  1. Slowly rising. Now 702 signatures. Thanks to those who have signed. For those who have not, here is the link https://www.change.org/p/government-...share_petition
  2. Are you sure its locking internally? A very common fault on these machines is that one of the 3 torx screws which hold the magneto mounting plate to the crankcase comes loose and unscrews until it locks the flywheel. Just look under the flywheel and you will see it clearly. Remove the flywheel to tighten them.
  3. clutch drum part number 125331-7 and the RRP is £18.00 plus vat
  4. The Nova unit will certainly fit your machine. The current RRP is £16.70 plus VAT
  5. Hi Mike Basically this is an electronic "trigger" that is activated when the magnetic flux of the magneto reaches its highest potential. At that point it "switches", allowing the primary winding field to collapse (just like points) and fires the plug. As you said, these were the early electronic ignition units before the 'trigger' was built into the coil. You can buy Nova, or Atom units to replace yours.
  6. I have sent a letter of support to your cause to the Minister, Eddy. 'United we stand'
  7. These crimes are getting all too common these days. Sure, extra security in the way of strong walls, roofs and doors is good, as are alarms and cameras. Booby traps, whilst very tempting should be avoided. Just suppose you had a fire and a fireman was injured when entering your property? The only long term solution is to make it difficult to market the stolen items. The easiest way to achieve this is to make every machine easily traceable. Traceability can help in several ways. Imagine police doing a random check on a dodgy van. They find saws in the back but can only suspect they are stolen. The van driver claims they are his and the police can do no more. Now imagine a time where the police can instantly access a comprehensive data base of equipment and match serial numbers to the rightful owner. They now have sufficient evidence to hold the driver. Another way the traceability could work, is if all sellers had, by law to advertise their equipment for sale with the serial numbers stated, and the potential buyer had easy and instant access to the same database as used by the police. This would help to make it very difficult to dispose of stolen kit. OK, there will always be other ways, but if we remove the biggest part we make it more difficult and thefts will drop. We already have the database right here, on this forum in the form of ArbSafe, all we need to do is register our kit on it now. When Arbsafe becomes the one and only comprehensive database of serial numbers and owners it will be invaluable to both the public and the police in ensuring that stolen goods are not marketed. As we have seen on this thread, most of you have a record of your serial numbers, but they are no good to anyone if they are in your office drawer. Spend a few minutes now and put them on ArbSafe.
  8. Thanks to all the recent posts. Keep them coming guys.
  9. I used to see a lot of these E start springs bent and was fairly sure that they bent because operators were trying to start them with the gorilla type tug normally used on standard starters.
  10. Tried the pliers today. Did not like it. The reason was that the pliers are much thicker than my screwdriver, presenting a round profile as opposed to my flat one. This meant I could only catch a very small amount of spring onto the edge of the recess before extracting the pliers. This made it much more likely to have the spring pop out before being able to push it fully down. But I have to admit it would be my second choice and most people are more likely to have long nose pliers in their box than a screwdriver like mine.
  11. I usually like the last word, but in this case you win:biggrin:
  12. I imagine you are struggling with the next imaginative use of the word 'imagine' Stubby.
  13. A good generalisation ADW, but as you will see in the video, I drew particular attention to the shape of the screwdriver and that it fits INTO the spring. With an insertion of around 10mm, there is no way that screwdriver will slip. There is also evidence on the video that experience has taught me to be careful:biggrin:
  14. Cant imagine how I can find the next line:confused1:
  15. imagine that:lol:
  16. You are welcome.
  17. I cant imagine what you mean!
  18. Imagination is great!
  19. Not a fan of chemical metal myself, prefer proper engineering. But there is plenty of room for helicoiling, I have safely taken them out to 6mm threads if needed. If you do need to go to 6mm you have to drill the exhaust and the gasket. Have to use an m6 allen screw as the m6 stihl torx screw wont fit down the exhaust pipe recess.
  20. No problems, get helicoils fitted.
  21. I find that most of my "Pro user" customers will not have their saws fully serviced, but just bring them in for running repairs. And if repairs are likely to cost more than a couple of hundred they would sooner buy new.
  22. Good luck with that, they are recessed about 30mm into the exhaust!
  23. Wow, One reason I use Aspen! New carb needed,no point in cleaning that one.
  24. But there is no harm in keeping to the brands marketed for the job, even if REDLINE is just as good. The stuff its mixed with causes more problems than the oil anyway.
