  1. Any ideas how? Its in all our interests.
  2. The petition was started by Axel of Anglo American Oil some months ago. Why he chose to use change.org as opposed to the 'official site' is a question only he can answer. I assume this is a valid petition, or do you know otherwise?
  3. 516 views of this thread and only 50 signatures???? Maybe each of us has viewed 10 times??
  4. This is going well, but still slow. Only 50 signatures since posting the thread. How can we get it to really go??? still need 9477 signatures
  5. Already have Eddy, but as I only have 46 'likes' it aint going far! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Garden-Kit/741919342491375?ref=hl
  6. I have just noticed there are over 500 'guests' viewing the forum at the moment. Dont forget that you are all very welcome to sign the petition as well.
  7. Stands at 490 signatures. 14 up on an hour ago.
  8. I know many of you have already signed, especially the Aspen users. But there are still less than 500 signatures and we need another 9500 to get this before the government. All operators of small engines will, in my opinion, be looking to using Aspen or similer fuels when the ethanol in fuel rises to an unacceptable level. Which it certain to happen. So even those of you who have never considered the use of alkylate fuels could help to bring the future price down. You may want some one day, so please don't leave it to others to campaign for a reduction in tax.
  9. And today I had one of the most meticulous customers I have ever met. He brought his hedgecutter in for its "100 hour service" (his words) I asked him how he new it had done 100hrs. His reply was that he logs every use in a little book. Date and duration of use.
  10. There are currently over 20000 Arbtalk members. Only half that number of names are needed on the petition to the government to remove the Road Fuel Tax on the new generation Alkylate fuels. I appreciate that many of you have no desire to use these fuels (Aspen and Motomix) at present, but that may change in the future as the ethanol percentage of pump fuels rises and more small engines are harmed. So, just in case you may want to use Alkylate in the future, why not sign the petition now. With 10000 signatures the petition can be presented to the government for consideration of removing the 58p per litre Road Fuel tax which is currently responsible for £2.90 of every 5litre can. Arbtalkers alone could bring about this change. That would be amazing. https://www.change.org/p/government-uk-abolish-road-fuel-duty-on-garden-power-tool-specific-alkylate-petrols-designed-to-protect-users-from-harmful-emissions?recruiter=92753060&utm_campaign=mailto_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
  11. Thats a cracking good idea MW! I will start a thread later.
  12. I suspect you may be right Rigger, but it will not hurt anyone to sign it even if they have no intention of using Aspen at the moment, the time may come when they will. In a few years, when the Ethanol in pump fuel exceeds 10% there will be little choice but to use an Alkylate fuel as most of todays saws will simply destroy themselves on pump fuel. Let us pull together to get the tax removed now.
  13. A chap came in the shop yesterday with the chain hanging off the saw. "have only used this a couple of times and the chain has come off, I want you to fix it" So I asked "have you been keeping it tight?" The answer was "I tried, but the adjuster screw just clicks round, does not move the chain" "You were slackening the bar nuts??" "err, No. Should I have to?"
  14. The petition to remove the Road Fuel Duty from Aspen is gaining signatures very slowly. This surprises me, as if it were to happen the price of a 5litre can would fall by £2.90 making it only around £16.00. So come on guys, if you have not yet signed it please do so, its really easy to do. Just visit https://www.change.org/p/government-uk-abolish-road-fuel-duty-on-garden-power-tool-specific-alkylate-petrols-designed-to-protect-users-from-harmful-emissions?recruiter=92753060&utm_campaign=mailto_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition The petition needs just under 10000 signatures. There are around 20000 arbtalk members. Arbtalk could do this on their own, we have already proved that we can do great things when we all pull together.
  15. There have been some Oleo Mac machines marketed by Mountfield over the years, but not many. Echo is most definately not Mountfield as Echo is handled in the UK by Countax.
  16. I checked with the TNT driver this morning. They carry items up to 3.6metres for account customers.
  17. BAGMA is the short name for British Agricultural and Garden Machinery Association. This is a trade association to which most Ag and Garden machinery dealers will belong. The Bulletin is their bi-monthly dealer magazine.
  18. There is an excellent half page editorial on Arbsafe in the new Bagma Bulletin. This will help to make dealers aware of the register Steve. Maybe its an ideal time to follow through with some sort of Dealer Counter Pack to promote Arbsafe to customers buying kit.
  19. Its not a bad idea to give the saws a once over from time to time and change suspect fuel lines etc, even if not changing fuel. So its an ideal time for a bit of maintenance when changing to Aspen, and I can't fault anyone who wants to change the fuel lines. But equally, I do not want anyone put off changing to Aspen because they think there saws are going to need 'conversion' or are going to fail because of shrinking hoses. As Eddie says, it can happen, but it is by no means the norm. Most changeovers go without a problem. I currently have 2 old McCulloch saws which, a couple of years ago I just could not tune correctly on pump petrol, without costs of pulling down carbs and changing hoses. The customers both opted for new machines rather than spend out, so the old McCs were fuelled on Aspen as an experiment and still did not run properly so I put them to the back of the workshop as they were to good to chuck. Last weekend I needed a saw to fell a 30ft Leylandii in my garden so I dug these two saws out with the intention of doing the carbs, but they both started instantly and ran perfectly, much better than when put away. No leaks, or problems.
  20. But thats a bit of an overkill. It depends on the type and quality of rubber. For instance the Stihl green stuff is just fine, as is the Stihl smooth black tube. The old black moulded stuff may fail, but lets face it, it fails with petrol too. If you are competent in changing fuel lines if necessary, I suggest you change and see how you get on. I have switched thousands of machines to Aspen with only a few dozen failures of hoses. The ones that have failed have mostly been just a bit leaky and easily fixed.
  21. split/cracked fuel hose blocked internal gauze filter split impulse pipe they will all cause these symptoms.
  22. Maybe Redline is good, but Aspen is more than adequate. In fact its brilliant. And... I like an easy life. No mixing.
  23. I get where you are coming from Stubby, but as Eddie says the Aspen 2T oil has been formulated to completely bond with Aspen fuel to give lower emissions. And, as there is only 50p difference in cost between Aspen4 and Aspen2, is it really worth the hastle and time of mixing your own?
  24. Strangely, the Aspen site has the price wrong, but only slightly. The actual RRP is £18.98 per 5 litres (inc vat) I have heard that some dealers consider the margin is insufficient so mark up the price, but these dealers are the minority. The normal practice is to sell small quantities at RRP but offer a small discount on purchases of maybe 9 or more cans. A full pallet would normally attract a higher discount. A minimum of 3 cans could be delivered for a delivery cost of £24.00, adding £8.00 to each can therefore making them £26.98 (RRP plus delivery)
  25. So, did you order it anyway Bob? Is the Royal Mail cost to Mull the same as anywhere else in the UK, if so this thing is so small it will go small parcel at, I think, £3.50.
