  1. The first hot day of summer last year we had a middle aged woman watching us from next doors conservatory. After a while she got up, dusted her seat off with her hand, then came outside and lit up a cigarette!
  2. Pantin, hand ascender, hitch hiker. £200 right there. And I'm a starving employed climber with an alcohol and nicotine habit to maintain!
  3. That, or the fact that to some people climbing is just a job. Not a passion. Those with a passion for climbing seek the most efficient and fun way or getting themselves around the canopy. For some others a Prussik is a tool. It works, so they don't see the need to change. Me, I enjoy DDRT, and whilst I'd like to try SRTWP I can't afford the shinies.
  4. Fun video as always Reg, thanks for posting. Nice to see a tree that takes you more than a day! What was the rig you were trying when the camera took a dive?
  5. Swap the visor for a pair of safety glasses. I hate visors. They get in the way, get trashed, and still let sawdust through. I use the Stein yellow glasses. Tough, cheap (around £8), and the world just seems to be happier through a yellow filter. Get a couple of pairs, you will lose them!
  6. I'll never forget the time we spent 15 minutes shovelling the numerous dog turds into a gargantuan pile in front if the clients shed door, to clear our way (it must have been a foot high) only for the dopey apprentice lad to put his brand new Stihl boot right through the top of said pile. Up to his ankle, and none of us wanted to share the drive back to the yard with him!
  7. I'm gonna have to be the one with the balls to say it. Here goes... It is NOT hornbeam!
  8. As said, thin cord binds easier. What dia is your climbing line? What dia friction cord do you use? A klemheist knot is a great alternative if you use a Prussik. Releases much easier.
  9. There is no law anywhere stating this. Design C is strongly recommended by HSE. If you can justify in your risk assessment that Type As are appropriate you shouldn't have a problem.
  10. If you want to appeal to the majority on here, might I suggest hardcore gangsta rap?
  11. But "safe rigging" is so 2013! I hear you though, but I suppose with the GRCS the temptation is always there to take meaty bits
  12. Nowt wrong with that, music aside Lowering was decent. If you did your step cuts the other way around (top cut first, then bottom) it would prevent logs snapping prematurely and almost floating downstream
  13. A button so the when your other half walks in you can press it and it swaps to a search for valentines presents? I think this is more a computer feature than sonar talk feature
  14. Haha difficult not to capture colleagues and properties if your filming from above! Unless people want to watch a nice vid of the weather to the tune of chainsaws! If I edit out the blue talk and cock ups then I see no reason why my employer would object to me sharing a seemingly well executed and professional job
  15. That's fair enough it's not really a big issue for me. I just don't want to be unable to contribute videos of my (albeit comparatively mediocre) work because of ownership disputes. Tbh as long as I don't take the mick with my boss I think he'd be alright.
  16. Hi Mr B, I think a more dedicated vid thread is a great idea. From my perspective though, I'd be happier if it was a members only thing. I work for a company. Whilst my boss is happy for me to video work (he gets a copy of anything I film for advertising) I'm not sure how comfortable he'd be with his company's work being published openly, without me having to check with him for each clip. Would this be possible? No big deal if it's impractical. Also a request section on the video thread could be handy, I.e. Somebody requests: "how do I back up my lanyard whilst spiking a stem?" And another person agrees to film a clip next time they're doing it. Or am I clutching at straws?
  17. Easy now fella, what're you hoping to achieve? Bit early to be drunk isn't it?
  18. You certain its melting and not just solidified crap and oil? Get a screwdriver and scrape it out!
  19. Thanks for reminding my Max, the odd naked bloke in some of the ads too. Gotta have something for everyone...
  20. The way your prussik was set up. Looked weird, and unnatural. I thought you'd done it all wrong until I realised you were one of satans minions
  21. I used to use an unrelated forum with a "rep point" system. It became elitist, petty, and people in various cliques would +1 each other for agreeing with each other, and neg rep people with contradicting opinions to their own. I think it would be a terrible idea for Arbtalk. Oh, I'd like all advertisers to have mandatory nudity in their logos.
  22. Maybe it's that kind of emotional bullying that's forcing him to flee to the other side of the world. Or maybe it's the big sweaty men.
  23. It was a quick substitution. The original word woulda got filtered
