  1. No you cant do that - this snippet is incorrect I'm afraid. If you look at "4.12 Journal abstract from a database" of the PDF link you supplied - it will explain the correct method for referencing abstracts only. Just a point about referencing. The college will have their preferred method and will tell you how to do it. There are roughly 60 known variants on Harvard referencing and they all have slightly different rules - but the key to it is just to be consistent. If you start using one set of rules - keep with them right through your document.
  2. Jimmy - a word from someone who has the T-shirt. They are not looking for top A grade academic research here. Part of the challenge you have been set is that as a 'novice academic' you have been asked to do something i.e. write an assignment, on a subject that you will be expected to cover in the course. The point is, they do not expect it to be perfect as you have not studied the subject at length yet - but you are to demonstrate that you can handle the task and produce something that looks like an essay, even if as it turns out, that it needs a lot of work. My advice in addition to the above, is to also include diagrams or models that relate to the words that you put in your assignment, and if you can, get out with a camera and take a few pictures that also supports your assignment and include them. This shows that you can take the info from the books, go outside and recognise what you have been reading about. Its not a matter of regurgitating the information, but reading several sources, making sense of it, and applying it in context in the form of a reasoned discussion. If you choose to use them, you don't have to reference your pictures e.g. (Jimmy, 2014) unless you have actually published them - which I guess you wont have. Also, on referencing, give Harvard a go as this will earn brownie points. Plenty of Harvard resources online. Best of luck.
  3. I'm at the top of the county and see a lot of kit moving about generally so will keep an eye out. Ill also mention it to some local grafters (who aren't on here!) to keep their peelers out.
  4. No leg/foot PPE, no use of chain brake, close to using tip of bar (near end of vid), clearly not physically strong enough to resist any force through kickback. I don't mind pushing the boundaries, even doing 'risky' things with my own children in a controlled manner, but that child with the chainsaw was in serious danger from life changing injury. Not good in any way.
  5. That made me laugh! Agree with the ID... There looks to be a bit of horizontal fibre buckling in the last picture too - but doesn't look to be in an area with targets (don't know what's behind the camera mind)
  6. When I did my PA's, part of the course was working out your exact costings based on flow rate, number of sprays, cost of chem, walking speed etc. Was all this not covered in your course? You need to calculate your exact cost per spray and then add on tax/profit/travel/insurance per job and that will tell you how much to charge.
  7. I have just noticed these posistions on the Forestry Commission website - available here Job vacancies There are several positions at various places around the county looking for junior/early career types to be trained up in the FC way. Follow the link for further information, and please dont PM me as I'm in no way connected to the FC! Deadline on them appears to be 17.08.14 - so act quickly.
  8. Just spoke to the wife about this news, and strangely it feels like we have lost someone we knew as we both grew up watching his films or comedy. He was a proper comic genius - Orson has called him home...
  9. I have one of these: Camping Hammock It is OK, but can get a bit warm if you sleep inside it. If I had thought about it a bit more, I would have got one of these with the integrated mozzi/rain covers DD Jungle Hammock Modular Hammock System I know you wanted something for 2, but presumably you could just put two side by side in a good location. Both relatively cheap compared to the other items you have been recommended.
  10. For my pickup, I have always found NFU insurance to offer the best deal. Usually with discounts and the annual dividend.
  11. All the info you need is on the website - that said, there is a dead link to the reading list... You may want to contact them to let them know.
  12. Dont be shy, chop the top green out and the Brilliantissimum will flourish again. Dont forget the roots have grown as big as the over story so will be able to compensate very quickly.
  13. I spend a fair amount of time in my area 'competing' with other chaps who are apparently qualified, but when it comes to it seem less then capable of doing the job. Yes, it peeves me off seeing the BS standard of work they produce, but the simple fact is, I get my work done and when there is a standoff in consultancy terms, 9 times out of 10, I get my way because the other companies are just spouting the usual rather than taking into account individual circumstances. Ultimately, someone else doing a bad job in your area actually promotes you as being the guy to work with.
  14. Im pretty much with Stephens description above. Its a no sweat job to get it on the ground but then a bit of a tidy up. I recon the OP is trying to suss how much he should pay for someone doing the work based on the difficulty of the job...
  15. No PMs as yet! seriously though, if I can help I will. I'm pretty savvy with things like this, so if anyone needs help then just ask. If I cant do it then I will tell you, but theres no harm in asking...
  16. Id be interested to hear where they checked their information. A little search turned up this: Arboriculturist: Salary and conditions | Prospects.ac.uk IMO I would say you are underpaid.
  17. I know this is sorted so this is for reference more than anything, there is an easy way in MS. Assuming your horizontal list starts in Word: copy all > move it to Excel > Paste Special > Transpose (it will now be vertical column) > Copy > move to Word > Paste... Done. No need for fancy/add-in software!
  18. Yep, that's right. The muscle breakdown is called Rhabdomyolysis which can occur as a result of being trapped/crushed for a period. A consequence of Rhabdomyolysis occurring is that it can lead to Kidney failure and death on its own. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is where a coagulation occurs (blood clot) that the body cannot re-absorb straight away for a variety of reasons. The DVT though can be mobile and the clot can move through the bloodstream to the heart, lungs or brain, block an artery/vein and then you will get all the associated problems from that eg in the brain - symptoms of a stroke, in the lungs - respiratory arrest, and in the heart - just like a heart attack and potentially death. What Detritus describes is a form of Compartment Syndrome, which is what I am referring to, but there are several types of this eg Acute, Sub-acute, Chronic etc all with different causes, symptoms and pathology. In short, get that emergency Doctor in site as well if there is a proper crush/trapped injury! (Yes, I do read my wife's medical books and training course materials!)
  19. Yes you are referring to Suspension Trauma which is considered to be theoretically possible but there has never been a reported case of it actually occurring. There is a HSE page and report all about it: RR708: First aid measures for suspension trauma
  20. Just reading between the lines - it still could have been the tree that killed him, or someone helping him get free when they found him. When you are trapped for a period/during trauma, from after as little as 10 minutes, your body can build up toxins in the affected area. If these are released e.g. through moving the tree off the guy, then the toxins travel through the bloodstream on release and can cause a massive and rapid heart attack. My paramedic wife (and source of this information) says that if any part of you is trapped for that long i.e. 10 minutes+, and you need medical aid, then someone needs to insist that an emergency Doctor is present when you are released as the paramedic crews are not licensed to carry the necessary life saving drugs you will need to be administered potentially immediately. Either way, I hope that info is of use to someone at the appropriate time. Grim news for the other two chaps mentioned in the thread.
  21. Is your avatar how you deal with feeling like poop?
  22. Why do we have global warming again? Ah - so weekend warriors can burn oil and pollute the atmosphere! Its all a bit unnecessary in my opinion.
  23. I went to school in Knutsford, and when I left, I recall a summer of love in Tatton park at the swimming area on the mere. Beautiful trees, beautiful girls, beautiful place. What more could a 16 year old boy want? A different view on the demographics - it must just be a special place...
