  1. What. Trying to catch last orders?
  2. They still have, but he's only seen passing at 60mph with lights flashing going somewhere else (probably for doughnuts)
  3. No argument there, but FFS lets stop skipping the first step and proposing another referendum. It's done! The people voted and whether they were poorly informed, voted for the wrong reasons, or whatever,it doesn't matter. You can't move the goalposts in the middle of the game and say it doesn't count. I don't think that anyone with an IQ above a single digit believes that it's going to be easy, that immediately everything will be better and we'll all be financially better off than before. But that's what we have democratically voted for, we've made our bed and no political shenanigans should be accepted to deviate from that path. If it's a mistake it's the countries mistake and we, as a democratic country, must live with it.
  4. So is an actuary one of those jobs that you get paid for, cock up and never have to accept any responsibility for doing it wrong? Oh dear, my error going to cost millions, but it doesn't matter all the suckers can carry the can.
  5. There's a fair proportion of the world's population that don't though! The disparity of our 'nice lives' to the poverty in Africa and Asia, the haves and the have nots, takes some reckoning.
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but after a general election, doesn't the wishes of the majority actually happen? We don't ponce about for years, ohming and ahhing, debating that the voters were misinformed and we should have another election until the politicians get the result that that want. Things might change after the wishes of the voters are carried out, then, and only then, can a truly democratic country vote again.
  7. That's not totally true. They'll stop you to remind you that you've forgotten to to put your seatbelt on or exceeded the speed limit by 4 mph -plenty of resources for that. Sadly it means that they then have to pick and choose what proper crimes then then have the time to investigate. So what it if it's a mans livelihood, he'll be insured (so we all end up paying in higher fees) so a crime number closes that case. A friends kid turned up one afternoon recently, he'd got home from school, the house had been broken into so he phoned the police (he's eleven). Both parents were at work and unreachable by phone - the police also tried. I went round to check that there was no-one still in the house and to wait for the police. Now knowing that a child was waiting and not knowing if the culprit was still in the house they turned up 26 hours later! Too busy!
  8. For some reason it hasn't inserted as a link, but it will paste and go, or copy and paste into the search bar.
  9. Not sure if this should be here or in the joke thread... www.joe.co.uk/politics/nigel-farage-condoms-200748
  10. Yeah, but don't get into trouble yourself. There's plenty of police resources when victims result to self help
  11. Welcome, don't worry we all learn something from questions asked, no matter who posts them.
  12. Not bovvered, he'll forget what he came for before he arrives! ?
  13. So the police now or less decide what is a crime and what isn't? And they wonder why people have so little faith in them. When I got stopped for no seat belt I asked if the officer honestly thought that it was the best use his time. Directive from the Chief Superintendent! Remind who funds them again!
  14. Unless there are some real extenuating circumstances, I don't think that there is. He/you would have to resubmit the application again, wait for a refusal and then appeal within the twenty eight days. Someone more knowledgeable than me will probably come along to say that I'm wrong
  15. Wait. Are you trying to tell me everybody's dead?
  16. If, or when, they are made in China, they'll be made to the spec that that company whose badge they carry demands. Labour costs will be cheaper, so higher profit margins, it's just economics. Chinese saws, own label and copies, are generally only really 'problematic' because they're generally made to the lowest cost possible and many are viewed as a disposable item.
  17. That is the exact image that I have in my head, of one particular member on here! Let's see who reacts
  18. A bit more information that I came across looking for something else. Don't ask me any questions as I haven't read it yet. I'm currently working on a planting plan where I'd ideally like to plant a few ash. Research and opinion is divided on the susceptibility of F. ornus, americana and pennsylvanica F americana. Has anyone any personal observations? Particularly in areas where it's really well established. ppa.12048.pdf
  19. Definitely a step backwards with the loss of Arboriculturists in the Appeal System. If I remember correctly the TO wanted me to go to appeal as a test case on 'nuisance' as the authority didn't have any procedure as such in response. They could deal with subsidence, but a drive and 'actionable nuisance' was a different thing. Mick Boddy was the inspector and ultimately I think that he took a pragmatic approach, even though it meant he loss of good, mature birch which was very prominent. Sometimes it just a case of a tree in the wrong place.
  20. Oldham has improved dramatically over the last few months, with a TO taking over all of the planning role. Kirklees (Huddersfield) will provide PDFs of TPOS the same day, as will Rochdale. Most of the Manchester Councils are likewise very co-operative.
  21. It seems that PINS isn't always consistent. A had a similar situation with a 'washboard' block-paved drive, the LA refused an application to fell because I hadn't shown that engineering solutions couldn't be used. It went to appeal and we won. In hindsight, I think that the LA could/should have done more to bolster their position. It feels like an imposition on the affected neighbour though, to undertake a 'short-term' solution where there's a probability that further regrading will be required. (depending on the age/maturity of the tree)
  22. Sorry Khriss, I'd disagree that they are hard to interpret. Have a look at some of David Humphries threads involving them. There's quite a few examples of their use in the canopy, although not so many of David aloft
