  1. Hi Ted. Many thanks indeed. I'm working on my workmate to invest in an Easy Lift Harness now - we're in the middle of sorting out a list of new equipment put some some money into!

  2. Jo-Bu? Do you mean Jo-Beau, who are a Belgian firm in Brugge, Belgium owned by Jozef Beauprez? Oops, just realised you mean these from Drøbak in Norway!
  3. Ted, thanks so much for the parcel that day before yesterday Already I've used the tool at least a dozen times and it is staying with my work trousers for use every day! Cheers man
  4. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
  5. This evening.... I just rewired one of my electric light ceiling fittings.
  6. And drinking. I actually think that people should go on a course to prove that they are aware of the health risks of drinking and smoking, and that they should have insurance to cover these risks. Anyone caught drinking or smoking, who can't prove their competence by producing a stifficate, should be prosecuted by the HSE.
  7. That's what I was just thinking - more to the fine that just the boss up the tree with a chainsaw.
  8. Have you now heard of talking? Just pointing out the error of his ways may have been enough to put an end to it. You don't need any sort of authority to do that, do you?
  9. Same here. The reason I have mixed thoughts is that neighbour who happened to "be trained in assessing chainsaw work" did nothing to reduce the risk of an accident happening at the time the bloke was up the tree, but instead saw it as an opportunity to score points. And the size of the fine is ridiculous - it's not as if John Holland, the company owner, was sending an untrained employee up the tree. John Holland was up there himself doing it. Stupid? Sure. But a fine of £4k + £2k costs!! My feeling is that the bloke "trained in assessing chainsaw work" had motives other than risk minimisation at heart!
  10. It could be due to atmospheric conditions - perhaps the signal is a little too weak at the moment, and the problem is compounded by the trees. But maybe it's nothing to do with the trees at all. Have a look here Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com and put your next door but one neighbours address, and you will be able to find out if your trees are a problem or not.
  11. Cable ties and gaffer tape - sorted Sorry, no help. We had tyre blow out on the chipper a while back on A27. It was very rainy and very dark! Jacked it up, went to take the wheel off and the nuts were seized. Soaked the whole lot in 2 stroke mix, waited, waited, waited and they were still seized. Eventually we got them to turn and 2 out of the 4 studs sheared off. Ended up pootling along at 30mph with 2 nuts holding the wheel on
  12. Also, satellite dishes don't have to be mounted on the house itself. I've seen many on stands close to the ground in people's gardens so they can be positioned to avoid line of sight obstructions. And they're often on the ground in conservation areas where they couldn't be mounted on the house.
  13. Well, I did see a couple of Golden Orfes through one the other day.
  14. Bet the ebay listings are genuine, and then the Gumtree scammer takes them from there.
  15. Out of curiosity, what, in your opinion, do you find rubbish about the Petzl helmets?
  16. Have you tried washing it? Shower and soap does the trick.
  17. How close are they to the Sky dish? Do they actually block the line of sight from satellite to dish? I know others are saying to just reduce them, but if they're a long way from neighbouring properties, and the only issue is that they're possibly (not yet proven) causing probs with Sky reception, then why should you reduce them? They're your trees, you like them. If every tree that was between a Sky dish and satellite had to be reduced, or if every building between sky dish and satellite had to be demolished, just because of Sky TV.... well, it's bonkers. What next? Potential loss of Sky TV reception as a valid objection for planning applications when a new house gets built?
  18. I use Petzl Vertex (not the vent one though). Nice helmet, comfortable, easy to clean.... Wouldn't be without it.
  19. We had this discussion with the neighbour of someone we were working for today. He's retired, doesn't like using cards and cheques and would rather pay for things with cash. The way he sees it is that if he wants to pay cash then that's his right to do so, and what the person he pays cash to does with it (stash it under mattress, spend it on fast cars and women, or be dead honest and bank it and declare the full amount to the tax man) is up to them. He was disgusted at the whole government interference, making out it's immoral to be paid in cash and all. However people get paid, the government still get their claws into it through taxes left right and centre. I'm sure most people who get some cash jobs will never have the financial resources to enable them to partake in the tax avoidance schemes of the rich!
