  1. My thoughts, at risk of courting controversy, are that it would probably need a particularly careless / clumsy operator to necessitate type C trs and protective boots for every job and that there will be occasions where the PPE is more likely to be a contributory factor in an accident. Isn't it possible that wrapping yourself up in protective equipment and insuring against every possible eventuality is likely to lessen the personal attention and focus on doing things safely? Example - hot summer day, type C trs, sweating and not re-hydrating properly = earlier onset of fatigue, greater chance of mishap. Yes of course it's all manageable, start earlier, more breaks, remember to rehydrate but these are all consequences of 'having' to wear the PPE not examples of how the PPE may make the job safer. So in a straight forward climbing task how often are climbers really reaching down at such awkward angles as to necessitate type C trs? I wouldn't ask someone else to discard their PPE, but I have no problem doing it myself when I think it's appropriate.
  2. cross thread satirical humour..... You'll get 'moderated!"
  3. Depends on how late in the day it is......?
  4. They'd end up on the :beer chug: and we'd be none the wiser!
  5. There's been a thread on this (or maybe it was embedded in another thread about firewood, can't remember) Just from my own horrible, sweaty, cursing, never to be repeated experience....... Whilst it burns up lovely when seasoned, I wouldn't touch the bloody stuff even if someone gave it to me for free, in fact, I'd go so far as to say if a 'friend' wanted to give me Euc, I'd immediately and irrevocably remove them from my Christmas card list! The last batch I did had a twist and curve which meant it just wouldn't split by axe, hydraulic, wedge, smashing it against a wall, driving over it! The only glimmer of hope I could offer, if it is straight grained and not cut in too thick rings, and it is recently rather than long time ago cut - don't let it season before splitting, it'll turn to reenforced concrete - it'll make decent firewood but the effort required will make me run a mile next time! Good luck!
  6. An interesting read! So, in the absence of the elusive 'definitive answer', if the worst were to happen, I'd be taking a copy of this thread into court (unless it was me that shuffled off!)
  7. That'll be your RAF training kicking in then Jim? Old habits!! ✈💺🚖️🌇💵🍹💤☀️🚖✈️
  8. All true, but based on an assumption that it would be the only source of income rather than a sideline....
  9. The belly laugh starts @ 4.39!!
  10. Makes me laugh every time that clip!
  11. Lucky you have a broad back Logs. That's a considerable backlash (in terms of enthusiasm, but notably only from a few not many contributors) against what (I think) was a fair point you make and if I understand your point, you are agonising / considering what might be the right thing to do? If I understand the circumstances you describe correctly, I for one would not disagree with your potential position. A challenging issue with comparisons across many circumstances in everyday life. Should we "walk on by" or should we do what is considered "the right thing" (and that is massively subjective) Does our society lack the moral fibre to do the right thing? It's a different circumstance, but I too have a moral dilemma. I have passed a site daily for the past few months where it is obvious to the casual observer that H&S issues are dangerously flouted, misunderstood or ignored. It's construction not arb. As its developed, the dodgy work at height routines have progressed from being within the site to now adjacent to highway and footpath. If the decidedly dodgy tower were to collapse now it has the potential to fall in the busy road. Well, there is a council hub, police, fire & ambulance station within 200m of the site - how is it that none of those public sector employees have either noticed or taken any action to report the circumstances to HSE? Should I do it? I know it's a small operator earning a living but blatantly taking short cuts and saving costs. I also know that working at height & construction sector are high in the HSE accident stats. So I have a choice (a) do nothing and hope it doesn't affect me / someone I know or (b) report to HSE in the anticipation of potentially averting an accident but potentially negatively affecting the bloke trying to make a living. Walk on by or be a good citizen? Retreating into armoured bunker now in anticipation! (Seriously, fire away if you feel strongly one way or the other, I too have a broad back!)
  12. Sickening for sure! How did you not batter the person that was punting it?? There's only one type of person lower than the scum that sell hooky kit in the pub and that's the type that buy it!
  13. Is that court action completed yet and transcript available do you know Dean? Be good to have a read of the findings if they are available for public.
  14. The humble onion, a true champion! BBC News - Three cheers for the onion
  15. Persisting down all last night, persisting down all day, milling a Beech in the mud turned into a nightmare. Had to winch the trailer out, I'm soaked and covered in mud, kit is soaked and covered in mud. Tired and grumpy now 😠
  16. From Mrs J to 3yo daughter: horse box & LR. From me to 3 yo daughter: tractors & timber trailers. Let the battle commence!
  17. Just done the iPhone software 💻 update! It's the 🐕's Paul! ⏰ for a 🚿 then 🍻 and 📺!
  18. Shave off! It that sells at that price they'd be better burning £10 notes to keep warm!
  19. Just having a look through the accessories included, I've got a few of the sticky pads included, have you just used the sticky pad to fix to helmet or pad & strap? Sticky pad alone strikes me as having potential for getting knocked off in a crowded canopy??
  20. That's not a bad first try! I had a GP4 as a Christmas gift from Mrs J, I'd been looking at getting one for a while and she knew that. She then won it in the work raffle so it's a double bonus (I'd have been annoyed if she'd spent that much in a Christmas gift.) Any recommends on a helmet mount or just go with Google?? I'll get a vid up when opportunity arises 🎥!
