Ropes

I use my ZigZag on Yale XTC Plus. Good rope with a bit of give in it but it is still 13mm. I Have heard that Yale Blue Tongue works exceptionally well on the ZZ and it is 11.7mm so it will self tend through the ZZ better. Ask Silky Fox what it is like to climb on with the ZZ and Yale Blue Tongue. Jake
  4. That looks to me like it would get very uncomfortable when up a tree. You want a harness that'll support your weight when sitting in it for a long time.
  5. I may be wrong but i don't think you can get any climbing harness for £60. Unless you are lucky and find one on ebay but I'd avoid that because the harness might be out of it's life span or might have something really wrong with it (LOLER failure)
  6. I started off with a 43m length of rope, (you don't need a long length), 2 prussiks and a Komet Butterfly 2 harness, and 2 krabs. For change overs i just used the other end of my rope. Now I have a bit more experience, i have a side strop (7m), pole belt, cambium saver, 6 krabs (including ones on pole belt), 2 1.5m split tails for blakes hitches, still have my prussiks but they don't get used much. On my main line I now use the Petzl Zig Zag. For a new climber i would definitely recommend doing what i did and start off with the bare minimum and as you progress, so will your kit.

Hi Andy,

I didn't see your Gopher thread till today so was unable to let you know that I would have been available for the job. You are located near to me so If you ever need an extra pair of hands (who has a full climbing kit and Ground saw) please contact me on 07547 457125 or [email protected]. I am currently on a Level 3 Forestry and Arboriculture course at college so I am only available for two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) (and any jobs on the weekends if you need a hand). I currently hold my CS 30 and will be taking my CS 31 in May. I have had a lot of experience with climbing at college and feel fairly confident in a tree. I am 17 years old, however I am 6ft 4 and up for a hard days work!

Feel free to contact me.

Cheers,

  8. I am a new climber and after using the normal prussik for a while I upgraded, (by quite a bit), to the Petzl Zig Zag. I use the ZZ with 13mm rope but everyone is saying that 11.7mm is absolutely perfect for it. It is a really simple device to use and I would recommend it it all climbers whether they have a lot of experience or are just starting in the business. It's a thumbs up for the ZZ from me. If you don't want to spend the money on the ZZ straight away then I would invest in a Hitch Climber set up. It is basically a rope and pulley version of the ZZ but at a much lower price. And I believe that it works the same on any diametre of rope.
  9. I recently bought a 357xp and after using a 346xp I absolutely prefer the 357. The 357 is a heavier saw but it does make up for it with the extra power which also enables it to run effortlessly with an 18" bar. I would definitely recommend the 357 over the 346 but if you don't need the extra hp for a larger bar then the 346 is still a great saw!
  10. Cheers, I have a prussik spare and i could always cut a short length off of my main line, now all I need is a pulley and a couple of maillons. Recommended pulleys???
  11. I was wondering if there would be a lot of wear if I were to use a normal cambium saver with maillon/krab through the rings and then a pulley on the maillon/krab with my rope though the pulley? It would be un-retrievable but would make climbing a lot smoother. What are your thoughts? Jake
  12. Cheers guys! My Husky now has a reserved place in the boot.
  13. Do we have to use our own chainsaw for the comps or are there going to be ones provided?
  14. Personally I think that it is just a copy of the TreeMotion harness which is known for being a great and comfortable harness.
  15. Cheers!
  16. Hi all. I was just wondering where I could get some Husqvarna T-shirts? I am finding them a bit hard to find. Cheers Jake
  17. Where would you say the best place to look for a pulley saver is? And at the best price.
  18. Optimal climbing weight??? What weight to the say is the limit??
  19. Thanks Ian! Where abouts are you based then?
