I will take an increasing in length blue line as " great amount of heat " 👍 -
Subsidence is used a lot to be " alarmist " If what he says is true you are dammed if you do and dammed if you don't . It does depend very much on soil type but just looking at it I would say section it down , chip the brash , keep the very excellent fire wood .

Snow has mostly gone now , its about -1 at the mo but the wind is a complete bastard making it feel like -7 !

They do " fluff up " again quite readily I have found . Almost Willow like in that respect .

The drive sprocket on the power head will cope yes , especially if its a floating rim type . . Would need to change then if its very worn though .

No . because the nose sprocket on the bar would be wrong . Eg you could not run .325 on a bar that has a 3/8 nose sprocket . even if the gauge for both is 1.5 .
