Yes and no, his work is incredibly niche. Not comparable to our kind of work. Plus he's living his best life out there so to hell with that guy.

I'm looking into buying my brother in law a saw. He's getting a log burner put in and i can keep him in firewood but i don't have the time to process it for him. Looking for something equivalent to the MS181, They're damn near £300 these days so are there any other options worth considering? Was hoping to pay around the £200 mark.

Price over the lifespan of a harness shouldn't really be a factor if you're using it regularly.

Yeah i beleive so. Nothing to stop you shortening the rope bridge with a barrel knot and trimming the excess. The adjustable bridge isn't really a feature i get hard for either, but there are some other well thought out features that look pretty cool. The mounting system for a FA kit and the knee ascender system look cool.

Except the new treemotions won't have any DMM metalwork, so you'll be getting Chinese ally. I've seen a few reports of people having issues with this stuff already

Yeah they're simple enough to install yourself. With the Senas the wires to the the earphones are a serious weak point and never last long. The guy I use (retired British Aerospace engineer) upgrades the wires to some armored ones which are way more suitable. Here is the one i keep in the van for plant operators etc.

I get Senas professionally installed by a local guy. Normally get at least 3 years out of them which is about the lifespan of a lid anyway. I keep a spare sena headset (not on a helmet) in my van for crane work. I wouldn't dream of doing some jobs without comms these days. Especially crane work where often the driver can't see you at all.

I read someone on FB who was running 42" on his 500i and it pulled it fine. Think he was American though so probably thick as f*ck.

I used to be of that persuasion. The Jeremy Clarkson "POWER!" motto. These days after a good few years i prefer the lightest saw to be length within reason. Keep your chains razor sharp and make a few cuts as possible. Port work helps a good deal too.

I work for one bloke who uses every opportunity for a burn. Get the brash going and stack the timber on top with the skid. Can't beat it. Saves him bringing the 12" bandit and grain trailer into the back garden.

If they made a 7l V8 tipper you'd buy it though.

I just find what works for me. A well maintained and sharp saw will do the same work as a heavier, more powerful saw with a badly sharpened chain though. Different bar and chain combos make a difference too. I generally only run 3 saws day to day. From pruning to large dismantles.
