  6. subbie - not employed - big difference the employee will get new equipment as part of the companies H&S policy. the employee will be told to use the new equipment reality is they may not - keep the new ones for a while until they feel fit to change them. after a few years the employee may have several pairs of spikes in various stages of wear - does he give them back to the employer? what will they do - DISPOSE OF THEM or does he sell them to me - I think so - my conscience is clear

  9. stolen goods dont be ridiculous - they are given new sets as a matter of course they often have spare old pairs in good condition -

  13. doesnt suprise me - no strength loss in a splice - when I went to collage many years ago we were taught knots reduce the strength by upto 50% except a bowline which is considerably less. This was 25yrs ago mind I would like to know if there are any new knots since this time, that are better on strength?

  17. nearly right - the energy reserves of the tree - any tree, will drop significantly JUST AS THE LEAVES ARE OPENING the trees energy reserves will recover quite quickly when the leaves are open

  19. its almost trial and error for your first one - you have seen how its done but you are up there on your own and its a different world up there - no good making big mistakes - make small mistakes and learn
  20. not too bad really - callous build up on both elbows due to years of climbing I suspect not much pain in them thankfully
