  1. The zombies always seem to be far less stressed out than the people trying to escape them. If you can't beat them, join them.
  2. It's well worth looking through the pictures on Flickr here Flickr: The Eaten by Trees Pool. They give you a good idea of the sorts of dangers you might come across
  3. I was thinking the same and almost posted this before dinner, but I know nothing so didn't
  4. The 150DW is 6inch I think (150mm, and I saw mention of 6 inch timber). The 200DW is prob the 8 inch, what with 200mm being 8 inches and all. Wouldn't mind seeing one in the flesh.
  5. No, dying trees haven't been reclassified as dangerous. Dying trees are still living. And I don't think the 'dying' classification was misunderstood - it was just often abused. Worth reading the "exceptions" The Town and Country Planning (Tree Preservation)(England) Regulations 2012
  6. Several times I have been asked if I've been certified:confused1:
  7. Carve a handle out of a nice piece of oak.
  8. 300mm/pi is approx 100mm, or 4 inches. The diameter from which a TPO can apply is 75mm (3 inches), init?
  9. Tree pots are handy. And the 1T bulk bags are handy too - as others said, use common sense and just don't overfill them. They also work well for catching cats when they fall out of trees.
  10. Why does everyone assume that 'cheating the system' is a huge problem? There is a small minority who cheat the system. Across all benefits, the percentage of total benefit expenditure overpaid in 2008/9 was estimated at 2.2%, with a percentage of total benefit expenditure underpaid of 0.9%. Benefit fraud is a pi55 in the ocean which is made out by the likes of Cameron to be a cause of the downfall of our country. He uses it to turn people against each other. In any other situation, an organisation would be patted on the back for getting something 98% right! Sure, cheating the system is something that shouldn't happen, but that doesn't mean the system isn't fit-for-purpose. The majority of people are honest and have no intention or desire to cheat the system. It's just the that the country's leaders would like everyone to believe that those who are in receipt of benefits are low life scumbags - it's just not the case at all.
  11. You're a funny bunch sometimes, condoning free-climbing 60ft trees, when at other times you're slagging anyone off who dare mentioned they'd climbed without a rope!
  12. Ear plugs don't suck at all, imo. The problem with ear defenders and the chipper is that ear defenders seem to let a lot of the low frequency noise through, and most chipper noise seems to be that low frequency rumble. Ear plugs seem to me to be much more effective at cutting those low frequency noises out. I bought hundreds of pairs of Uvex flange type plugs, and hundreds of the 3M foam ones - all dirt cheap, and always to hand.
  13. Stuff him. He's obviously a tight arse like all the others who don't pay properly. Pay for the subby should be taken into account with the initial quote, and it should be a proper amount. There are always people happy to work for peanuts, and always people who think it's ok to pay peanuts. It's not just in arb, but all the manual work industries are crap for this sort of thing. What Andy said is spot on.
  14. I had a failure on a Nifty 120 - one of the microswitches or something conked out when I was at max height and rotated 90 degrees. It wouldn't rotate back and I couldn't lower down as I was over a building and a fence. Mate had to manually rotate the thing first. Soon as it conked out it dawned on my that I could have done with an abseil kit with me so I could at least get down to the ground!
  15. Have you tried Abbey Pro? Or Up and Under? Up and Under list them as in stock. As do Anglo Access. And Rescue Supply.
  16. He uses it for hedgecutting
  17. PMSL, that's a blinder
  18. Exactly. I can't be arsed worrying about it anymore. We've got more work than ever at the moment and can't be having completely busting a gut just to beat a cheap quote. For all we know he might have even made up the two Polish worker story to try and get us to offer to do it in half a day! As it is, I've got a one and half day (possibly less) fencing job for next weekend that'll see me £600 up instead, on top of earnings for this coming week - 4 x 3m bays of closeboard and one 3m x6ft high trellis section Flippin' doddle compared with 50m yomp carrying hedgecuttings out of garden with bad access!
  19. Big problem with MEWPs is that if hiring one, you have no idea at all whether a previous hirer could have overloaded it leading to a failure waiting to happen.
  20. Not in tonight's set. Great song that is, but I had the Vulgar Display of Power CD in the player. Transports me back to nights of moshing at the Hungry Years down here in Brighton Brilliant place that was for metal heads, but it's no longer in existence and a g** bar is in its place
  21. Pantera tonight, max vol in the motor while going to collect daughter from a party...
  22. I priced a job yesterday - 2 blokes, one day, remove all waste from site - fella wanted 2ft reduction on a load of hedges, and everything taken away. It was a big job, much more than half day so priced in for day to be safe. He then told me that when he had the hedges done year before last, they were trimmed by 2 Polish blokes who knocked on his door and quoted him £200, all waste away, and they were done in 4 hours. What the fella wouldn't understand is that there is a difference between a 2ft reduction with waste away, and a trim with waste away. He also couldn't get to grips with the fact that it is costing us money to get rid of his waste, and that we are paying tax and insurance and everything else. This fella had a brand new Range Rover on the drive. There's no dealing with some people - they try and compare prices when they're not getting like for like quotes.
  23. That one from Poland in your original link also has a Husky/Zenoah label. And like I said, is identical to the one on the Zenoah web site. Rip off saws are usually pretty different. Maybe worth emailing Ekosiarku and getting a feel for what they are like. Things are cheap in Poland. In general, look at price here and then halve it. Pack of fags €2.50 to €3.00 (compared to £6 - £7 here). Same with beer and everything. Expect the same applies to machinery too, considering their wages are half of ours as well..
