  1. Some threads are rubbish, with false information being given, but others are precise and informative. I can't quite see how it could be done, but it would be great to bookmark the best and most informative threads in some kind of reference library.

I'm with Ray on this. I will bet that the saw has been in the hands of an inexperienced operator who has not only left it ticking over with brake on (which should do no harm) but has actually tried using it with the brake on. It doesn't take long for this to happen.
  4. I second that. I am sure that those of us who try to advise, on whatever subject, are not looking for any praise, but sometimes you wonder if any one has benefited. And then you wonder "why bother?"
  5. Strange place to put yours, did you have a hole in your trousers Dan? My wife refuses to stitch ours on, and I dont ever sew, so there are 4 more up for grabs if you have any other holes to repair:biggrin:
  6. Any news?
  7. We say the OP did not contribute much, and that is fair enough, it was his choice, but why he felt the need to 'leave' the forum rather than just not bother to log on, is a mystery. As a matter of interest, how many of the 17000 members actually post anything on the forum?
  8. Not quite true. The contract of sale is between the customer and the suppyling dealer. It is the dealers responsibilty to repair it and get reimbursed from the manufacturer. Some manufacturers insist that their dealers repair any of their product, even if they did not sell it. But some manufacturers state that the selling dealer assume sole responsibility and must not imply that any other dealer will repair carry out warranty work. I am a small independant specialist dealer and will only take on warranty work on goods I have sold, unless I choose otherwise. Why should I clear up someone elses mess?
  9. Even more impressive when you realise its a left hand drive.
  10. reckon he means this one! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMyFUGdRjUY]Delivery truck turns it around on a dirt road on the side of a mountain - YouTube[/ame]
  11. Good luck Richard, keep positive.
  12. A local farmer built a 'pole barn' on skids. He reckons its mobile as he can shunt it around with his tractor a few feet at a time. He has got away with it so far!
  13. Everything you ever wanted to know about seals. Radial shaft seals - SKF.com/Products
  14. Have the valves been adjusted? They need to be done early in life with a 4mix, otherwise they don't start!
  15. You will need a Nova 2 Solid state ignition unit . I have used them successfully, but not for many years now. I found these instructions on the web, you might find them handy. http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/images/novainst.gif
  16. Mike, the size is 12x32x7 if you need to get one from a seal supplier.
  17. If the saw was OK when you bought it you would have to be a long way from 50:1 to cause this. The Rock oil is actually tested at 80:1. I bet it was dodgy to begin with, that is why it was on the bay. But the damage is done. DO NOT use the saw again. It will only get much worse, quickly.
  18. Coil part number 0000 400 1300, fits many saws up to 640 Rich. RRP 67.07 plus vat by the way
  19. Really? I find that it is impossible to get spares for many machines without serial numbers as there are often 'up to' and 'after' options. Having said that, although we record numbers of all sold machines, we only take serial numbers of repair work machines if we need to get parts. Maybe we will change this and keep them all from now on, although it is often a pain finding the things, especially when they are on stickers rather than engraved.
  20. I suspect this is not quite as hypthetical as it sounds. If you refuse and they go on their way then the dilemma is over. If you take it in and then inform the police, then the hole thing could get messy.... but its probably the correct thing to do. You may look it bit foolish if its all above board though. So, in short, my help is no help at all.
  21. Nice amount of work there Rich!
  22. I guess there are dealers, and there are dealers. Good and bad in everthing.
  23. Quite so. Or they could make the stuff better, so that it does not need warranty work. I sell a lot of Tanaka kit but doubt I do one warranty claim a year.
  24. Saw a window cleaner/ carpet cleaner guy in cornwall called "spruce springclean"
  25. Yeah, of course there are always exceptions. I can usually tell within the first few minutes with the customer whether I want to help him. Some are decent folk who knew no better than to buy from wherever they did. Some of these have taken them back to the shedstore and got their money back, then come into me to buy a proper machine.
