioning it to the tree officer/planning officer. Someone's cocked up - either the developer or the LPA.
  12. Strictly speaking driftwood belongs to the owners of the right to wreck, so taking it without consent is theft. In reality? I can't see many people complaining, especially if you're not loading up a lorry.
  13. Meetings with Remarkable Trees by Thomas Packenham (aka The Earl of Longford) lists many of the notable trees of the UK.
  14. Start a thread with his name in the title? He's more likely to spot it that way.
  15. You shouldn't confuse class and wealth. Class is an irrelevance these days and it makes me laugh when you hear people from abroad saying things like 'in England where they have the class system'. We have wealthy people, we have poor people and we have people who are somewhere in between. I don't think this correlates very strongly with anything that would be described as class.
  16. ICF and Confor are currently working on a chain of custody scheme for plants, which will help people such as yourself to make informed decisions. Be careful using the word provenance - all it tells us is where the parent tree grew. Origin can be a more useful word.
  17. I've read parts of it (you can view it on Google Books) but I've never owned a copy. I might wait for the sequel, due out in 2013.
  18. How historic do you want to go? Sylva, or A Discourse on Forest-Trees and the Propagation of Timber in His Majesty's Dominions by John Evelyn written in 1662 is about as historic as they go!
  19. Am I misreading it? I couldn't see any reference to forward v reverse pulling power, just various figures for front axle lift tendency (which will all be measured when going forwards).

    Advice plz

Scrap Tapatalk? I don't access the site that much using my phone, but when I do it's straight through the web access. Have words with the person/people doing it?
  21. Good post, and I'll drink to that.
  22. Is 25 or 50% realistic? As a consumer rather than a producer I can see that people could be put off by a slight redcution in convenience but if you're up front about the lower quality a significantly bigger bag would win most people over.
  23. Thank you kindly sir, you are clearly a gentleman and a scholar. Loving your signature line by the way, that's really special. Especially the poor spelling. Have you looked up the word indigenous yet? Oh, and feel free to apologise for your wild accusation "You circumnavigated this inacuracy by cleverly manipulating my post, and then made it look like you had written it" when clearly the 'manipulation' was the result of your own ham-fistedness in post 11.
  24. New genetics project could help save the ash tree
  25. Easy answer - it doesn't doesn't say that you must have done any particular course. However, NPTC is recognised by the courts as being adequate, so your life is going to be a whole lot easier if you have it (or an equivalent) if something goes wrong and you end up before the beak having to prove that you had indeed received adequate training. Though I'll be the first to admit if you've done something stupid, the fact that you've had training is hardly an excuse! People can make their own choices as to whether or not to get formal training and certification, but ploughing your own furrow may turn out to be a risky strategy.
