  1. Please can a mod remove my racist remark. Ive upset someone
  2. I rarely do much work with pines of any significant size, but when I do the weight of the branches always surprises me, easy to underestimate.
  3. Is that your poor attempt at calling me a racist? If I did have the union jack in my garden would that be a problem? I take people as i find them and have a racially diverse range of friends which i equally make fun of, as they do with me.
  4. I bet it made him squint.
  5. couldn't of said it better myself.
  6. In the past I have guy'd trees by knocking in a series of fencing posts at an angle away from the tree- on the side it fell away from and using old rope to tie the guys from low down on the stakes to a good solid point in the crown of the tree. Always worked effectively and costs very little. Make sure you tie to a good point high on the tree with a bowline as not to cause any damage, strangulation to the tree and you may want to use extra padding to make sure. Read bs3998.
  7. I think the problem was because he didn't cut through the hinge fast enough, causing the stem the bend over with the weight of the top part, so when it did eventually break it sprang back with revenge. ouch
  8. That was a fair old dig in the ribs alright.
  9. Its also a Rowan. Probably deposited there by a bird poop.
  10. I wouldn't be swayed by the second having more pronounced serration of the leaves, they are typically like that when young.
  11. Sorbus aucuparia. Both of them I would say.
  12. I totally agree with that David
  13. Looks like Paulowinia? but doesnt that have the hollow pith?
  14. No problem with me, I already have the books- two of them anyway! Kind offer Jon. Bloody Indian giver.
  15. Pass us the sun cream love.
  16. For a bit of fun.
  17. Me too. I appreciate wildlife a lot more these days. I don't think what you have done is being particularly soft. Just shows you have a bit of heart. you soft sod
  18. Just remember pollarding is labour intensive and will require repeated instances of work to keep it structurally sound.
  19. Good effort.
  20. I'd go with this suggestion if I were you.
  21. Another tip is to buy stihl piston rings, some others (after market) can be a bit crap although I have never had any trouble with tesgol's stuff
  22. They do the job. A lot don't.
  23. Do you use the 10mm prusik rope with 11m climbing rope or do you have to go to a smaller diameter? There is an 11m rope at work which I was going to try with the zigzag but I think 11.5mm is the smallest you can go with the zz so thought id give it a try with a prusik.
  24. It depends on what method of pruning work. The effects vary a great deal between Crown reduction, thinning, pollarding and also the vitality of the tree will have a great part to play.
