    I have both . The screw type is way quicker but has its own engine which is not quite torquey enough so for gnarly tuff stuff I use the hydraulic . If the screw type had a bigger engine I would use it for everything . At the moment I use it on the easy splitting stuff .

    In soft wood the skip chain clears the chip more efficiently because there are less cutters. The "rectangular tunnel " created buy the kirf and the the area from the top of the cutter down to the top of the tie straps carries more chip so clears better . This helps to avoid clogging on relatively long bars . Having said that I would not put anything longer than 18" .325 on my 560 . I have other big saws for long bars . ( see thread "show us your saws " )

    Got say 560 again based on that . Mine pulls an 18" fine best balance is probably a 15" and it sure would fly on a 13" !

    Oh and don't think there is such a thing as an entry level pro saw . It's either a pro saw or its not, no matter what size the power head is and how long or short the bar is . Just my thinking .

    I felled a holly once About 2ft dia but been pollarded a lot so not very tall . I heard it was bad luck but pressed on anyway . On the back cut hit a Victorian nail that was about 2inches off center . That was bad luck for the chain .

    Your not too old for sure . ( Me 60 ) The thing is we can all do stuff but to pass you need to do it "their way " I have been driving since I was 14 (17 legally on road ) and back then I passed my test first time but I doubt I would pass one now . What I am saying is you must be prepared to " uin learn " some things and learn to do them the way the tickets want them don if only to pass . So you may need some "training " even if you are compitent if you see what I mean .
