  1. nope, its the 25lt petzl bucket bag, think they are only about £25 - £30 from gustharts, they are awesome, simple but really bomb proof, best value for money rope bag you can get in my opinion. ArborTricks: Gear storage - Petzl bucket bag
  2. Being a massive gear freak and OCD about kit, I had to come up with a decent way of storing/transporting my new rc3001. Here's what i came up with... ArborTricks: Stein RC3001 - storage solution
  3. some more pics: ArborTricks: Mini MA system: more pics
  4. I've played around with a few ideas using stuff I already had and a large slick pin rope grab, few pics and explanation on my blog: ArborTricks: Mini mechanical advantage system Works alright, good to have in the bag when you do need to lift something, not really efficient enough to use all the time though
  5. Having used The RC3001 for about 18months with a firm I do a lot for I have now brought one myself, absolutely bomb proof. Simple effective and reliable. plus the rated attachment point at the top gives you a few more options in terms of incorporating mechanical advantage
  6. Needed for ongoing works, mostly river clearance/coppicing with some forestry. Tractor and loader experience a must. Day rate and prompt payment. Pm for details. North Herefordshire/south Shropshire border.
  7. A vote for britool here, got a few sets, decent cases and solid ratchets
  8. Heading out to California later on in the year for a 3 week holiday and was hoping to climb some giants, anyone on here done the same? Don't want to be taking all my gear and want it to be legit so was hoping to hire a guide or something. So far Google is coming up short. Found a few similar companies in Oregon, but we're not heading that far north. May post a similar request over on treebuzz but thought I'd try here first. Also, anyone that has been over that way have any recommendations? Cheers all.
  9. Think this Chisel role is from Axminster tools, had it about 7 years or so.
  10. Saw it off flush(ish) with the ally, then drill a course thread screw straight into the cut surface, when it hits the bottom of the wedge it should just pop out, has always worked for me anyway
  11. I use Yale lime light 11.7mm and climb both double and srt, works well with a pantin and other accenders, it is a little bouncy srt but nothing too excessive but then again it's the only rope I've climbed srt on so don't have much to compare it too. (Had Samson arbormaster before, too fat for a rw)
  12. Note^ obviously the ropes wouldn't work with chip but a metal sheet or canvas from a lorry side may well do?
  13. We used to do this with trailers full of brash back in the day, only used to used ropes lay down In The bed before we loaded it up with brash, then would tie it onto a tree and drive off slowly dragging the brash off. May well work with chip but never tried it. Unless you desperately need a 4x4 just buy a cheep transit tipper, will serve you well and make life much easier. I messed around with the wrong vehicle for years untill I decided to bite the bullet and get a tipper.
  14. I use a 10mm dmm sling as a chest harness with a small wild country snap gate, this clips into the middle hole on my hitch climber, Seems to tend it pretty well and doesn't bother me too much, even if wearing it all day
  15. Here's my solution to the potential problem of the week strop More pics/explanation here: http://arbortricks.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/stihl-ms150t-mod.html?m=1
  16. Was a bit worse today, that roads always pretty busy, go as early as you can, try and hit it before half 7/ 8 if you can
  17. Best option I found was with a petzl grilion replacement rope, stitched both ends and works well with a hitch http://arbortricks.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/lanyard-setupwork-positioning-strop.html?m=1
  18. That's one of the worst I've seen, especially as the sound quality was pretty good, you could tell that hurt a lot, numerous things went wrong then, definitely stopped cutting way too soon among others...
  19. Yep me too, didn't read that properly! although most of the time if you using a big saw then surely you'll have just finished with the top handle and therefore have to send that down before having the bigger saw sent up? unless going back up the tree after a break in which case you'd usually get the saw sent up rather than drag it up with you...
  20. I nearly always start climbing with the top handle attached to my harness, there's usually quite a few bits you can knock out on the way up to set your top anchor, especially on dismantles, that way up can keep the guys on the ground busy rather than have them standing there watching you climb.
  21. Yeah was thinking of cutting up an old dry bag to make a cover for it, stop it getting covered in muck as well. Welding is one of things I put off learning for years and then one day decided it was time to have a go. Absolutely love it, opens up so many opportunities to make different things. Luckily my dads a farmer/ag engineer/machinery sales so has all the gear you'd ever need.
  22. Yep that counts! My bumper isn't quite beefy enough for that!
  23. I was going to mount it on the tipper body but this was slightly easier and I quite like being over the saw when I sharpen so the height is not an issue. The bracket it's attached to is pretty bomber and I will prob add a brace at some point
