  1. Couple of weeks ago I was about 25ft up a Willow tree doing a thinning and it started to get a bit windy with a bit of drizzle (Willows move a lot without any wind!), all of a sudden it started to chuck it down and the wind really started to pick up! I bombed it out of the tree and pulled my ropes down. As I was just about cleared up I heard the thunder rolling in. That was my note to get the hell outta dodge Jake
  2. Has anyone used or does anyone use this Echo model. Seems like it would fit the bill for the hedges i'll be cutting with it. Echo HC-1500 Petrol Hedgetrimmer | Buy online at Lawnmowers Direct Jake
  3. Right guys I need a bit of help. I am in need of a new hedge cutter as the old Partner one that I have is extremely temperamental with starting. I have a Ryobi long reach which can be used with three different attachments, now that is all well and good but when it comes to using the hedge cutter attachment it gets really awkward due to it's length. I was looking at getting a hedge cutter from the Stihl range but with their new policy I am unsure about this now. What I'd like to know is what hedge cutters would you recommend that are good value for money, not too expensive and are all together a good machine? Cheers, Jake
  4. I'n guessing these were pole climbing races?? What height were the poles?
  5. Yeah the guy that got the 11 second time went up again and got a 10.3 for a 50ft pole!! I am new to this but I am very happy with my best time of 15.8 seconds. Jake
  6. I'll be there on the Thursday as I am spiking up the big new pole. Jake
  7. Hi all. I was just wondering who is going to be at the Suffolk show this year?? Jake
  8. That was my thought too. One thing I have thought of is if it was attached directly onto the bridge? This would eliminate the strange positioning cenario.
  9. Yup I use that method too. Works a charm if you have some big logs too. Jake
  10. I also have an example of this on a Beech tree in a woods down my lane. It is the only Beech in the Beech woodland that has this type of bark on it. I will try to post a few pics when I get home. Jake
  11. I use eye to eyes on my 13mm Yale XTC plus. I have an 8 mm and a 10mm. I much prefer the 8mm Yale Beeline to the 10mm Yale Silverstreak. I use a Shwabich (think thats how its spelt) Prussic knot and find that works best with the 8mm but if you're using a VT hitch then both work well. Jake
  12. Yeah I need to order some locktight. I also changed the top screw to a bolt with a small washer and that is staying in now.
  13. Mine has been doing that recently too!! First it was just the top screw at one time. Then I was using it the other day, the side plate started to come off, the exhaust box started come off too and the top screw started coming out again!!!
  14. Hell yeah!! Alec are you going on the Saturday or the Sunday?? Jake.
  15. Yeah I jus looked it up and it is a Pirana. How do you set it up??? Jake
  16. Okay cheers that was the rough idea that I had. I have seen this video and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the figure eight that the cutter is using? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W08WlmOrmaY]Certified arborist, Jason Jones in action - YouTube[/ame] Cheers, Jake
  17. Hi All. I am very new to all of this so forgive me if this is a silly question. I know when chogging (and whenever using a saw from rope and harness) you must have two points of attachment. I know that when chogging you use your mainline and your flipline but how do you exactly use your main line? It may sound strange but I am curious because it looks like you are too close to the trunk to have a large system. Any pics of your set ups would be a great help to if this is possible. Hope I haven't made thet too confusing.... Cheers, Jake
  18. Yes sorry I meant the MK2 of the ZZ.
  19. I am currently in my first year of a two year college course and I have purchased all of my own climbing gear, my wallet was crying..... Jake
  20. Now that a few of you guys have seen this new Hybrid and are liking it, what are your opinions on whether or not to get the MK2??? Jake
  21. I guess you're talking about the Ropetek Sidewinder?? I believe that the thread is called "The Sidewinder Way"?? I haven't seen many videos of it but what I have seen looks very impressive and in a neat little package too! I have a 7m short line and a 3m Steel Core Flipling so I am not in the need of it at the minute but if you are looking into a new flipline/short line then take a look. Nice piece of kit in my mind. Jake
  22. I haven't used it but looking through the pictures of how to tie it in the knot guide there looks like there would be a lot of sit back before the cord becomes tight and the knot actually grips. I may be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. Jake
  23. Ha I got my pair of climbing spikes for only £30 so If I need to get a new pair of Gaffs they'll cost more that the spikes did in the first place.
  24. I'd definitely invest in a camelbak. They hold enough water for a days work and they are strapped on your back out of the way.
