    Saving water

Hi, Im not sure on UK regs, but our plumber said this was fine, theres a non return on the domestic supply which is at about 5bars pressure so no chance of back-wash. I suppose you could always remove the flexible & connect separately if considering something similar. N

    Saving water

Hi Steve, oh yes, weve used a bucket also! Yes, did think about raising tank but was going to end up looking daft outside, Its not too complicated although the wiring is a mess it powers a few of other things as well, anyway: The delay off relay we used is 12Vdc Delay Timer Relay Module - 1 to 180 Second | Quasar CI001 This is connected to a 12V supply, with a normally open push switch that connects across the two trigger connections when pushed, this then changes a set of relay contacts to switch on the pump. So when using the toilet, it gets flushed, pressing the push switch triggers the countdown timer to initiates filling, it cant be over-filled because of the float valve & the pump is OK to run on a 'dead head' which only lasts a couple of seconds. been flushing rainwater for over a week now & works a treat! Show us yer cock!

Hi, Not sure what breed he is, but was given him along with a hen about 2 years ago, Certainly cock a doodle doos well & keeps the cats away. Ill take another pic soon as the one I posted is quite old N
  4. Hi Pete Saw one of our 73 YO neighbours in wellies & mandatory French blue 'safety coat' (not) on the roof of almost tumbledown barn with chainsaw cutting through various beams in the rain! Just noticed your avatar pic looks iike a Mairie office with the French flag in the background. N
  5. Hi all, Completely arrogant attitude to allow a tree to fall on a house, the Mayor should always be the first port of call in any dispute. Ive heard several stories of various degrees of stupidity of people attempting to fell trees, including one where someone fell out of a tree with a saw & worse. I have yet to witness anyone wearing PPE when using a chainsaw in France, seems a casual disrespect for personal safety, we much prefer to use the appropriate PPE & have enough sense & training to cater for the obvious hazards from past employment. We had a large pine on the lean, near a neighbours garden may have hit the house if it fell & our plan was to safely dismantle it, which I did without any problems, our neighbours thanked us & the Mayors 'jack of all trades' employed by the commune congratulated us on a difficult job well done. Considering the weather weve had then it may well have fallen or snapped where it was rotten. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/67360-pine-takedown-fairly-dangerous.html However, Ty is right, there are a lot of English with large old houses that need a lot of TLC who havnt accounted for fluctuations in exchange rates & eventually run out of cash without the ability to take on the work them selves, whereas our escape was planned differently. All I can say is it wouldnt happen on my watch & I hope the house holder sorts it out. N

Beat me to it, although I tend to agree, it does seem a tad rough N
  7. Hi, We have a 1990s tractor mower with 15Hp B&S engine, left in barn all winter, went to cut lawn the other day & started first time even though the battery did not turn the engine very quickly. Certainly can't fault it, pulls well even with a loaded trailer. N

    Saving water

Hi Steve I have now fitted a delay off timer, this means that one push from a momentary switch triggers a 12V relay which changes state, connecting the NO & C contacts to start the pump & commence the countdown timer - so it runs the pump for about 2 minutes which is the time taken to fill the cistern. 12Vdc Delay Timer Relay Module - 1 to 180 Second | Quasar CI001 N

    New 550xp

Hi, Nooo - anything but fiddly flippy caps even if they do work. Unless they are nickel/chrome plated by some ridiculously expensive 'pimp my saw' supplier! N
  11. Hello, No one is going to mess you around, there are some very good, genuine & generous people on this forum. However, you do seem somewhat presumptuous - people are not always hovering over a computer waiting for the next message. Please be patient & Im sure something will turn up, good luck in your search. Hi, Can I just say that as far as 'saw porn' goes, that floats my boat Thankfully these winter evenings are shortening! N
  13. Hi Good work, I also thought the groundies cutting stance was not quite right, but may have been distorted by wide ish angle lens N

    LEZ london

Hi Sounds like a cash cow to me & nothing to do with emissions, you still see plenty of taxis & other vehicles making smoke. I daresay they would enforce it to the letter if the opportunity arose, our 1995 Landie is probably banned but its French registered - ha! N
  15. Hi, Thats great news to hear HS, thanks for the update. Bon courage et bon sante N
  16. Hi, If you have a website then a link to Fb is useful as you can easily post new content on Fb. This then backlinks to your website which will improve its search rankings N
  17. Hi, I applaud your actions, I trust Fleabay has the gal to support you & track down the sellers & deal with them Bon chance & Im sure theres a few spare guillotines over here that could be put to good use. N
  18. Hi Dean, Thank you for posting, interesting information. We have also used candle wax to protect bark damage from insect & other ingress to some degree of success. N
  19. Hi All governments ability to waste money is legendary, however Gordon Brown set the 'Gold Standard' for wasting money with his sale of 400 tonnes of gold to China at 297USD per ounce, £9Bn down the toilet, what a clown. They should stop all foreign aid & spend the lot on flood defences, committing to at least 1Bn a year that would create worthwhile jobs & re-vitalise areas & it should be done properly to last for +100years minimum, not patched. N
  20. Hi, Indeed, there has been a complete lack of thinking, joined up or otherwise. I know the levels & yes, one could say its silly to live on a flood plain, but the UK is very densely populated & building land astronomically expensive, its about 25 Euros a metre here, so a nice sized building plot is around £20K. However, in this day and age, when one can land a man on the moon, it seems pathetic that the UK fails to adequately control flood water, particularly after the last 5 years. N
  21. Hi Good informative post, thank you Am I correct in my understanding that every 3dB change doubles increasing or halves decreasing the noise as its a logarithmic scale? N
  22. Hi 1 metre = 39.4 inches therefore each board is 39.4 * 39.4 * 1 (thickness) = 1552.36 cubic inches 1 cubic foot = 12 * 12 * 12 = 1728 cubic inches so each board is 1552.36/1728 cubic feet or .89835 so to approximate each board = 0.9 cubic feet N

    Saving water

Hi I was somewhat concerned that may be asked as our bathroom is somewhat rustique... Anyway first pic is the water catchment (the black stuff is from Rape seed oil now cleaned) complete with 12 V supply & bend going to flexible. Next up is the power supply, solar panels feed to regulator & battery, I used a double pole 20 Amp relay (centre left) with 20 A fuse as pump takes 12Amp on 26Amp cable. The black lead hanging down energises the relay when switched & is fused 2Amp on 10Amp cable. Scruffy, but all fused correctly with correct cable diameters etc, its an ongoing experiment. Next some valves on a board quite a bit of soldering and fairly neat - an isolation valve in case I have to drain in cold weather & also a second connection for an accumulator for when we eventully connect the well - its quite a trench to be dug, but will do it eventually. Finally the bathroom, complete with 70's orange tiling 230V socket (we have ELCBs so quite common here) & down pipe all to box in. The pipes here are plastic & the feed from rainwater is on the left - mains water & non return valve - two black blobs after isolation valve on right. All a bit Heath-Robinson at the mo but it works well. Final one is of prettier side of house, just for interest N

    14" chain

I'd keep the chain sharp & clean out the air filter, If I clean mine it makes quite a difference on my MS250. Failing that consider a 12" bar, a friend has two 181s on 12" & they cut really well. N
  25. Hi I would leave it a good while to dry, although some wood you can burn a bit green-ish like Ash, I prefer to give it 12 months or more. You may like to consider a CO monitor with an indication display as well as high level alarm like this: [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kidde-Battery-Premium-Monoxide-Digital/dp/B0030BEM0K/[/ame] Re-assuring to see the indicator on zero as CO very dangerous N
