  1. Yes andrew, I was trying to be funny...............Ill get my coat
  2. It will need a new cranksaft, I know of five other ms 261 that had endless needle bearing and clutch issues, they all ended up having new crank shafts to sort the problem, i dont know whether it must be a faulty batch or not. good luck.
  3. Is this not a burr - caused by stress?
  4. Out of six saws I know five have had to go back and be rebuilt with new crank shafts because of faulty manufacture. That aside they are a decent saw, buy new, save receipt.
  5. Hi Spud, Whats this screwdriver method? I have stripped the engine down on a set of trimmers (hs 60) and got one crank seal out but cant do the other side because i havnt managed to get the fly wheel off. I thought it screwed off but then looked at an exploded diagram and saw it had a woodruff key in there- so i am thinking i need a puller of some kind? i have some stihl removal tools but there is no thread in the fly wheel to use them, is there another way? and will i need a new woodruff key? I havent done this before as you can probably tell thanks in advance matt
  6. Well done Glenn, It is such a relief when you pass. I havent started anything else yet, it takes over your life once you start. All worth while now tho.
  7. Yes i know parts are hard to come by, but im not counting on getting it going because i need to use it, its just a little learning and tinkering really. and ive spent a bit of time on it already so cant let it beat me. As for yours- there's plenty of stuff you could fix the tank with and im sure ive seen filter coves for sale on ebay - if not give it me for parts good luck

  12. A relation of mine who lives up in Cumbria has asked me if I can get him some planks to put on a porch roof. He has moved into a house which already has a porch with a wooden planked roof and he is building another at the opposite end that needs to match up. I am wondering if there is some of you around that area that could help? The planks need to be 1.3 metres long and be enough to cover 3-4 metres in width with an overlapp and be about three quarters of an inch thick with a bark edge. If thats understandable? Im not sure which kind of wood, would be best suited so any suggestions welcome. You can reply or PM me if you think you can help? Regards Matt
  13. Unfortunatley I have realised this, but thanks for going to the trouble of looking, and if you come across one you know who to contact. cheers matt
  14. Yes I was thinking the same, but dont know how good it wil be so I wouldnt mind trying to get some parts if poss. Now the dark nights are drawing in I will spend some time on trying to get it working again
  15. I have still not managed to find any spares for these trimmers? Any body got one they dont want or just any parts? I need the carb adapter mainly but would have anything you have if the price is right. If any body sees one for sale let me know. (HS60) cheers

  17. My wife is pregnant at the moment, while I wouldn't encourage her to climb any trees, I have found that I am climbing alot more. Hormones are strange things i have heard of women going running and being very active while pregnant but I think you should leave the tree climbing for now. look after yourself. matt
  18. Poor lad, no one deserves to lose their life trying to earn a few quid. Sobering thought just how dangerous treework can be and what can happen in a split second.
  19. bloody hell thats hard to understand, even if you know what youre talkin about..
  20. The terms rich and lean refer to the mixture of fuel and air running through the carburettor. When a saw is running LEAN there is too much AIR and not enough fuel, which leads to serious engine damage. When a saw is running RICH there is too much FUEL and not enough air, which also causes damage to the engine over time and running problems. Lots of explanations on the tinternet. Enjoy
