  1. Nice one Rich. Did you balance them on a passing seal?
  2. We are an earthy bunch in the West Country, we call a spade a spade and a terminal a nipple.
  3. Given the intermittant nature of the problem I would firstly check that the plug cap is firm on the plug and that the little nipple on the top of the plug has not come unscrewed. Only after checking that need you look for more sinister problems.
  4. Its a 20mm open ended spanner thats needed, and if the old one is tight you may need to ensure that the spanner is 'sharp', i.e no rounded edges, as the plate (nut) is very thin. Sorry Richard, but I agree with the others on the loctite issue. No need. Loctite is often used as 'belt and braces' where there is absolutely no need and it just makes future work difficult.
  5. Now I want to take my boat too!
  6. The 'best' will depend on several factors. Do you want a roller, or 4 wheels.? Self propelled or push? What wiidth? Steel or Ally deck? Budget? What is 'best' for one person may not be right for another.
  7. Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming. We have changed our mind 6 times now:lol:
  8. Nice one BJ. I was starting to think that myself, so I think thats the way we will go. I'll bet most folk go no further up than the Great Glen.
  9. How much does it cost to get on to Mull, Bob? Standard car size vehicle.
  10. I guess the best scenery is on the west too.
  11. We are thinking of taking a weeks touring holiday in Scotland later in the year. It will have to be mid october, is this too late to appreciate the beauty of Scotland? As its only a week we were thinking something along the lines of first stop in the lake district, then on to Oban, Fort William, Inverness, Elgin, then down through the cairngorms. Any thoughts on the best places to visit and the ones to avoid will be appreciated.

This is weird. Steve is apologising for Rich,s mistakes??? Are they actually both the same person?
  13. sorry, thats not the engine number. It will be stamped into the cowling. Model-Type-Code
  14. Cool, just post the engine number.
  15. Yup, onecoil sounds right come to think of it. Supplies a spark to both cyls at the same time as it is a horizontal engine ( lost spark principle) . This wont work on later V twins which must have 2 coils. Anyway, have you tried running without the kill wire. That will take all wiring faults out of the equation and leave just the coil. If it runs without the kill wire then the coil is Ok.
  16. Being a twin, there should be two coils. If one packs up it may just run on one cylinder, but not well. It does help with diagnosis though. Will need the full engine numbers, either on here or by PM to identify the coil.
  17. Beau, it should not backfire if you let it idle for a while after using, but then increase the revs to between 1/3 and 1/2 speed before turning the ignition key off. The electric fuel stop solenoid will cut off the fuel through the main jet if turned off in this fashion, but if turned off in the idle position it will continue to drag some fuel through the idle jet which is unaffected by the solenoid. Any such fuel is then reignited by any hot spots in the exhaust. These hot spots will become less active with age as the exhaust cokes up. Its not just a Briggs thing, the single cylinder Kohler is just the same.
  18. Whats going on? Service work is normally pretty quiet at this time of year, but these have all come in the past few days, not to mention many saws, brushcutters and hedgecutters. Not many pedestrian mowers though.
  19. Spend just a few more pounds and get the MS181. It runs a 1.3mm chain rather than the 1.1 and is generally a better saw.
  20. At least it is not upside down:biggrin:
  21. Just had a look at the IPL. The 024 used either a WT426 or a WT110 carb. The 026 used a WT426 as well as several others, so I would think they will all interchange, Give it a try, if it fits and all linkages, pipes etc are in the same place it will be OK.
  22. Both the Nova and Meco electronic units are easily available in the UK. the Nova retails at £16.21 plus vat and the Meco unit at £13.14 plus vat.
  23. Thats a bit too far.
  24. Of course we are Steve, the bond is still intact!
  25. Probably another stale petrol issue, very common in outboards. I had one similar which was due to the rubber tip of the float valve swelling up which lowered the level in the float chamber.
