  1. oh, and here's my neck tether. TM elastic and tubing, inside Boa sheath.
  2. I'm still learning, but it took me a couple of times descending and ending up with my heels up my arse before I started remembering! Start out with a pantin and the wrench, don't bother with a hand ascender. I can only echo Matty, I spent many hours at home splicing and at work trying to get my homemade haas to perform well. Spent a bit on the components too (though most were kindly donated). It's okay now, but I'll still buy one cos it'll be better. They've just bought out a posh new one too. Bear in mind that ascending SRT relies completely on ascenders. They're not just an aid, but a necessity. But the right one.
  3. Steady on mate. I hear the same from a lot of business owners. They work 14 hour days, seven day weeks, and earn less than the lowest brash dragger for their troubles. Why? To provide jumped up climbers like me with a secure job, regardless of their own personal sacrifice. Instead of your cynicism maybe you could recognise business owners for the charitable martyrs they are?
  4. Yeah sure, that's why you do it!
  5. Fair. I suppose there's the added risk to insurance etc (I.e. You crash or get caught speeding on work time it affects your personal premium). It never crossed my mind when I started driving for the firm I'm at. Just happy enough to be able to make us more efficient. Then again I suppose indirectly my money went up because of that. Plus nobody wants a team leader who can't drive the vans!
  6. Sod paying him extra, tell him he'll drive of you'll find somebody else who will! Should you pay people extra because they drive the work vans?
  7. That's a big shot and SRT jobbie. Is it your tree? Where are you based? I'd definitely cut the ivy on that one.
  8. That's not what he was asking though, was it?
  9. The TechLite bar on ours lasted about a year. It gradually got softer and softer though until just knocking it into a branch would bend it! It's now wearing an oregon pro lite. No complaints. Got a pro lite on my 441 and ported 357 and it's fine. My 550 has a Sugi and it definitely wears less than the rest. Tried to dress the bar rails after a fair bit of use and not only did it not need doing, the file didn't wanna touch the steel, just skipped across!
  10. How is that an improvement?
  11. And very expensive. I've no problem spending on decent kit, but I like the HC because it's so adjustable. That and it doesn't break, for a fifth of the price of the zz
  12. You do if you are threading a rope through the eyes, to prevent it pinching. On a crab it's fine. Just get a hitchclimber mate.
  13. You don't need the spacer for the pinto when it's on a crab.
  14. Second that.
  15. On the flip side, Sean, the client ought to have gone for a reputable company. Crap workers like that make the decent ones look better
  16. Too late mate, someone's already widened her ports to the limit!
  17. What if you rub mud into the spike marks afterwards? I don't always do it, but if I'm in a CA it's standard. Don't want anyone thinking I'm a rogue.
  18. Fair enough, I don't know how it all works. Frankly it seems that it should be Husqvarnas problem. Get it back to them to sort it. Provided your client hasn't abused his saw then they have supplied a defective product. The buyer shouldn't be out of pocket, neither should you! This is all from the viewpoint of an end user. I'd expect a replacement, but I'd expect Husqvarna to foot the bill, not my dealer!
  19. If he'd already stripped the saw he's voided the warranty. Then again, if it's an option I'd personally replace the saw while the one in question got sent back to Husky. Could you reclaim costs from them if the saw is defective?
  20. Aah I see. Makes perfect sense...
  21. Deadwooded 3 Wellingtonia today. Windy as hell but good fun. SRT is really starting to make sense.
  22. You're a good man, Andy. I shall await the video.
  23. That quick and you can't afford a £100 for a camera?
  24. Fair play to you! If you get a chance film some of your work. Always good to see the great climbers in action!
  25. I'd be thinking £800 to £1200 without the price of TM, for a 1.5-2.5m reduction Maybe I'm just slow mind.
