  1. Ollie, they're brilliant. We're switching to Husqvarna now after becoming disillusioned with the offerings from Stihl over the past few years.
  2. I don't think anyone should offer you advice on this subject unless they are an insurance professional with the relevant professional indemnity insurance.
  3. Last year I cut through someone's overhead BT telephone cable with a hedgecutter. Rather than tying a knot in it and pretending it wasn't me, I phoned up BT and got put through to Openreach, and explained what I had done to the phone line of an elderly and vulnerable customer. I told the customer what I had done and she was cool with it. The Openreach guy was out within half hour and the phone line fixed with a new bracket on the side of the house to increase the height of it over the garden by a couple of feet. All free of charge as the line was previously below 10ft high If it had been chargeable then my insurance would have covered it.
  4. Have a chat with your consultant about the steroids. They are usually given as part of treatment as they help to improve the effectiveness of chemo, and once you're on a high dose you must definitely NOT come off them straight away. Definitely worth speaking to the doc about it and mentioning the weight gain. You might find that the steroids cause your periods stop as well
  5. The whole thing looks like it could be a mare. I've just read this on Fleet Risk Consultants Blog, post 153 in the towing section from Nigel (the main man) "We retain a team of transport lawyers who also prosecute for VOSA, so we can so a bit better than “to the best of our knowledge”. Not all 4×4 are exempt as ‘Dual-purpose’ vehicles, you still need to check. The C1 and C licence (HGV) are not based on Unladen weight, but on permissible weight, so a Ford Transit GVM 3,500 kg is Class B and a Ford Transit GVM 4,600kg is Class C1, both have a Unladen weight below 3,500kg. So Fred cannot drive his Dodge on a B licence he needs a C1. The exemptions from driver CPC are very limited and in essence if you drive a C, C1, D or D1 vehicle as part of your job, you need to undertake CPC training. I have a company we use for such training which is European Driver Training Ltd, rather than Novodata. But it is personal choice. One other thing even the HSE and VOSA cannot change the basic rule of law of Innocent until proven guilty, but that is what I do for my clients. Regards Nigel"
  6. As far as I can tell, you ONLY need CPC if you are a professional bus, coach or lorry driver. Using a vehicle as part of your main work doesn't make you a professional bus, coach or lorry driver. And again, as far as I am aware, a LR and trailer isn't a lorry. I've just about had it with DVLA at the moment - the "medical experts" that they have who can't even read a letter properly....
  7. Where do you hire from? I have a few jobs in mind where that would be ideal.
  8. Tripod and winch, fencing spade, pick-axe. Often come out a lot easier than expected.
  9. Don't like to say it, but the steroids can be a nightmare after a few months. I was on very high dose (80mg/day) Prednisolone for half a year - docs trying to suppress my immune system - and the initial buzz of feeling great, not needing much sleep, feeling really aware etc, soon wore off as I realised it was having some effect I didn't like. You really need to keep an eye on appetite and make sure you don't eat more than usual. My weight went up by a couple of stone, but my face ballooned as well and I looked like it was about to explode! I also ended up with quite bad mood swings and weird vision. Keep a close eye on things and just watch what you're eating
  10. I like the look of that Snugpak bag. I've got Snugpak sleeping bags and they're top quality. I'm tempted now....
  11. Brilliant! Mine had "Christine" gouged in it - my GF for a few months after a french exchange
  12. Don't know if this is the right place, but it's sort of tree related as they're made of wood! My 12 yr old daughter is desperately seeking an old school desk with a lift up lid. She wants one to do up for a bedroom and to give her somewhere to do her homework. I keep seeing them on ebay, but they're often collect only and located miles and miles from Sussex. Does anybody here have one they no longer need, or maybe know someone who has? Thank you kindly
  13. Or consider online. See Buy Smoking Wood Chips, selling chips at £6.99/450g (that's £15.5k/ton). Be interesting to know how well they do out of it. They're run by Macs BBQ Ltd, who seem to be doing well.
  14. Same in all industries. Labourers on big housing developments/construction sites working their nuts off for £50/day, highly skilled carpenters traveling 30 miles each way to work on big developments for £120/day. Highly skilled bwankers having to get by on 6 or 7 figure sums. Sad.
  15. Did you enjoy having a go on a manly husky?
  16. Ya missed a bit.... where he said "F8, munters or 8 to reduce friction and your away". Could add RW in there too. Or bug or WHY.
  17. Easiest way is to get your groundy to catch it before it hits the ground!!
  18. Strictly speaking, it's only a 'fishermans' when used for joining two lines together. And when tied to an object it's a scaffold knot. Now I'm sure I said that on the other thread asking the same question about the ISC snaplock
  19. It's only a fishermans when tying two lines together. The more correct name when tying it to connect to something is a scaffold knot.
  20. I'll keep me eyes open down here. Huge bunch of travelers have just moved onto Saltdean Park, about 5 miles to east of Brighton. And the lovely little kids with them have already stolen scooters from outside the nursery there.
  21. We're looking at CIS at the moment. I'm currently self-employed, do my own tax returns etc, but working almost exclusively for one company. I invoice them, they pay me. However, because of the extent I work for them then I should be classed as an employee, with them paying my tax, NI, giving me paid holiday, looking after me etc. The company's accountant has suggested to the company that they pay me under CIS, which means they pay my tax, but I can still claim tax relief on all my expenses - I remain self-employed. The accountant said it makes it all more legit, and that HMRC turn a blind eye to the fact that the work isn't solely construction related. Sound fishy to me! It may just be that the company you did the work for does everything through CIS and that's how they wanted to pay you for simplicity.
  22. I think they're good. If you scan mine with your phone you can quickly put my contact details into your contact list. They're not just for the web. There are a couple of driving instructors around here who have them on their signwritten cars - makes it a doddle for someone to save their info.
  23. Haven't you got a 'tortoise and hare' lever on it? Which mower is it? We've use a Hayter with a Briggs and Stratton engine and it only sips fuel. Mind you, at the prices of fuel it's not surprising how much money gets spent on it. Just another cost that you need to factor in doing business, and why it's pointless mowing a lawn for a fiver.
